Actually kind of surprised "Watch for the Hook" didn't place. I thought that was regarded as an all-time great posse cut, and Dre and Big Boi have pretty awesome verses on it.

intheblanks, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:58 (ten years ago) link

I didn't vote for it, but I was also surprised that "The Whole World" didn't end up somewhere on this list.

intheblanks, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:59 (ten years ago) link

yeah i'm curious where non-placing singles like Whole World, Watch For The Hook, Roses, everything from Idlewild, etc. placed.

Thanks for running this poll Spottie. I feel eternally late to the party on ilx these days but jamming along to this has made my week incredibly fun.

Snappin & Trappin was robbed though.

Hey some dude, did you not feel the need to vote for spottieottie or do you legit not like the song?

Strictly EZ Snappin' Nhex (Spottie), Friday, 27 June 2014 16:41 (nine years ago) link

don't really care for it. don't much like any of their stuff that isn't straight up rap.

some dude, Friday, 27 June 2014 17:57 (nine years ago) link

Understood. Spoken word kiiiiinda close enough tho.

Strictly EZ Snappin' Nhex (Spottie), Friday, 27 June 2014 18:17 (nine years ago) link

yeah it's obv not "Hey Ya!" or anything but in general i don't really care about the meandering funk homage stuff like "Stankonia (Stanklove)" either.

some dude, Friday, 27 June 2014 18:26 (nine years ago) link

god I hate the AVClub

crafting ultra-lyrical tracks on the back of P-Funk sampling beats.

Outkast has never sampled P-Funk.

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

Can we do one of these for Geto Boys/Bushwick/Scarface/Willie D tracks?

get in line

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 18:02 (nine years ago) link

oh right, you guys actually queue for privilege on this stuff; i forgot there were dark machinations at work

Not sure we could get enough participation on that one. Most of the goons don't do polls.

Strictly EZ Snappin' Nhex (Spottie), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 18:10 (nine years ago) link

the diametric opposite of traditional rap: vulnerable, expressive, and willing to explore new things.

These were the kind of questions that The Love Below brought about—questions about what constituted “real rap,” and whether emotionality and exploration could exist within that conception.

Y'all tellin' me that I need to get out and vote, huh. Why?

some dude, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 18:19 (nine years ago) link
