this tape YT is slightly more consistent and engaging that his usual tape standard. Sounds like he's waking up from a long coma on Bullets hook though. Quan's drowsy keyless crooning gets bit tiresome. All the beats on here sound the same.

Non throwaways:

See You
Flava
730
Tell Em (Lies)
Pull Up

that sucks abt the show. yeah same type of sitch when hes supposed to be in Connecticut..may go see lil durk instead which is at least at a legitimate venue

this tape sounds great btw

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 12:59 (eleven years ago)

I'd seen Gucci Mane and Young Scooter shows there without a problem, and there were plugs for the show on Young Thug's various social media feeds, so even at 1 a.m. it didn't dawn on me he wasn't gonna show. What's crazy is how little the audience cared. Nobody booed or was all that pissed (even with the DJ bad mouthing Thug). Everybody contently filed out without making a stink about it.

Travis Scott Stan didn't even mention the best record

deej loaf (D-40), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 16:46 (eleven years ago)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 19:27 (eleven years ago)

lex is there an Atlanta rapper to emerge in the past few years you are particularly enthused about?

goon kabuki (The Reverend), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 21:36 (eleven years ago)

I forgot if lex likes or hates Waka

, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 21:41 (eleven years ago)

goon kabuki (The Reverend), Tuesday, 30 September 2014 21:44 (eleven years ago)

lex pretend, Tuesday, 30 September 2014 21:57 (eleven years ago)

is it normal to put out a tape to promote a tour cause its a good idea and a win-win

lag∞n, Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:40 (eleven years ago)

this tape is full of jams

johnny crunch, Friday, 3 October 2014 22:40 (eleven years ago)

deej loaf (D-40), Saturday, 4 October 2014 18:50 (eleven years ago)

one of the supposed tourdates is at the arena in baltimore, which seems unlikely but then boosie played there over the summer

Raccoon Tanuki, Saturday, 4 October 2014 21:09 (eleven years ago)

xp you should pitch a review of that somewhere some dude

deej loaf (D-40), Saturday, 4 October 2014 21:13 (eleven years ago)

yeah will prob try to see/write about the show. it's pretty late in the tour though, by that point it should prolly be apparent whether it's a must-see show or not.

some dude, Saturday, 4 October 2014 23:28 (eleven years ago)

nice/weird to hear "who's on top" near the end of this thing

r|t|c, Monday, 6 October 2014 10:30 (eleven years ago)

This really is the 2014 tentpole release he needed. It slots right along with ICFN2 and 1017 Thug as one of those important career marker tapes

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:04 (eleven years ago)

omg...

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 16:05 (eleven years ago)

ur right

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 16:05 (eleven years ago)

Black portland somehow becoming the signature thug album is so weird

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:09 (eleven years ago)

is that true in an other than chrisbro sense

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 16:12 (eleven years ago)

yeah even when it was his most widely reviewed project at the time there was a whole tone of "we're talking about this because it's the first thing he dropped since Stoner/Danny Glover, it's not a major or representative release." i can't tell if Christgau never caught that vibe or is just rebelling against it.

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:19 (eleven years ago)

he's mentioned it several times all year, so for him it was likely "first release I loved is the first one I love"

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

album of the year, he said in an interview or someplace

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:32 (eleven years ago)

people who continue to hold up "Picachu" as a key Young Thug song for years to come are gonna be like people who are way too into Lil Wayne's "I Feel Like Dying"

Raccoon Newsy Wewsies (some dude), Friday, 10 October 2014 16:42 (eleven years ago)

that's a good comparison

it's an astounding song but he has a half dozen as good/better

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 17:05 (eleven years ago)

yeah both great songs that are kinda left field/not core

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 17:13 (eleven years ago)

tho tbh im not that into picachu

lag∞n, Friday, 10 October 2014 17:13 (eleven years ago)

in the real world, no; for critics, yes

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:20 (eleven years ago)

i always thought picachu was annoying and i think people are into it for its "weirdness" like he's just shouting random words or whatever
which, tbf, he is, but the weirdness unto itself appreciation of young thug is kind of annoying imo

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:21 (eleven years ago)

it's one of his best & most coherent hooks, lyrically

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:38 (eleven years ago)

i just mean 'my diamonds they say picachu' isn't the most clever hook, people just like the random reference

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 19:48 (eleven years ago)

a song called “Molly Workin’” has to hook harder than this one to make me forget that molly generates more fellatio providers than normally occur in nature.

this fuckin guy

well that part is sort of a non sequitur but everything that comes after that is just a pretty digestible modern rap hook constructed & delivered in a way that is very singular

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:01 (eleven years ago)

yeah but if he hadn't used the word picachu no one would single it out

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:03 (eleven years ago)

"my diamonds they say picachu" isn't random at all to his audience; pikachu sparkles and glimmers like a yellow diamond

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:15 (eleven years ago)

yeah like canary yellow

u2 removal machine (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 10 October 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

i think it's the "they say" part that makes it a non sequitur
