Ha ha Do you guys want to rock tonight or hang out in the bowling alley parking lot?
Rocking sounds cool, I guess

Sounds pretty passive aggressive.
"But yesterday you said you didn't want to rock!"
"Look, really, it's fine; I don't mind rockin' tonight."

Joe Walsh There Goes the Neighborhood is almost the ideal of this genre of album titling
― There Goes Ryan's Scion (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:03 (nine years ago) link
Joe was the master. He rode that schtick into the late 80s:http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61QVSFXDBDL.jpg
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:07 (nine years ago) link
Walsh also embodies the "Hey here's my album, whaddya want from me?" rueful shrug and grin that is implied by all these titles, his whole persona is sort of based on this aethestic
― There Goes Ryan's Scion (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:09 (nine years ago) link
haha Tarfumes you posted that same cover last summer!
still cracks me up though, what a joker that joe is!

Okay, who remembers seeing this stuff in the record stores and feeling sorry for these people. When those covers are 12" x 12" and sitting in the bins while Bee Gees albums cover the walls, you just feel sad and angry and go, "what's up with that?"
― Threat Assessment Division (I M Losted), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:54 (nine years ago) link
As a kid I would have wanted those Joe Walsh albums, but paper routes don't pay enough.
― Threat Assessment Division (I M Losted), Sunday, 2 November 2014 19:56 (nine years ago) link
The thing with Joe Walsh was, when he didn't make his album covers into stupid jokes, you got sub-Uriah Heep stuff like this:

that BLT album seems from the lineup like it could be really good..... anyone heard it?
Bunk Dogger cover really is superb

"Who Are Thoes Guys?" is perfect, though if it had quotation marks or a pointless bit of emphasis (a la Commander Cody) it'd pretty much have the genre locked up.

Atomic Rooster's drummer was Ric Parnell, aka Spinal Tap's Mick Shrimpton. Based on that cover, he presumably also worked as a consultant on the film.

hahaha:
"The first question they asked was, 'What do you think about a movie that's going to tear your career apart?' I said, 'You should have made this movie about 10 years ago.' They then asked me what other bands I'd been in, and I said, 'Well, I was in a band called Atomic Rooster.' They looked at each other and said, 'Yep, that's it, you're our man.' "

the go-to Atomic Rooster is Death Walks Behind You
they are some of the ppl from Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Vincent Crane the leader was a real character to say the least

The late Vincent Crane, Kevin Rowland was smart (or crazy) enough to hire him to play with Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Atomic Rooster are actually pretty good - they went through a number of stylistic shifts over the years as members came and went. There was a good 2CD set called Heavy Soul that gathered pretty much all anybody would ever need.
