he helped open a gallery/club in honolulu (that's on oahu) a few years back. its a lovely place with a rooftop garden, art on the walls, and great staff/managment in one of honolulu's oldest neighborhoods.

the question is: how is hawaii otherwise? i'm interested... cuz that sounds all right.

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

one of honolulu's oldest crack neighborhoods.

Confounded (Confounded), Thursday, 29 June 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

haha... yeah, its a bit of a dodgy neighborhood, but this article from a year ago kind of tries and lay out how its going through a regentrification/renewal.

otherwise, hawaii is great. for a city of just over a million people, honolulu has quite a lot to offer... and the countryside, beaches, mountains, rainforests and all that are just a few minutes away. its no new york or london, but it suits me fine so far.

also, the club has a website: www.thirtyninehotel.com.

grady (grady), Thursday, 29 June 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for the great E2-E4 story grady..

what else did he play dare i ask? did he play inot the evening at the beach?

My wife and I are planning to goto his hawaiin New Years Party this year , before going back home (to the phillipines) visit.

Gary Abugan (henry chinaski), Friday, 30 June 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

i can't recall anything else he played- i'm not really the spotter type. i think i recognized a casino vs. japan track.

phil mison was there too, and they kind of tag-teamed saturday nite at the club and sunday afternoon on the beach. i hadn't heard phil before but really i liked his style. i guess he's famous for chill out stuff but he was playing disco bangers and totally working the party saturday nite. really fun stuff.

that picture up there is the actual sunset in question.

gary, you should def. come. the pictures of the last nye party look like it was a good time.

confounded: so you've been to honolulu's chinatown before?

grady (grady), Friday, 30 June 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
There's a (new?) DJ Harvey mix CD for sale at Turntable Lab now- called "Sonic Disco #1," on a label I've never heard of called King Biscuit. Some Googling makes me think it's a Japanese release, or possibly a bootleg. Picked it up anyway, I'll let people know how it turns out.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

for anyone in the area (SoCal, orange county in particular), Harvey is playing at our bar. he's incredible live so if you've never seen him you should. it's a sunglasses at night party and it's gonna be 70s chugga chugga badass music all night. email me for rsvp info if you're interested, as it will definitely be full.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

when is this?

Mike Hooter (jaxon), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

oops, yeah, saturday. this saturday. just happens to be my birthday too.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, over at Avalon? Dude, you really must not do these things when I'm already booked. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, and where. you're being so vague. i have a friend that might go to this. i won't be in LA until the 11th though

jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

i wasn't being vague, i said orange county. but anyhow. it's in costa mesa, 820 w. 19th st, the bar is called Avalon. like i said, email me (or have your friend email or whatever), or if you show up early enough i am sure it will be fine (around 9:30-10). the place is tiny, 80 people max capacity.

and ned, you sure have a full calendar!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

Sonic Disco is a bootleg of this I believe:

The liner notes are copied from Harv's '96 Ministry of Sound mix CD.

When is the next sarcastic disco?

hector (hector), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

That is such a beautiful question.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

You are being an imp today Mr. Raggett.

hector (hector), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

I love me. :-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

Ah. Pity it's a bootleg, but I regret nothing. Dude should really release more mixes, especially the MoS mix which goes for crazy prices on ebay now...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

confounded: so you've been to honolulu's chinatown before?

I grew up in Honolulu.

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 01:08 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone be so kind to share an mp3 of that Sarcastic Disco Harvey mix? Damn things driving me crazy, I need a copy for my travels!

i want to pull that e2-e4 beach sunset trick so bad

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

last night sucked. he played "Go Bang" and then 2-3 hours of fucking boring house music. along the way he managed to either bump the needle or trainwreck at least 20 times. he finished with the Stone's "Emotional Rescue" (which i'd just happened to listen to that day at home), Black Harmony's "Don't Let it Go To Your Hea" from the Hustle! Reggae Disco comp and then i think Slave's "Touch of Love". boring.

where was he at? i was at some wack party in the mission, watching clowns try to hit on my gf.

HUNTA-V (vahid), Sunday, 12 November 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

RX Gallery in the loin. really nice space.

jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 12 November 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

he plays there semi-regularly i think. heard him over the summer and remember really liking it though i can't recall much other than hearing the dfa chem bros remix.

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:11 (nineteen years ago)

ps is there a goettsching / e2e4 thread? google sez no

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

i don't think there is.

i did a search once and it turned up a billion "longest song ever" list threads.

researching ur life (grady), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

maybe e2e4 is best left in obscurity for the benefit of the world's beach djs

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:23 (nineteen years ago)

XPOST

BULLSHIT WHY NO 'EVERYTHING IS LOVE' ON THAT BLACK COCK COCK?!?!?!?

gaseous (gaseous), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

it DOES say Pt. 1

researching ur life (grady), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:29 (nineteen years ago)

vahid started a e2e4 vs. rainbow dome musik thread, but it's nowhere to be found

jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 17 November 2006 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

...it rode off into the sunset.

researching ur life (grady), Friday, 17 November 2006 07:08 (nineteen years ago)

needle skipping at rx is caused by shitty setup, not harvey. problems were had all night, and apparently were even worse in the week leading up to the party.

still, i agree. kinda boring. i ended up at that underground where modeselektor absolutely smashed it. proper sweaty loft party stylee.

something less threatening (heywood), Friday, 17 November 2006 08:35 (nineteen years ago)

"Joyous" is a choice cut.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 17 November 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

any word yet on which set they bootlegg'd "sonic disco #2" off of?

ps all the black cock stuff fits neatly on a 2cd, pretty lame that they boiled it down to one ...

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 17 November 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

it's weird but it just seems wrong to pay $$$ for anything w/ harvey's name on it.

HUNTA-V (vahid), Friday, 17 November 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

why is that?

mizzzell (mizzzell), Friday, 17 November 2006 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

it's so obnoxious when cd's like this have "bonus tracks"

mizzzell (mizzzell), Friday, 17 November 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

Is this Black Cock comp yet another bootleg or is there some connection to Harvey this time?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Friday, 17 November 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)
