RAP GAME SHANI DAVIS (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 21 October 2014 00:51 (eleven years ago)

It took me quite some time to get to track three because I couldn't stop playing the banjo one.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 22 October 2014 17:27 (eleven years ago)

one month passes...

What would be your top 10 Quik songs, ilxors? (I'm too lazy to do a poll.)

longneck, Sunday, 23 November 2014 20:00 (eleven years ago)

no but seriously im not a dick like that (Spottie), Monday, 24 November 2014 02:34 (eleven years ago)

Lol, make it a top 50 then.

longneck, Monday, 24 November 2014 09:52 (eleven years ago)

I picked three from each album and some other stragglers

http://open.spotify.com/user/theshipment/playlist/2mi07tsTqfj0zYDeO9KofT

didn't put too much into it but you can get a good feel for him based on that list.

ha, i'm familiar with most of it - but curious about ypur rankings, do thanks for the spotify link - there's so much good stuff but a lot of it is approximately equal imo. Rhytmalism is my favorite though.

i think the "palm trees... beautiful" also came from the same source
when that anecdote first came out, i was pretty floored that he used found footage to such amazing effect. it's a mark of great artistry.

Face facts poptimism hacks, your a scam. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 26 November 2014 19:57 (eleven years ago)

deej loaf (D-40), Wednesday, 3 December 2014 15:16 (eleven years ago)

had it dropped in summer i wouldn't have stopped playing it i think

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 December 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

this hasn't stuck with me either, i also suspect winter of killing it - it's good when i play it but it's never exactly what i'm craving right now

lex pretend, Wednesday, 3 December 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

Shine is the only song on there that doesn't sound like it belongs on a Quik album.

no but seriously im not a dick like that (Spottie), Wednesday, 3 December 2014 18:40 (eleven years ago)

"Life Jacket" is the only track that's stuck in my head

burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb ranks (The Reverend), Wednesday, 3 December 2014 20:06 (eleven years ago)

I like this more than Book of David too, such a fun album front to back.

Tim F, Wednesday, 3 December 2014 20:48 (eleven years ago)

That's crazy talk imo...

What's the (replayed) sample on "Pet Semetary"? It seems super obvious and on the tip of my tongue, I feel like Just Blaze(?) used the actual sample before

ANU (sisilafami), Friday, 12 December 2014 10:12 (eleven years ago)

Yeah it's loads better than the Book of David which was totally on it when it hit but had a few mediocre beats and this kind of sourness to some of the tracks. This one is just terrific throughout.

Matt DC, Friday, 12 December 2014 11:25 (eleven years ago)

oh, even more obvious than I was thinking.

half the fun of Book of David was how it determinedly bounced back and forth from goodtimes party jams (which were WAY WAY BETTER than the ones on this album) to Quik at his most prissy and peevish. The new album is some halfassed autopilot shit.

burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb ranks (The Reverend), Friday, 12 December 2014 11:56 (eleven years ago)

^^^^9 songs better than any song on the new album

burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb ranks (The Reverend), Friday, 12 December 2014 11:59 (eleven years ago)

The new album is some halfassed autopilot shit

Even if that were true, Quik on autopilot is still better than many artists' A-game.

Matt DC, Saturday, 13 December 2014 10:53 (eleven years ago)

agree with rev, only trax that really stick off this are "life jacket" and "that getter" - none of it's bad as such but it's when you go back to the book of david that you really realise the gulf in quality

lex pretend, Saturday, 13 December 2014 13:23 (eleven years ago)

man i couldn't agree any less with that assessment -- all the best stuff on the album is the autopilot stuff! when it gets bad is when he tries to do stuff that isn't in wheelhouse and/or lets his son rap

J0rdan S., Monday, 15 December 2014 01:00 (eleven years ago)

yeah these are v uncharitable views on this record, which is great, i've just had trouble returning to it
