85$ for a concert ticket is infuriating. I really wanted to see him live.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 01:09 (eleven years ago)

when he played here on his spring tour tickets were $25. but there's a whole shady cottage industry of nightclubs who book a midlevel rapper to perform for 20 minutes and charge an arm and a leg.

some dude, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 01:14 (eleven years ago)

It's part of the local festival. All good if it helps the local festival alive, give a chant to emergent artists to perform and whatnot, but there is so little hip-hop going in this city (montreal) it ends up being very frustrating.

Ab-Soul used to be an actual good rapper, I have no idea what happened. The rest of the dudes acquit themselves pretty well.

Also, Blank Face is out today.

poolboy skew (voodoo chili), Friday, 8 July 2016 13:33 (nine years ago)

I have just been listening to Blank Face, not feeling a lot of it - maybe I'm just not in the mood for it. I keep waiting for habits and contradictions 2 tbh.

calzino, Friday, 8 July 2016 13:46 (nine years ago)

"Man of the Year" is still song of the year

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 8 July 2016 14:50 (nine years ago)

^might be right

im liking this though, not sure i heard a standout killer jam but all m/l was pleasing

johnny crunch, Friday, 8 July 2016 20:03 (nine years ago)

I had a bit of a stoned epiphany listening to Blank Face last night and have decided it is pretty dope after all.

calzino, Sunday, 10 July 2016 12:19 (nine years ago)

It hasn't got anything to match some of the bangers off oxymoron, but it is still a fine album.

calzino, Sunday, 10 July 2016 12:20 (nine years ago)

I'm in love with "Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 10 July 2016 12:25 (nine years ago)

the tha dogg pound track bangs p good

johnny crunch, Sunday, 10 July 2016 21:24 (nine years ago)

record is good. been pretty hit and miss artist for me but this is consistent

moistest hoist (Spottie), Tuesday, 12 July 2016 00:21 (nine years ago)

This is amazing. Agreed that Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane is something else. Love the Vince Staples and E-40 tracks too.

It certainly is punk of the Church of England to think that way (tangenttangent), Sunday, 17 July 2016 11:31 (nine years ago)

Even despite the inconsistency of previous albums I still loved 'em, but this one hasn't got a dud track on it and is probably his best album yet. But still my fave ever Q tracks are on habits.. and oxymoron.

calzino, Sunday, 17 July 2016 13:01 (nine years ago)

I don't know those albums at all - this is my introduction. I'll definitely revisit older stuff on the strength of this though.

It certainly is punk of the Church of England to think that way (tangenttangent), Sunday, 17 July 2016 13:07 (nine years ago)

Oxymoron is at least half an alltime classic album, plenty on it to love.

calzino, Sunday, 17 July 2016 13:16 (nine years ago)

John Muir is another cut off Blank Face i keep repeating.

calzino, Sunday, 17 July 2016 16:30 (nine years ago)

yep

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 17 July 2016 16:31 (nine years ago)

JoHn Muir is indeed a highlight, classic rider anthem with crisp live drums

You gotta admire the man's dedication to the capital "H" meme

poolboy skew (voodoo chili), Sunday, 17 July 2016 16:51 (nine years ago)

i don't know what i think yet, it did sound aimless as i've seen said, but strong, likely a grower

j., Sunday, 17 July 2016 21:49 (nine years ago)

I felt like that at first, it is deffo a grower and has a lot of strength in depth.

calzino, Sunday, 17 July 2016 21:59 (nine years ago)

good album imo

based stress reduction (crüt), Monday, 18 July 2016 14:46 (nine years ago)

this sounds great on first listen to me

can't tell if there's anything as good as 'man of the year' or 'collard greens' but there was a huge gap between those 2 and the next best track on oxymoron, this is way more consistent

flopson, Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:11 (nine years ago)

Yeah this was my feeling as well

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:25 (nine years ago)

Well I'd put "studio" up there but more for bj the Chicago kid

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:25 (nine years ago)

"John Muir" is a serious standout for me

Number None, Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:48 (nine years ago)

Spottie, Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:50 (nine years ago)

I can't believe how much better than Oxymoron this is, replace THat Part with the Black Hippy remix and drop the (sadly ignorable) Miguel collab and it's even better

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 31 July 2016 06:15 (nine years ago)

amazing video

bunny slopes, Sunday, 31 July 2016 18:24 (nine years ago)

Amazing track as well, it sits easily amongst his finest work

I can't believe how much better than Oxymoron this is

is it possible that oxymoron is not as bad as it seemed

j., Thursday, 1 March 2018 15:26 (eight years ago)

I like all his last 3 albums, none of them are perfect but they are still totally ace.

calzino, Thursday, 1 March 2018 15:32 (eight years ago)

blank face is kinda perfect to me

Was just blasting out JoHn Muir and thinking: another new Schoolboy Q alb badly needed.

calzino, Thursday, 30 August 2018 21:27 (seven years ago)

How popular is he? I really like him but I feel like he ain't talked about as much as A$AP Rocky or anyone from the mumble crew.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 30 August 2018 21:48 (seven years ago)

that's a bit sad, can't wait for the new lp to drop tho.

new album out today--it felt like there was a weird lack of hype for this one, idk why.

mourning joe (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 April 2019 14:52 (seven years ago)

gave it a full listen this morning. feels low-stakes and fragmented compared to Blank Face. some good moments and cool production but weirdly unambitious. some grating hooks, too.

Simon H., Friday, 26 April 2019 14:57 (seven years ago)

yeah, i figured from the pre-released tracks that it wouldn't be as ambitious or eclectic as blank face, but whatever, every artist reserves the right to make minor works every once in a while.

mourning joe (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 April 2019 14:58 (seven years ago)

I don't think he's charming enough to coast through bang average material or something. what a disappointment :(

calzino, Friday, 26 April 2019 15:17 (seven years ago)

yeah, this is pretty listless, with a couple exceptions (5200, Numb Numb Juice, maybe the Cudi collab).

mourning joe (voodoo chili), Friday, 26 April 2019 15:26 (seven years ago)
