oy!! "HEAVY METAL AND REFLECTIVE" LEAKED! It's okay because y'all need that new new anyway! Go find it

on her own soundcloud, wonder if she'll ever get to the bottom of who leaked this

boney tassel (sic), Monday, 28 July 2014 06:10 (eleven years ago)

"Wallace" is rumoured to be a banger but I'll believe it when I hear it.

For now...I guess she's making more interesting music than Angel Haze these days?

uxorious gazumping (monotony), Monday, 28 July 2014 07:10 (eleven years ago)

uhhh sounds unfinished but it's not horrible?

dyl, Monday, 28 July 2014 14:03 (eleven years ago)

I'm chalking this up to Stopped Clock Syndrome but this is the first thing I've ever heard from her that I've really liked

Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Monday, 28 July 2014 14:20 (eleven years ago)

not bad, but more of a track one intro

go ahead. make vid where u rap about this new TMNT movie. (forksclovetofu), Monday, 28 July 2014 14:43 (eleven years ago)

one month passes...

I'm the first to laugh at Azealia but this is the first track of hers I've liked in ~years~ https://soundcloud.com/azealiabanksweb/azealia-banks-chasing-time

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Monday, 22 September 2014 21:20 (eleven years ago)

first track you've liked since 2112

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 22 September 2014 21:24 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, that's pretty fire imo.

Greer, Monday, 22 September 2014 21:24 (eleven years ago)

yeah, this is great; i will happily eat crow if she can put out a solid basement jaxxin' album

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Monday, 22 September 2014 22:13 (eleven years ago)

I will eat crow if she puts out an album.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Monday, 22 September 2014 22:27 (eleven years ago)

her not putting out an album for so long seemed to be more about her label shelving her than an inability to record songs, w/o the label i'd imagine she'll put an album out pretty quickly now

some dude, Monday, 22 September 2014 22:46 (eleven years ago)

"yung rapunxel" was pretty good as was "count contessa", the first single from her second album (lol) http://pitchfork.com/news/52301-listen-azealia-banks-count-contessa/

tbh i kinda think the new joint is whatever and is benefitting from being separated from the stink of her label mess

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Monday, 22 September 2014 23:15 (eleven years ago)

yeah I don't think this is much better than "Yung Rapunxel," as both were solid

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 22 September 2014 23:17 (eleven years ago)

Chasing Time was written to appease record label execs who complained there was no radio-friendly hits on the album, so she told the crowd at her gig the other night. i liked that one best from the new tracks she played. it was the quietest i've ever seen Manchester Academy in 20something years. whoever booked her for a 2,500 capacity venue up here wants their head examining, couldn't have been more than 400 kids in there.

piscesx, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 03:49 (eleven years ago)

haven't heard new one but "heavy metal and reflective" was actually not bad at all

lex pretend, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 11:02 (eleven years ago)

this is the first track of hers I've liked in ~years~

This is the exact same copy Slate is using in a post about this song, and when I saw it I was like, she hasn't been around for that long, has she? YEARS.

Also, I learned about an Azealia Banks song from a tweet by Slate. #2014

jaymc, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 12:54 (eleven years ago)

Well, the 1991 EP (the last thing she put out that was not trash IMO, other than the new song) came out more than two years ago

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:36 (eleven years ago)

i really liked "esta noche" from that otherwise mediocre mixtape

this would be good if the chorus were much better

dyl, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 15:43 (eleven years ago)

I still don't get people who liked 1991 but not Fantasea.

ban raccoon tanuki (The Reverend), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:27 (eleven years ago)

^that.

Greer, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:30 (eleven years ago)

i didn't even like most of 1991 tbh lol

dyl, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:33 (eleven years ago)

fair enough

ban raccoon tanuki (The Reverend), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:35 (eleven years ago)

haven't heard new one but "heavy metal and reflective" was actually not bad at all

"heavy metal and reflective" had pretty dope lyrics but didn't work as a whole for me

also not a bad track though

snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:56 (eleven years ago)

Who could possibly hate 1991 the track?

