Oh cool, think I will then.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 12:50 (eleven years ago)

one year passes...

http://www.factmag.com/2016/06/14/danny-brown-warp-when-it-rain/

this should be good. i find his 'trad' rap stuff kinda dull for the most part.

StillAdvance, Wednesday, 15 June 2016 14:56 (nine years ago)

always get this dude and danny boy mixed up in my head

Looking forward to the new one, Old has become a slow burn favourite of mine.

chap, Thursday, 15 September 2016 18:26 (nine years ago)

I loved "When It Rains."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 15 September 2016 18:34 (nine years ago)

Album is streaming on Apple Music now

I know hoes that know Ali Farka Toure (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:36 (nine years ago)

going to see him tonight!

Ooh, and it's already on Spotify, thank god

I know hoes that know Ali Farka Toure (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:38 (nine years ago)

it's uh, also on tidal

dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:39 (nine years ago)

"tell me what i don't know" is stunning

like the more natural delivery, his really antic, hyper voice wears on me

Pull your head on out your hippy haze (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:54 (nine years ago)

tbh hoping for the antic wild stuff live, though

dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 19:55 (nine years ago)

M@tt otm, best when he finds the balance between the two voices. May be why I still prefer The Hybrid to anything else he's released since.

Spottie, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 20:04 (nine years ago)

gripes about the voice aside...man...this album is really something huh?

this has been a problem for me from day one. love everything about Danny except those songs.

like the more natural delivery, his really antic, hyper voice wears on me

alpine static, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 21:11 (nine years ago)

imo the "natural voice" stuff is mostly a framing device for the "here comes danny brown!" moment when the lyrics fall back into the depression/paranoia.... drugs/pussy/no sleep/AHHHH lyrical breakdown

dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Tuesday, 27 September 2016 21:19 (nine years ago)

Today has some 'Kast BOB flow/cadence going

Spottie, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 22:21 (nine years ago)

album kinda dropped off in the middle but the ends are great

Spottie, Tuesday, 27 September 2016 22:21 (nine years ago)

ungh I think the openers have short sets so they threw a really perfunctory dj out. maybe should have shown up later -- I usually like to see openers but this is padding wtf

dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 01:42 (nine years ago)

first thoughts are all "omg this the best shit ever" hyperbole. it's obv not perfect but i don't see my opinion dropping much!

i can see some of the backlash coming already - look, he made an artsy noisy obtuse album for ppl who don't like street rap/ppl who dont like popular rap/hipsters/insert strawman here - but every indication of his personality makes me feel like he made exactly what he wanted to make, and hear.

(overwrought metaphor coming) it feels like distorted sonar dispatches from someone traveling through the inside of his head. (overwrought metaphor that i nonetheless believe complete)

if young slothrop don't trust ya i'm gon' rhyme ya (slothroprhymes), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 03:50 (nine years ago)

only getting to listen to this in small chunks but it's great so far. i don't always like Paul White's production but it works for a cohesive sound across the whole thing (the beat on 'Pneumonia' though, i'd be ok if Evian Christ did every track).

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Friday, 30 September 2016 15:03 (nine years ago)

evian christ (thumbs up)

the sequence from "Really Doe" to "Dance in the Water" is amazing

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:51 (nine years ago)

Earl Sweatshirt verse is kinda garbs

warm winds and clear skies, Saturday, 1 October 2016 22:41 (nine years ago)

Earl is so overrated

Spottie, Sunday, 2 October 2016 02:48 (nine years ago)

Album has its moments, but it's not as good as Old so far... production sounds like its competing with DB. White Lines is cool though.

warm winds and clear skies, Sunday, 2 October 2016 19:53 (nine years ago)

two weeks pass...

love this album, especially all the uptempo tracks. it's all i've felt like listening to lately.

production sounds like its competing with DB.

when i heard the tracks they released ahead of the album i had that same thought, that the post-punky samples didn't really blend with his voice, but in context it all somehow works.

on the other hand, i really don't like the production on the new Open Mike Eagle, there it clashes and doesn't leave enough space for him.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Thursday, 20 October 2016 17:18 (nine years ago)

one of the year's best imo

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 20 October 2016 17:20 (nine years ago)

I think I agree

i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 26 October 2016 02:23 (nine years ago)

Yep, great album on the strength of the production alone. Need to dig more into the lyrics but this is definitely standing up to Old and XXX

I know hoes that know Ali Farka Toure (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 26 October 2016 02:33 (nine years ago)

just heard an old bigg jus company flow verse and thought "hmm this is a danny brown crazy voice verse, without the crazy voice"

He posted the video for "Ain't it Funny" yesterday. Probably my favorite video of his. Increasingly convinced that Danny Brown is one of the best rappers atm. He's got a unique, singular vision. Him, Earl, Kanye... I would listen to anything they do.

Great song and an even better video (directed by Jonah Hill????)

Every time I come across a Danny Brown song, my reaction is always "who knew that people would be all over a rapping Sammy Davis, Jr?"

brigadier pudding (DJP), Friday, 6 September 2019 17:02 (six years ago)

I didn't think I'd ever heard this guy, but after ^ that description I suspected it was that weird sounding guy on that one track on Sour Soul, and so I investigated and of course it is. will probably listen to this

Arriving to the venue and thinking “is this the right show?” because the audience skewed pretty young. sign of a robust fanbase.

remembered I’m the same age as Danny Brown and felt centered

Been relistening to Old and Atrocity Exhibition often this week.
