guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 10 October 2014 15:20 (eleven years ago)

thank you w/o my fans i wld be nothing

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 15:22 (eleven years ago)

lmao did he call Kanye's "I Won" verse 'genius'

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:04 (eleven years ago)

omg...

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 16:05 (eleven years ago)

ur right

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 16:05 (eleven years ago)

Black portland somehow becoming the signature thug album is so weird

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:09 (eleven years ago)

is that true in an other than chrisbro sense

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 16:12 (eleven years ago)

yeah even when it was his most widely reviewed project at the time there was a whole tone of "we're talking about this because it's the first thing he dropped since Stoner/Danny Glover, it's not a major or representative release." i can't tell if Christgau never caught that vibe or is just rebelling against it.

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:19 (eleven years ago)

he's mentioned it several times all year, so for him it was likely "first release I loved is the first one I love"

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

album of the year, he said in an interview or someplace

people who continue to hold up "Picachu" as a key Young Thug song for years to come are gonna be like people who are way too into Lil Wayne's "I Feel Like Dying"

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:42 (eleven years ago)

that's a good comparison

it's an astounding song but he has a half dozen as good/better

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 17:05 (eleven years ago)

yeah both great songs that are kinda left field/not core

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 17:13 (eleven years ago)

tho tbh im not that into picachu

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 17:13 (eleven years ago)

in the real world, no; for critics, yes

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:20 (eleven years ago)

i always thought picachu was annoying and i think people are into it for its "weirdness" like he's just shouting random words or whatever
which, tbf, he is, but the weirdness unto itself appreciation of young thug is kind of annoying imo

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:21 (eleven years ago)

it's one of his best & most coherent hooks, lyrically

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:38 (eleven years ago)

i just mean 'my diamonds they say picachu' isn't the most clever hook, people just like the random reference

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:48 (eleven years ago)

a song called “Molly Workin’” has to hook harder than this one to make me forget that molly generates more fellatio providers than normally occur in nature.

this fuckin guy

well that part is sort of a non sequitur but everything that comes after that is just a pretty digestible modern rap hook constructed & delivered in a way that is very singular

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:01 (eleven years ago)

yeah but if he hadn't used the word picachu no one would single it out

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:03 (eleven years ago)

"my diamonds they say picachu" isn't random at all to his audience; pikachu sparkles and glimmers like a yellow diamond

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:15 (eleven years ago)

yeah like canary yellow

u2 removal machine (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

i think it's the "they say" part that makes it a non sequitur

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:42 (eleven years ago)

this is so otm

johnny crunch, Friday, 10 October 2014 20:47 (eleven years ago)

What is the with the terrible mastering on "I Got"? The rest of the Rich Gang tape sounds so clean.

goon kabuki (The Reverend), Friday, 10 October 2014 22:09 (eleven years ago)

not to be all gamenerdrapgenius here but all pikachu says is "pikachu"; it's pretty much his only character trait, so "they say pikachu" isn't too odd as a description of an ostentatiously yellow diamond. pikachu's wink is a signature move:

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 October 2014 22:12 (eleven years ago)

ah i never got that/i know nothing about pokemon

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 22:13 (eleven years ago)

i didnt either. regardless i think the song is a stan favorite bc of the relatable cultural reference not bc its the best song on the tape

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 22:24 (eleven years ago)

more credit for cleverness, tho

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 22:24 (eleven years ago)

Pika pika

u2 removal machine (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 10 October 2014 22:53 (eleven years ago)

omg, i had almost forgot about picachu. such a great song!

Frederik B, Friday, 10 October 2014 23:09 (eleven years ago)

people like it bc it's a really fun young thug song not cause it's a really weird young thug song

goon kabuki (The Reverend), Friday, 10 October 2014 23:49 (eleven years ago)

it's a fun track! the music feels very video game-y.

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 October 2014 23:50 (eleven years ago)

yes, that is key!

goon kabuki (The Reverend), Saturday, 11 October 2014 00:19 (eleven years ago)

givenchy is unbelievable

Jacques_Lamure, Saturday, 11 October 2014 09:05 (eleven years ago)

i'm halfway through the rich gang tape and it's such a drag. every song sounds exactly the same and there is such intolerable singing everywhere

lex pretend, Saturday, 11 October 2014 11:10 (eleven years ago)

if i had any time for men singing badly about their feelings i'd be a fucking indie fan

lex pretend, Saturday, 11 October 2014 11:17 (eleven years ago)

I like Young Thug but I can't really be doing with Rich Homie Quan at all. I'd be able to overlook an irritating persona if the beats were more fun and less generic but yeah the cumulative effect of four or five of these in a row is such a drag. I'm still mystified why so many rappers gravitate towards this one really fucking dull kind of beat.

(I get that it works for people, it's just clearly not for me, but it explains why hearing Mustard beats all over the place feels like such a breath of fresh air at this point)

Matt DC, Saturday, 11 October 2014 11:38 (eleven years ago)

all the beats are identical and tinny and so slow

lex pretend, Saturday, 11 October 2014 11:39 (eleven years ago)

it's such an energy-suck

lex pretend, Saturday, 11 October 2014 11:40 (eleven years ago)

i am determined to get to the end of this tape and i can't believe it's STILL GOING

lex pretend, Saturday, 11 October 2014 11:40 (eleven years ago)

flava / war ready / i know it / beat it up are my favs

idk i get the crit that the whole tape sounds the same but thats more positive than neg imo

heard u saying this a lot recently and it is an interesting critique just not of thugger, quan fine

lag∞n, Saturday, 11 October 2014 16:14 (eleven years ago)

singing about their feelings is like two tracks on this tape

deej loaf (D-40), Saturday, 11 October 2014 18:28 (eleven years ago)

yea that makes no sense 2 me as a critique

johnny crunch, Sunday, 12 October 2014 17:50 (eleven years ago)

it's lextown, all roads lead to "fucking indie"
