slowdive: classic or dud?

Does anybody in Seattle have a spare ticket for tonight?

Seattle would be a great place to see Slowdive. I lived in Olympia in the early 90s and I think bands like Slowdive encapsulate that time and place better than any of the grunge bands.

I always loved Souvlaki, but didn't care for Pygmalion and thought Just For A Day was crap. I just discovered the Blue Day EP, though. Amazing! I think it's easily on par with Souvlaki. What a great EP!

I've been listening to Blue Day today.
"Morningrise" is my current favorite Slowdive track.

(You might already know this but...) 'Blue Day' is a collection of tracks off their first three EPs (Slowdive, Morningrise and Holding Our Breath). I don't know when it was released, but obviously after the actual EPs in 1990/91. I got it free with Souvlaki.

Annoyingly, 'Catch The Breeze' isn't on it (for starters). Annoying for me, because although I bought 'Slowdive' on vinyl when it came out, I taped the next two EPs off a friend, and the tape got distorted on that track, so I was initially pleased to discover that the Souvlaki bonus disc gave me those taped tracks on CD, but then frustrated to find one of my favourites had been mysteriously left off.

Real deal in SF tonight. It felt very genuine and all the smiles coming from the band was endearing.

Yeah, I really liked it. Pretty well done. I wish they would have explained the album's title though.

The 'Space Station' part is a reference to a much-lovedstudio effect unit.

As for the first part, Slowdive were Jerky Boys fans.

It is! I liked it halfway after the first listen but the second pulls it all together, even the Mark Kozelek guest appearance. There's also a fantastic duet with the guy from Twilight Sad, whose vibe is similar.

Really love "Breaking My Light" - brings to mind Blonde Redhead and Delgados respectively.

it's easily better than the first album.

If I overstate, it's not by much. I'm defining 'comeback' as a new release after 10+ years. I was not one of those impressed with the MBV comeback. The new Psychedelic Furs is very good but not even close to Slowdive. I guess Scott Walker's "Tilt" qualifies, that's a strong choice. What else would you consider contending for the title?
