What's your favorite book?Ah. I don't read books. I read On the Road in high school, and that was awesome, so I guess that's my favorite book. To Kill a Mockingbird, even though I didn't read it, that's the greatest story. SparkNotes came in when I was in high school, and that was the greatest invention. Reading is too soothing for me: No matter what time of day, if I'm reading a book, I'm going to fall asleep. I wish I read books because they help with talking. I want to say something in a cool way, and I can't think that fast, especially in interviews. And if I get nervous, I stutter. If I read this and it sounds stupid, I'm going to be pissed (laughs).

Tell me about a mistake you made.Growing up, I didn't get the talk of "Make sure boys take you on a date and treat you right." So I was the girl who wasn't dating and would just text. I dated these guys who didn't have jobs and I would always be paying. At one point, I remember looking in the mirror and thinking, "You're too pretty and cool to be treated like this." That was when I changed: "You wanna talk to me? Okay, I need food and a movie." So when I started writing an album for the world to hear, that was one of the main concepts I wanted to get down.

holy fucking shit she can't be serious
like, of course some pop stars aren't that smart/don't read/whatever, that's not a huge deal to me, but like, she's really just being honest about being completely basic and poorly read. i mean do we applaud that she's this forthcoming about her basicness/caucacity/intellectual stuntedness?

I hesitate because I like this band and like everybody involved, and it's an old song so it's juvenilia made by an already super-young band, but this song plunges to such incredible depths that it has my respect more than my hatred

I had never heard of this guy but he seems to be popular? he has about a million song parody videos all of which seem to be based on him dressing as a woman and crossing his eyes, Brian Conley as Septic Peg style

Everytime I think "Music's in a really good place now. Technology has allowed anyone who wants to make music to make it, and then get it out to people who might want to hear it. So cool!" something like this comes along and I immediately think "Well, it was a nice run."

wow, that's really really really offensively terrible, like, on every level- the talk about the OC and the general wanna-be vibe makes me wonder if it's some rich kids from Orange County trying to buy a pop career- like was it shot at some horseriding enclosure where Mom practices showjumping or something?
sounds like they had to heavily filter and mix those vocals so low because there's no there there on any level, and when even the hook is stolen and the trap beats are wack and phoned in, it's like, ugh
calling this "music" is like, I dunno, dumping MSG in rubber cement and calling that "cooking"

Part of me really wants it to be deliberate, like they were purposefully going for alienation, instructing the girls in the video to look as bored and depressed as possible, etc. But I bet they're just idiots who think they've made something awesome.
― Humorist (horse) (誤訳侮辱), Wednesday, 19 November 2014 17:38 (nine years ago) link
The video, filmed in a strip clup, "portrays a plasticized version of Hollywood sleaze," and features "additional direction from Prettypuke and Dan Gotti." Gabe from Uzi describes the duo's mission in simple terms: "All the weird kids are taking over."
― soref, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 18:02 (nine years ago) link

yeah this reads as too earnest and too satisfied with itself to be some sort of deliberate critique.

xpost but that "all the weird kids are taking over" line just depresses me more
thinking that you can have it both ways by pretending to critique the misogyny you reinforce = not weird, garden variety hyprocrisy
thinking you can just appropriate anything (in this case, trap) because it's "plastic" and that therefore your shitty version of something gets to be "commentary" about it = not weird, standard operating procedure
treating women like dehumanized props in a fantasy about male power = not weird, numbingly familiar
it's not an interesting Andy Warhol-esque deadpan strategy to be a moron, it's just called being a moron
― the tune was space, Thursday, 20 November 2014 18:22 (nine years ago) link
I mean I know that this thread is for shit that sucks, but man the idea that the people behind that song think that they are in some way "weird" or "different" is just enraging to me in a special way that goes beyond just noticing that their song is bad, like I feel some kind of ethical nausea/vertigo when I imagine how they justify what they're doing to themselves
time to go pet a kitten or something