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 21:21 (eleven years ago)

She makes a bunch of decent-to-great instrumentals worse all over that EP

💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 21:28 (eleven years ago)

having said that, "Chasing Time" is the second song of hers that I've liked, which I am finding distressing

💪😈⚠️ (DJP), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 21:35 (eleven years ago)

IS she really that hateable as an artist?

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 22:05 (eleven years ago)

She isn't if you keep away from Twitter.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 22:13 (eleven years ago)

she's not likeable on twitter but the only reason that "she's so awful as a person" has taken off as a media narrative is bc she didn't play the industry game

lex pretend, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 22:52 (eleven years ago)

tbf the only person i know who actively hates her is dan

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 22:57 (eleven years ago)

not as good as "heavy metal and reflective" (which was slow-burning fire imo), i think the singing (and whatever hook) sort of halts the momentum she builds up in the verses

lex pretend, Friday, 26 September 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

one month passes...

So her album is on iTunes now!

Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 6 November 2014 20:01 (eleven years ago)

at least she's getting on with it

dyl, Thursday, 6 November 2014 20:06 (eleven years ago)

this year's beyoncé

lex pretend, Thursday, 6 November 2014 20:11 (eleven years ago)

will happily retract if there's a spontaneous album in the next two months but i dunno.
― Look at this joke I've recognised, do you recognise it as well? (forksclovetofu), Saturday, July 12, 2014

four months kinda counts, I guess i should listen to this

Steve 'n' Seagulls and Flock of Van Dammes (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 6 November 2014 20:13 (eleven years ago)

i can't listen to it tonight (if it was actual beyoncé i'd've cancelled everything obv) but i'm totally looking forward to it, "heavy metal and reflective" has low-key become one of my singles of the year

lex pretend, Thursday, 6 November 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

If this was even last year, this thread would be blowing up right now

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Thursday, 6 November 2014 20:50 (eleven years ago)

well she was PROMOTING the album a year ago

this is gonna be fucking horrible and i will prob be listening along with many others if it actually surfaces

a dude eating another dude's leg in front of that dude (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 6 November 2014 21:00 (eleven years ago)

oh walk that back its there! chrome effed up loading the page the first time

a dude eating another dude's leg in front of that dude (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 6 November 2014 21:02 (eleven years ago)

yikes! talk about missing your moment.

I dunno. (amateurist), Thursday, 6 November 2014 22:01 (eleven years ago)

shrug and whoops. it most certainly is BAD though, sorry to disappoint.

i can see where other people might dig, but i don't care for the UK-garage/house/wutever beat styles in the ways they're deployed here by her producers, and her voice/rhymes are pretty meh

add the noxious online persona to that (I mean, saying homophobic shit when a notable portion of your fanbase comes from that demographic seems real ill-advised, no???) and it all adds up to NOPE

a dude eating another dude's leg in front of that dude (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 6 November 2014 22:08 (eleven years ago)

a dude eating another dude's leg in front of that dude (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 6 November 2014 22:13 (eleven years ago)

lol what is this Peter Rosenberg cameo on "Desperado", fuck that guy

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Thursday, 6 November 2014 22:31 (eleven years ago)

odd for his real-hip-hop-head traditionalist ass to show up on her joint but hey, AB needs cosigns

ichabron crames (slothroprhymes), Thursday, 6 November 2014 22:59 (eleven years ago)

The last third of this album is fire.

Tay-Tay Brooklynpants (Murgatroid), Thursday, 6 November 2014 23:14 (eleven years ago)

So no mention of the fact that there's a cover of a song from Ariel Pink's Pom Pom on this?

MarkoP, Friday, 7 November 2014 03:27 (eleven years ago)

It's very sixties that both of them are releasing their respective versions of "Nude Beach a Go-Go" in the same month. This kind of thing should happen more often.

J. Sam, Friday, 7 November 2014 04:32 (eleven years ago)

this is basically a mixtape - bit of a mess, a few fire moments, shows lots of "promise"

she is SO much better at rapping than singing (well she can sing decently enough but she can't write a vocal hook to save her life)
