maybe all the sexy lady baseball footage they found was from A League Of Their Own and it was too pricey to buy the rights

i'd never really listened to Thunderstruck on headphones before
so anyway, the last time, when they go back to the whoa-ah-oh-ah-ohoh-ah-oh part, there are THREE drum machine hits on the fill before they kick the guitar in for the final "Yoooo beeen THUNDERSTRUCK"...it's so clearly a drum machine, really weird
― punk rocketeer (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 14 November 2014 02:39 (eleven years ago)
i always noticed that those hits had a really heavy echo on them that made them stick out but i just kind of assumed it was for dramatic effect, didn't consider whether it was punched in on a drum machine. AC/DC drums are so typically devoid of flashy flourishes that it would be kind of appropriate if one of their most memorable drum fills was added by a producer with a drum machine while mixing down.

That was one of the non-Rudd albums. And the production (Bruce Fairbairn) is probably the most heavy-handed of any AC/DC album. Tons of weird shit going on in the margins.

AC/DC has indeed resolved to move forward; it's planning to tour next year. Whether Rudd will join his bandmates remains in question."Phil created his own situation," says Young. "It's a hard thing to say about the guy. He's a great drummer, and he's done a lot of stuff for us. But he seems to have let himself go. He's not the Phil we've known from the past."

Meanwhile, Phil, whoring it up on booze and drugs, probably looks at his erstwhile bandmates and thinks, man, they are not the AC/DC I've known in the past.
Seriously, though, those pictures o Phil - where are the glasses? What happened to the long hair?!

Yeah noticed the obviously pro backup summers (clearly not anyone in ac/DC) on moneytalks

Backup SINGERS
Something is so ... off about this roll-out. Months of no news. Then rumors of Malcolm. Then, blam, Malcolm out of action, but oh, btw, we're working on a new album. Then, presto, new album is done, but Phil is suddenly out of commission. It's like they're desperate to get this thing out and tour before something else goes wrong.

Jumping the Gun would be a good name for an AC/DC album.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 November 2014 23:28 (eleven years ago)
Title track would be about sex.
― EZ Snappin, Monday, 24 November 2014 23:33 (eleven years ago)
I'll be buying this next week. Only a couple of skippers on the whole record.

Stern interview with Brian and Angus is worth a listen
― Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 25 November 2014 04:26 (eleven years ago)
I want a Stern interview where he and his yammering are edited out and replaced by someone else.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 November 2014 14:40 (eleven years ago)
Stern is a good interviewer, but not perfect. Sometimes he interrupts the interviewee and totally changes the subject. Im sitting there going "Howard, i wanted to hear his/her answer to the fucking question."
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 25 November 2014 15:34 (eleven years ago)
I absolutely love this album, by the way. Good tunes, it sticks to the band's strengths, and at 35 minutes knows when to say when.

hmmm
would you guys consider "play ball" one of the better songs on the album? cuz i thought it was p boring

Speaking to ONE News for the first time since his arrest, the veteran musician says the charges against him are "ludicrous"."This has just been a big ball of cheese and all the rats are gathering and having a piece, that's just life, but that's not who I am." Rudd says he's not one to let court charges get in the way. His plans for the day?"I'm going fishing, flying this afternoon and lots of fornicating tonight.""I'm going back to work with AC/DC, I don't care who likes it or who doesn't."Everyone listens to the wrong people, they should listen to me, I'm a good guy, and I'm a pretty good drummer by the way - ask Angus he'll tell you."

"ask Angus he'll tell you" would make a great bootleg title, as would "Fishing...Flying...and Fornicating Tonight"

No Rudd on the Grammys last night; drummer was Chris Slade. No swing, just plod (but Slade is apparently ambidextrous, which is kind of interesting).
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 9 February 2015 13:26 (eleven years ago)
I saw a story somewhere on FB that Slade is probably in for the tour as well, because Rudd has to stay in New Zealand for his trial, which has been pushed back to sometime in the spring (or I guess the fall down there).

Slade def doing the tour. No Malcolm, no. Phil, no deal. IMO.

I mean, jeez, Wrigley show here is in September, and no Phil for that?
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 14 February 2015 22:18 (eleven years ago)
lol at the idea that having not stopped for the mental unavailability of one of their two founding members, that they'd subsequently sit around for two or three years after album release to see if the drummer who won't talk to them clears his meth-fuelled criminal charges and decides to tour
― oochie wally (clean version) (sic), Sunday, 15 February 2015 04:43 (eleven years ago)

― contenderizer, Sunday, 15 February 2015 08:14 (eleven years ago)
Thing is, Phil's playing is actually probably the reason I would go, even sans Malcolm. No Phil, no dice, not for $100.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/70031619/former-acdc-drummer-phil-rudd-sentenced-to-home-detention
As the judge dressed Phil Rudd down, perhaps the most stinging rebuke was that the former AC/DC drummer's playing wasn't anything special.
Judge Ingram said there was no evidence he had an offer from the band and he was not convinced that Rudd's drumming was integral to the AC/DC sound.
"Queen replaced Freddie Mercury," he said.

I could totally imagine some hip band sounding like this.
Oh also Phil Rudd got arrested again. For some reason I always thought of that dude as their respectable anchor. Maybe it was all just the glasses. Why did he take that long hiatus the first time?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 03:34 (ten years ago)
I depped in an DC covers band last year for a couple of months and had to learn 24 songs in short order, 20 of which were in A and at least 5 started exactly the same, the hardest part by miles ( let's face it, the basslines weren't very taxing) was remembering what the hell song you were playing.
― MaresNest, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 08:53 (ten years ago)

...because he was fired for being an unreasonable, drunken, violent dickhole?

― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 22 July 2015 13:41 (ten years ago)
Takes a lot to be fired from AC/DC for that! Like Adler getting canned from gnr.
If yr drummer is too smacked out to keep a beat, it makes sense to not employ them
(nb GnR have been 100% terrible since firing Adler)
Never heard of any other members of the Dacca assaulting Malcolm, but tbh I was too young to be aware of any gossip back then
