once in a while I go through their whole discography and start thinking they're the best rock band ever

Wasn't crazy about the first advance single, but I like this! Excited for the new record now.

Yup, same reaction here re: "Get Right" vs. this new one.

I have decided that Futures is my favorite JEW album. Integrity Blues has higher highs but also 3-4 tracks I have no use for.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 17 April 2017 17:21 (seven years ago) link
fav overall?
― Spottie, Monday, 17 April 2017 17:27 (seven years ago) link
clarity will basically never be supplanted as my fav, but integrity is prob my second favorite jew album at this point. it's def their dreamiest
for some reason i have found myself in a lot of conversations about this band lately (i didn't even bring them up!)
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Monday, 17 April 2017 17:39 (seven years ago) link
I will say that Integrity Blues' title track almost made me tear up on the train a few days ago
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 17 April 2017 18:21 (seven years ago) link
I think if "Disintegration" and "Shame" made it to Futures it would have been more warmly received, somehow.
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 17 April 2017 18:34 (seven years ago) link
"shame" is so good, prob the least ponderous slow song from those sessions

yes lol
― american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 October 2019 02:36 (four years ago) link
also i'm very impressed by this record. thought it might be a straight-up pop-rock record like bleed american or chase this light, and it sort of is but with dark atmospheric pockets. the last two tracks are a moodshift you almost don't notice happening until it's happened

― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 18 October 2019 16:46 (four years ago) link
perfectly illustrates the melodramatic essence of the song while also being completely ridiculous. mad max tyrant contemplating personal failures
― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 18 October 2019 16:47 (four years ago) link
yea it works!
this album is really slick, the songs are there. kinda wish the mix had room to breathe a little but ive felt that way since chase the light.
whole album is very listenable though. back half of the closing track is very ji\m/\m/y eat world.

this is so good, glad i decided to check it out after seeing a headline about davey havok guesting on a song (which is still sick, but the whole album is great)

if y'all like livestreams they're doing three over the next few months, each covering a different album in their discog. first was tonight, playing surviving, and it fucking whipped ass, and even though it's over you apparently can buy tickets afterward to watch it on demand https://www.jimmyeatworldlive.com/

really good discussion of recording surviving, including a story about justin meldal-johnsen driving down hollywood blvd. blasting ratt's out of the cellar and throwing the devil horns
