He did an article in support of her when she did that whole deal about using volunteer musicians. His conclusion: innovative ways to maximise profit are artistically creative and you're all just jealous.

I just feel like there are a lot of things that ilx will give other artists and public figures a pass on or at least be "ambivalent" about, but will totally go to town lambasting Amanda Palmer for. I think a lot of it is aesthetic and related to affiliation/identity politics.

There have been points on this thread where the discussion veers towards sexism, which makes me uncomfortable tbh.

i'll totally admit that once there's a thread about how a public figure is a endless fountain of ridiculousness people won't be picky about what they throw on pile, and obv said piles can go in ugly places (which should be called out when they do). but if there's another active one on palmer's level ilx has ignored i think ilx would be in your debt if you pointed them out, because we love to revel in the words of such folk.

I didn't read any sexism here, not saying it's not here, but the pile-up on her Facebook thread and Twitter and well everywhere else makes me wonder if people have thought out the best way talk about a narcissist public figure with a persecution complex. Obv I'm guilty as anybody

yeah it's not like i can genuinely defend this kind of peanut gallery snickering - obv pile-on mockery isn't good for the earth. i'd just argue ilx isn't choosy about who they offer it to.

I've always thought that there must be something else in the background going on - Gaiman seems a sensible guy and they seem content in each other - to mean there was a certain tongue in cheek element.

I know nothing about Gaiman beyond liking Good Omens and the Doctor Who episode he wrote with the sentient TARDIS. I've been unable to finish anything else he's written that I've tried to read.

Ever since I read that blog post she made where she used images & stories of bullied teens who commited suicide as stand-ins for the persecution she felt from the kickstarter/paying musician in beer criticism nothing she says surprises me. There is no low she will not stoop to.
