I was the #1 vote here -- Fripp's metal tone in the soloing kills me dead as a hammer every time.

I didn't have room on my ballot for "China My China," but the instrumental break for massed guitars and typewriters on is still one of my favorite moments on TTM.
― one way street, Thursday, 10 July 2014 16:13 (ten years ago) link
"Blank Frank" seems much too low, but I'm a sucker for recontextualizing the Bo Diddley beat.
I passed on both of those, but "China My China" was a late cut. I tried to make room for a wider range of things than I usually do in polls.

way too low for blank frank, the messenger of your doom and your destruction! he has scared me on a number of occasions.
― La Lechera, Thursday, 10 July 2014 16:21 (ten years ago) link
Everything about Blank Frank is amazing. Think my favourite moment is the guitar exploding at the 55 second mark. It is one of those songs that's just full of amazing moments though.
These Roxy Music songs are all way too low, but I guess some people didn't want to vote for their stuff in an Eno poll. I gave points to all three of their songs that have placed so far.

having clapped "blank frank"'s bo diddley beat live as part of a clapping choir, i can report it's really hard to stay with it when the beat turns around every other verse, and also really fun.
and yes way too low. but i didn't vote, so there.

on my one (half-tab) acid trip c.'82 someone put Evening Star on at dusk and sure enough there was an evening star! actually it was real bright so probably a planet. earlier we sat in a pagoda listening to Day Of Radiance…
so many people have listened to Eno's music while asleep I wonder if it has an additional subconscious resonance (burned into memory?) for them/us.

Puzzled that "China My China" is so low (it was my #1). I don't know how to gauge how problematic/of-its-time the orientalism is, but regardless the way that big reverbed guitar (Manzanera's, I think?) comes in with the post-typewriter key change and repeats that bent note figure before scuttering off into dissipated feedback takes the song into the stratosphere, a place where two sonic worlds join as one — it's one of the most joyous things I've ever experienced in recorded music.
― eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Thursday, 10 July 2014 17:19 (ten years ago) link
Roxy in this poll is like Stevie Wonder in the Motown poll - too low and yet shouldn't be any higher if that makes any sense.

My favorite Bush of Ghosts track on side 1. There's a story about how Fripp helped "arrange" this (perhaps around the keyboard solo which sounds very Fripp-ish) but I don't recall it.
