Yeah I mean, anyone putting them out's fine. I hope they do an annotated booklet with detailed explanation of cultural references for us Americans, though.

'ey, ya bleedoh, you got a right cob on' = 'You're in a rather foul mood, you silly man', in East Midlands speak, iirc.

Was thinking more along the lines of "Cameron's hairdresser got an MBE," which I had to Google.

Sleaford Mods: 'Most days I'd only have enough money for a Mars bar and a can of Special Brew'They may be the gobbiest band in the UK – just ask Miles Kane – but there's a political fury behind their angry missives

someone told me that Matador bailed on signing them and regretted it after the fact
Matador put out a 7" as part of their singles club, though

Matador 7" is a hole in the collection, can't find it anywhere.
Woof, is there any chance you could pick me up a copy of the 7" split with Sudden Infant that will be on sale tonight? Gossip suggests it's only available in very small numbers so unlikely it's be on sale anywhere other than the 100 Club.

no problem - I'll look for it and report back tomorrow on success/failure.

7" split with Sudden Infant
amazing, love this even if I never hear it
― sleeve, Thursday, 23 October 2014 15:23 (nine years ago) link
they're also doing a single on Iron Lung which is comparably ill-fitting/excellent
no-one seems to sell any of the Matador singles club releases, even by bands who aren't quite as collectible rn

FWIW, the Matador 7" tracks are also on Chubbed Up: The Singles Collection, which is on digital release already and vinyl release very soon.

It was his last day at work today, apparently. The plan was always to give it up this autumn, as demand for gig bookings grew.

ended up snaffling woof's spare ticket, which led to a slightly odd evening of going to the first half of what I was originally doing - watching Andreas Staier on fortepiano at the Wigmore Hall doing Schubert moments musicaux, Schumann fantasiestücke (after ETA Hoffman), and some Beethoven bagatelles. This was a remarkable, slightly more forceful set of interpretations than you'll hear in other performances. I find the Fantasiestücke (Op 12) slightly inscrutable, but the intricacy and lyricism of the Schubert pieces, makes you feel like you're looking into a momentary scene in which the detail is revelatory and meaningful - like a piece of lyrical memory that stays with you forever despite its slightness. also by fuck it makes you want to be in Vienna.
then hotfooted it to the 100 Club and watched Sudden Infant, Consumer Electronics and Seaford Mods - all of whom were very good I thought. Inventive belligerence of different types, with some tasty crowd antagonism on the part of Consumer Electronics. Not a huge amount of flexibility in the SM approach, but when Jason's going full whack it's very entertaining and generally bucks up the spirit.

Nottingham's getting a lot of them at the moment: they supported The Pop Group earlier this week, and they're supporting The Specials very soon (the latter also nationally).

The other day, after a particularly shit day, I was on the bus home listening to the Tiswas EP. I tweeted that it was a very Sleaford Mods kind of journey home. They tweeted back. A minute after I got off the bus, I was hit by a car. Not hurt, but the only way it could have been more Sleaford Modsesque would have been if I'd spilt a can of beer when hit by the car.
