Hm. I wasn't too interested in this "lost" record, but it's excellent. Interesting how good it all sounds after so long.

I'm glad this is out there but it's weird no one's talking about the ethical aspects of its release. I got into an argument with a Pitchfork writer on Twitter who was criticizing RDJ for "forcing" fans to pay thousands of dollars for this instead of, I guess, putting it out for free or normal purchase when it became clear that it was going to be made available anyways. Which I think is a weird criticism, given that he didn't want this to come out in the first place and couldn't really be said to be "forcing" anyone to do anything.

It's also difficult to untangle fact and fiction as usual...

yeah, I don't have any legitimate doubts, it's just a very strange way for a record to be released. more like a funny feeling I can't shake compounded by the whole 'RDJ constantly making stuff up for ~20 years' thing

A couple of those Caustic Window tracks have been released before, no? I have "Cunt" on a comp I bought in 1994, and the version on that Youtube playlist is the same one (and it still sounds as awful as it did 20 years ago). I guess the rest of the tracks could still be fake, though...

There's a number of drum parts, synth settings and melodic styles that are absolute classic RDJ trademarks circa 1990-1994 on this. Also the two comp tracks. If these are fake, then this whole board is fake; each thread produced by some form of music nerd AI. Nothing to see here.

This isn't the first time he's been accused of being in on a hoax. It reminds me of the Black Devil Disco Club reissue from a few years ago. I'm thinking it was actually wise not to release this in 1994 because it really does sound super similar to a lot of stuff he was doing at the time. Though releasing under Caustic Window probably would have alleviated a lot of that
