"Lifestyle" peaking just as summer weather finally arrives just feels so right. Great driving song.

― voodoo chili, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 20:31 (nine years ago) link
OMG is kinda like a weaker 'fight night' right?
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link
"OMG" is the one song where i think he sounds too much like a spongebob character
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 20:35 (nine years ago) link
i think we should talk about what makes his music bad when it's bad, bc while we are largely fans the polarized online argument of 'the only rapper worth hearing' vs. 'destroying the culture' is wholly ruining the enjoyment of young thug for me
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 20:37 (nine years ago) link
on the contrary i feel like a lot of the "destroying the culture" arguments lobbed at young thug are as homophobic as any rapper since..... kanye? that makes me like young thug a lot more
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 20:49 (nine years ago) link
i almost feel like the stylistic war regarding young thug-type rappers has been ceded by the conservatives and that it's actually more acceptable to argue against young thug (or lil b) on subtextually homophobic grounds

there are plenty of people who just think he sucks as a rapper w/out needing a homophobic subtext

these people are idiots but young thug is also not the only good rapper alive
Thugga's perceived "gayness" is all about style though.

"Fight Night" is kind of gross and unfun to me :(
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 21:14 (nine years ago) link
the "fight night" verses are incredible but there's def something tone deaf about the song i.e. the single cover is boxing gloves with lipstick marks on them smfh

i hate that line and don't think that song is very good
young thug explicitly remaking drake songs is... not the road he should travel

I'll agree on the line, it's gross, but that song is such an improvement on "The Language" which is so damn drab & I have no idea why people think it's a highlight
then again I only give a shit about "Hold On" off that album so yeah

tbh wasn't a fan of dude's Fallon outfit but it's irrelevant to dude's music (well OK, guess it's part of his persona but I mean as far as me listening to it) & shit just seems like a repeat of '07 Wayne kissing Baby "OMG homothug rappers taking over" stuff
honestly though we may have already moved from the "LMAO what a joke dude's annoying" to "I recognize his talent, buuut..." phase of Thug's career though. Not sure. In a few years he'll put out his I Am Not a Human Being II and everyone who doesn't like him now'll be all maaan remember when he was dope? It's the inevitable rap cycle

on that same note pretty sure Jeezy's a Respected Elder of hip hop now, but I'm so old I remember when his simple flow/rhyming same words together/yeaaaahhhs were ruining hip hop. tbf though he has changed his rapping style some starting with The Recession or so, for better or worse.
I'm not sure who's stepped in to fill the ruininghiphop void these days, I'm not sure if it's Thug actually, and with Eminem fans Wayne seems to be the root of all evil for some reason (cuz they were on a few tracks together where Em rapped all impassioned/constipated-like, maybe) but yeah, dunno.

Bay Area Rapper Berner Hips Wiz Khalifa To Trippy StickBay Area rapper “Berner” is known to most Californians as more than just a good underground Hip Hop artist. To them, he’s known as one of the finest marijuana / club dealers on the West Coast. His name carries weight on the streets of North California and of course, rapper Wiz Khalifa, is one of his compadres. Recently, the two hooked up to bring Wiz and the Taylor Gang family into Berner’s world, upgrading the Pittsburgh stoners to the latest smoking technology.
“Peep Game, this is why I like it the most. It charges with a USB right. So on your laptop – on your anything right. So you got disposable cartridges,” says Berner to Taylor Gang’s Chevy Woods as he begins to educate them on Trippy Sticks. “The Type of Places I been smoking this thang… Disneyland – House of Prime Rib last night. It smell’s like a new _____ sauce” he continued.
Unaware of the Trippy Stick in 2011, Wiz Khalifa and the Taylor Gang were educated to the new stoner technology by rapper Berner during a California trip. The Bay Area rapper and business mogul tells Wiz Khalifa, Chevy Woods, and the rest of the Taylors how to use it. Berner also shows them the accessories of Trippy Sticks along with some of his favorite features.
Around the 3 minute 30 seconds mark of the Trippy Stick video, Wiz Khalifa takes his first hit of the hash oil vaporizer. For 13 seconds Wiz sucks in the Hash smoke until choking a little then dancing around in stoner-joy. The Pittsburgh marijuana smoker holds in the vapors for another 10 seconds, releasing the lung-caged fumes at approximately 3 minutes and 53 seconds.
“That High” says Wiz Khalifa after 1 toke on the Trippy Stick. “This $h*t is real” he continued.
The end experience of Wiz Khalifa, thanks to Berner, is that a Trippy Stick is a necessary tool for new age stoners. As a gift Berner gave Wiz Khalifa his own personal stick and 5 hash oil clips.
