I know you are all too damn cool for the 2005 Grammy Awards; but don't you think they deserve a little thread action anyway?

miccio (miccio), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:23 (nineteen years ago) link

I kinda liked that Los Lonely Boys just won an award. I mean, their music is deathly dull, but there's something sort've sweet about the three brothers winnin' something. And their Dad was there.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:23 (nineteen years ago) link

BEPs should change that song back to "Let's Get Retarded," since it would fit even more TV appearances.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:24 (nineteen years ago) link

The Brit Awards (once) had a "Can't Get You Out of My Head" + "Blue Monday" mash-up; all we get are truckloads of incoherent medleys.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:25 (nineteen years ago) link

that whole thing was a train wreck. if i didn't hate any of those songs before, i do now.

("take me out" is still sorta okay, but grrr.....)

lemin (lemin), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:25 (nineteen years ago) link

Well THANK GOD Alicia's not wearing a hat this time around.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:26 (nineteen years ago) link

Is that Prince's old drummer Michael Bland with Alicia?

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Meanwhile I'm sitting here listening to video game music.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:29 (nineteen years ago) link

I just saw Ricky Martin clapping!

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Well, the Alicia song was actually kinda awesome. See, people, you can be dynamic while sitting down!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:30 (nineteen years ago) link

the jamie foxx / alicia collab. was spectacular.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:32 (nineteen years ago) link

PRINCE WINS!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Wait wait wait...who won the dance music awards?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:35 (nineteen years ago) link

So did Bill Clinton, for best Spoken Word Album. The tally thus far:

Bill Clinton: 1
Usher: 0

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Toxic won best record, Kish Kash won best album in dance.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:37 (nineteen years ago) link

This better get better fast.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Kish Kash won best album in dance.

Yet another Grammy/ILM mind-meld!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Arrested Development is on, change to that. Just refresh this page occasionally: http://www.grammys.com/awards/grammy/47winners.aspx

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:38 (nineteen years ago) link

So now Bill and Hilary have both won Grammys ... surely this makes them the first ever President-First Lady couple to do so?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Gag, I missed Fergie's abs, never mind the "medley." Still in pukeshock from Maroon5's Sting vs. Jerry Lewis. Gee this was a swell idea Matt. OMG! Border Collies on the Animal Planet's Agility Dog Show (pre-Westminster,which is tomorrow night) thank U J

don, Monday, 14 February 2005 01:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes, Jerry Lee looks cadaverous, but I'm sure he'd kill each and every individual in the auditorium one-by-one if he could.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:41 (nineteen years ago) link

So did Bill Clinton, for best Spoken Word Album. The tally thus far:

Bill Clinton: 1
Usher: 0

-- m.e.a. (flpyrw...), February 14th, 2005.

Usher already won 3 awards that were announced before the televised ceremony.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:42 (nineteen years ago) link

If I didn't have deep suspicions about ILM's ability to recognize a good musical performance, it was cemented by the completely mental remarks being made about what must have been a Grammy opening in an alternate universe, as everyone in that opening medly was fucking awesome. So far, this is the first Grammy Awards where it looks like everyone's going to give a fantastic performance (esp. vocally).

Okay I realize the above is slightly undercut by U2 starting out with the moany slow song but Bono still sounds good.

Arrested Development guest-starring Martin Short = I'm not watching.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago) link

Dan, are you kidding? Gwen and Eve just sounded totally *lost* and without lung power.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago) link

i def. think the performances are quite good -- better than last years "lets throw them against the wall to see what sticks" haphazard collaborations.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Ray Charles has also won three non-televised Grammys, which makes me even more confident that he'll pick up some of the big awards.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

this U2 song is good! I liked it when they played it on SNL too. why did they release such a crappy song as their 2nd single instead of this?

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Jamie Foxx did not play that piano

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:46 (nineteen years ago) link

That's one of the best U2 songs in recent memory, ruined by Bono's sombrero.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Quentin Tarantino is sitting next to the RZA.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:46 (nineteen years ago) link

OK, I have a short memory, but has there been a presentation duo or trio that lacked a movie star?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:47 (nineteen years ago) link

are you saying he didn't or he can't? I wasn't playing close attention to whether he was during that performance, but I remember it being a big deal that he was really playing in Ray.

(x-post, re: Jamie Foxx)

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:48 (nineteen years ago) link

is the kill bill soundtrack up for something?

(x-post re: Q and Wu)

miccio (miccio), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Don't give the rock award to the old people!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:48 (nineteen years ago) link

I love the sound of Penelope Cruz's voice when she says "American Idiot". Dreamy.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Green Day are probably the youngest people in that category! would you prefer it went to Costello? (xp)

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:49 (nineteen years ago) link

billy joe's nu-goth look is so hott.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:50 (nineteen years ago) link

No, I meant don't give it to Costello!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:50 (nineteen years ago) link

i sure hope green day mentions that they hate war

miccio (miccio), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:50 (nineteen years ago) link

The only thing dangerous about Green Day these days is that eyeliner, which would get Billie Joe laughed out of my college cafeteria.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:51 (nineteen years ago) link

I guess they must like war, then.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:51 (nineteen years ago) link

I think Ellen was sitting next to Portia de Rossi, speaking of "Arrested Development."

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:51 (nineteen years ago) link

actually remove the "sure." if they said something remotely inflammatory it would half-dignify their entrance into this circle

miccio (miccio), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:51 (nineteen years ago) link

I was listening to Warning the other day and looking at the liner notes, and Billie Joe is definitely looking better these days than the chubby faced blond crewcut look he had in 2000.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Aren't they a couple?

xpost

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Jimmy and John Paul were sitting together!! Has there been a rapproachment?

Bill Frisell wins best jazz album, most deserved. Sundar will be happy.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Maybe he wears the eyeliner to keep the glare down, like football players.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:52 (nineteen years ago) link

war has been very very good to green day

miccio (miccio), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Great! The CHEVY AD has a mash-up, and still we have medleys on the Grammys.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 14 February 2005 01:53 (nineteen years ago) link
