her not putting out an album for so long seemed to be more about her label shelving her than an inability to record songs, w/o the label i'd imagine she'll put an album out pretty quickly now

tbh i kinda think the new joint is whatever and is benefitting from being separated from the stink of her label mess

yeah I don't think this is much better than "Yung Rapunxel," as both were solid

Chasing Time was written to appease record label execs who complained there was no radio-friendly hits on the album, so she told the crowd at her gig the other night. i liked that one best from the new tracks she played. it was the quietest i've ever seen Manchester Academy in 20something years. whoever booked her for a 2,500 capacity venue up here wants their head examining, couldn't have been more than 400 kids in there.

having said that, "Chasing Time" is the second song of hers that I've liked, which I am finding distressing

she's not likeable on twitter but the only reason that "she's so awful as a person" has taken off as a media narrative is bc she didn't play the industry game

not as good as "heavy metal and reflective" (which was slow-burning fire imo), i think the singing (and whatever hook) sort of halts the momentum she builds up in the verses

i can see where other people might dig, but i don't care for the UK-garage/house/wutever beat styles in the ways they're deployed here by her producers, and her voice/rhymes are pretty meh

add the noxious online persona to that (I mean, saying homophobic shit when a notable portion of your fanbase comes from that demographic seems real ill-advised, no???) and it all adds up to NOPE

It's very sixties that both of them are releasing their respective versions of "Nude Beach a Go-Go" in the same month. This kind of thing should happen more often.

this is basically a mixtape - bit of a mess, a few fire moments, shows lots of "promise"

she is SO much better at rapping than singing (well she can sing decently enough but she can't write a vocal hook to save her life)
