It was like a greatest hits but with just insane hyper mixing, endlessly splicing tunes and creating awesome miniature bootlegs: "Do You Really Like It" over Paul Johnson's "Get Down", Dizzee's "Stand Up Tall" over "Rip Groove", etc.

And so many awesome 2-step and jackin' tunes. Probably the only tune he let play out in full (because he needed to go the toilet I think) was Lorenzo, Ko Kane and Zanetti's "Darlin", which sounded totally amazing (as did "Smoke Machine", "Kneadin", "Testosterone Deficiency"...).

ahhhhhhh

when I saw him in Brixton for his Boiler Room set it sounds like it was similar, MUCH faster mixing than he does on the radio, lots of rewinds, etc.

Tracer I remember when he filmed that bit but I was a bit further back at that point.

Crowd was really packed and really into it. I think the only tune I remember stopping the dancefloor dead (except me) was US Alliance's "All I Know (Da Grunge Dub)" - I don't think anyone there had heard anything like it...

I know that the selections largely overlap with DJ Q but there's something about the way T&N deploys them that feels slightly different. Maybe it's slightly slower? There's a chunky, spiky deliberateness to it all. I'd almost call him the Sami Koivikko of interzone.

Also "It Ain't Even About The Dough" is one of the tunes of the year.

Not heard much DJ Q other than on the Tropical mixes, but this is a lovely little record. Big LOL at the shouty blokey song though. Massive derail, but somehow it's kind of endearing.

'Trust Again' is the most immediate tune for me (that'll probably all change on further listens). I love how sparse and unfussy some of the production is - that little violin line that comes in during the song as though it's played with one hand on a cheap Casio, for example. I think in anyone else's hands, they'd be tempted to embellish it with a harmony or at least some sort of effect, but the fact it's so plain sounding doesn't detract at all from the track, in fact it helps it.

yet another example of that extraordinary kaleidoscopic facility for using, abusing, juxtaposing any and every available vocal strategy to make his sets freak which is such a huge maybe under-appreciated aspect of what elevates q to the ineff plain... ukg was always omnivorous, bassline made it in-your-face, q fuses it all into one

and then the clean and perfect baton handoff from ldr to fcl so absurdly simple like it was always there

btw 2, all i was saying that about vocals is why 'lassie' is the most agent cut on ineffable - agree with the idea that it should have been another 'me and my bitch' but discarda (forever lame) didn't cotton on in the end sadly

there's moments like this in every set but i recently stuck the february one on again and literally just ended up spending an entire spellbound commute rewinding over and over and over the bit where ruffneck stylo g and ballerina kiesza's worlds intertwine.... ~UR JUST A FEELING~

Not a Q mix but this sorta thing always reminds me of your description of the bit in Tropical 2 where the Preditah tune is suddenly seized by anxiety as it witnesses the unstoppable eruption of Royal T's "Cool Down".

oh yeah the tropicals are the absolute best/worst for that malarkey
