yeah that mark barrot album is so damn great. kinda funny that as of 2012 he was making albums with subtitles like "music for mind, body & pilates"

Paul from Test Pressing has been posting DJ mixes from the 80s taken from a load of cassettes that Leo Mas gave him. The Oakenfold and Ricardo ones are stellar:

The Paqua album dropped yesterday too but I haven't heard it yet.

it's nice (if sometimes verging (pleasantly) on corny) -- appreciate the guitar licks all over the place

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 20 June 2014 11:27 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I've got it now. Not quite as good as I was hoping

Looking forward to this though:

i had to give myself some time to decide how good the young marco lp is, and i've decided that it's very, very good. in the few weeks it has gone from pleasant and unassuming to my favorite album of the year so far. despite the initial feeling that it's simple, it really is a grower. it feels very unified, but each time the next track starts i'm surprised by how different it is from the previous, and every track is a highlight. i think it's quite perfect.

nap time, my time (karl...arlk...rlka...lkar...), Monday, 7 July 2014 20:52 (eleven years ago)

^ hoping to reach the same conclusion. liking it a LOT so far, but i've yet to make the kind of connection i've made with his other mixes/productions for w/e reason. definitely no sense of disappointment whatsoever, i just think i've been listening to it in the wrong settings

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Monday, 7 July 2014 21:38 (eleven years ago)

i'm at where psychgawsple is at but i don't think i've listened to it enough yet and i'm very happy with it when i do

lex pretend, Monday, 7 July 2014 21:54 (eleven years ago)

It certainly starts 'pleasant and unassuming' but then kicks into gear big time... great first listen last night.

skip, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 14:42 (eleven years ago)

Just on first spin of Young Marco now. Very 'sceneries not songs' as previously mentioned. Some of this incredibly beautiful stuff. 'Trippy isolator' just now, woah. Timeless stuff.

Barry Gordy (Neil S), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 13:57 (eleven years ago)

love sketches from an island so much i seriously considered paying 30 pounds + shipping for the t-shirt

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 17:06 (eleven years ago)

^ the 'birds of paradise' one was super sick but it sold out like right away :(((

dude (Lamp), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 18:30 (eleven years ago)

it was in my cart for a brief moment, but jfc @ that price

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 18:46 (eleven years ago)

beautiful cover though

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 18:47 (eleven years ago)

a hundred pounds for the two t-shirts + a sweatshirt was justifiable to me although attempting to defend it now on a messageboard i cant remember why it seemed so reasonable

dude (Lamp), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 18:50 (eleven years ago)

lol i understand the impulse, i wouldn't wear a lot of things on a t-shirt but totally down to rep ifeel

hug niceman (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 19:08 (eleven years ago)

fwiw i have never regretted spending a ton of money on my Studio t-shirt.

Echoing the adulation for the Young Marco album.

boxedjoy, Thursday, 17 July 2014 19:49 (eleven years ago)

Here to do the same. Found it on Spotify yesterday and just completed my 5th time through. So good. Need this on vinyl immediately.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 17 July 2014 21:51 (eleven years ago)

Last track on the Mark Barrott beats in space mix really caught me unawares, even Tim S let it fade out w/o the obligatory chat. Lump in the throat stuff. Obv a check of the track list shows it's Sacred Islands, the closer to his album. Instant classic for me.

ewar woowar (or something), Thursday, 17 July 2014 22:18 (eleven years ago)

that mark barrott album is so great! "dr nimm's garden of intrigue & delight" >>>>>>

agh my copy doesn't have this :(

Only got the chance to listen to half the Mark Barrott album this morning but 'Deep Water' is incredible, it's like the intro to Halcyon + On + On stretched out over six minutes.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2014 08:47 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, I think it's CD/vinyl only unless you got a digital copy from iTunes

groovypanda, Friday, 18 July 2014 09:55 (eleven years ago)

Cheers groovypanda!

Debut album from Manchester's Horsebeach is out next week and the bits I've heard sound really good. Kind of a Durutti Column/Studio in post punk mode
flavour to some of the tracks

loving those, but it might need to get shelved until september, def more autumnal vibes than summery

°ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Monday, 21 July 2014 12:46 (eleven years ago)

The whole album is streaming on Soundcloud now. This track's ace:

Damn, this Horsebeach is hitting all of my pleasure zones. Thanks for the tip.

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 21 July 2014 16:40 (eleven years ago)

Yep, love this so much I just pre-ordered the LP. I could listen to this sound all day (and today, I think I will).

brotherlovesdub, Monday, 21 July 2014 17:49 (eleven years ago)

incredible stuff but i agree with gr80 on the autumnal vibe

"its like if the band Real Estate were simultaneously more beach AND more gothy" -- me describing horsebeach to a friend

It's not really dance-y, but the new Roisin Murphy mini-lp of Italian covers is super chill and was partially recorded in Ibiza. Recommended. Maybe on more of a sebastien tellier trip but man it's good.

brimstead, Tuesday, 16 September 2014 19:19 (eleven years ago)

horsebeach type stuff is prob as "indie" as my listening habits get these days, i kinda prefer the embassy to horsebeach but they're both better than the crepes
