'Mudhoney' is the first one I heard and it blew me away. There is a couple of better songs on the Superfuzz Bigmuff, but I got to go with the self titled one.
After the first two, I think 'Tomorrow Hit Today' is the best one. That one is really consistent and they seemed to let some of the songs jam out a bit more. EGBDF is pretty good, but back then I thought it was kind of samey after the first two. There are some good tunes on the two in between, but there are also a couple of jokey things that make me hit the next button on them.
The comp 'March to Fuzz' is excellent. The first disc hits everything hot and the bonus disc of odd and rare stuff is really fun. If you are a fan, it is worth picking up for that second disc and the fact that the first disc sounds remastered compared to the early CDs. The Best of the BBC collection is also really good if you are a Mudhoney fan.

Voted Superfuzz by a nose, but I'm really loving the new one too!

I really dig that Fang cover (The Money Will Roll Right In) on their Best Of/Rarities album. Don't remember what it was originally on.
― circa1916, Sunday, 18 May 2008 08:37 (eighteen years ago)
"The Money Will Roll Right In" was originally a "Let It Slide" b-side. One of the best covers the band ever did, so low and greasy and evil-sounding. Motorhead's "Over the Top" = another excellent cover from about the same time - 1st appeared as a "Suck You Dry" b-side. One of the nice things about that March to Fuzz collection is how damn comprehensive it is. A lot of Mudhoney's best tunes appeared in the margins of their discography. "Brand New Face" only ever showed up as a Tommorow Hit Today b-side, and it's one of my favorite songs from that album/era.
Agree w/ earlnash & others about the late-arriving greatness of Tomorrow Hit Today. Only recent Mudhoney album I'd have a hard time parting with.

I'm curious about this since I'd always loved Soundgarden and The Melvins, but had a weird Mudhoney blindspot… A pal won tickets to see them back in high school, then at the last minute decided he didn't want to see them and since he had a car and I didn't, I couldn't see them either. He was happy just to let the tickets go to waste.
Fuck you, Mike.

― Zeno, Monday, 26 May 2008 07:09 (eighteen years ago)
Would've loved to see the Superfuzzbigmuff live gig they did.
― Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 26 May 2008 13:39 (eighteen years ago)
IMO there were better singles off of Superfuzz, the s/t, and Piece of Cake, but as far as a cohesive album, it's Every Good Boy over Tomorrow Hit Today by a hair.
― MC, Monday, 26 May 2008 17:25 (eighteen years ago)
I wonder if this is going to be one of those polls where noone votes the obvious choice thinking loads of others will and ends up in a how the fuck did that win poll.

― jhøshea, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 00:26 (eighteen years ago)
i think i still like the s/t one best
"After the first two, I think 'Tomorrow Hit Today' is the best one."
I strongly agree.

I'm surprised it only got 1 vote and my brother the cow got 3.

these were pretty good results, i think the lucky ones might get another vote or two if it was held again.

― Cristal Kieslowski (admrl), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 19:59 (fifteen years ago)
Was there ever like a Mudhoney Greatest Hits? Because I would buy that.
― Cristal Kieslowski (admrl), Wednesday, 15 December 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, well sort-of, there was the 2-disc March To Fuzz, where the first disc was as close to a greatest hits as they would get (pre-2000 anyway) and the second disc is rarities and b-sides.

Heard the new Mudhoney song driving into work this morning and it sounds like Mark Arm doing an impersonation VOM-era Richard Meltzer. Not that that is a bad thing.
― chr1sb3singer, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)
I saw 'em in Toronto in '91 and Mark spent the whole show pretending they were Rush! He'd go like "Are you ready...for 'The Spirit of Radio!'" and they'd play "This Gift", then "this is about the Priests...of the Temples of Syrinx!" and they'd go into "Touch Me I'm Sick". Fun show.

haha awesome
my favorite Mudhoney record, weirdly, may be Five Dollar Bob's Mock Cooter Stew

Has anybody seen them live recently who can report?
― maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 15:18 (eleven years ago)
No, but two of my friends have and from their reports it was great - met one right after the show and he was ecstatic, praising grunge as genre etc.
― niels, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 15:26 (eleven years ago)
Really? haha
― maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 15:34 (eleven years ago)
I saw 'em last year and they were great.
Granted I'd never seen them before so I don't any basis for historical comparison but I certainly wasn't disappointed.
― Birds in Hell, Thursday, 11 June 2015 01:00 (ten years ago)
For the sake of this long-completed poll, my vote's for Piece of Cake.
The band (and some fans) seem down on it for some reason, I think it's fab.

One great thing about Thanksgiving is listening to forgotten treasures from the attic...
Side 2 of "Superfuzz BigMuff" is absolutely perfect: "No One Has" -> "If I Think" -> "In n Out Of Grace"
They may eventually be lost to time but they were perhaps the greatest band on earth at some point.

Goddamn Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge is so so good. Excise some of the not as good harmonica songs and it'd be damn near perfect.
― Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 19 January 2023 17:59 (three years ago)
New album is another good one, actually might be a step up over the last couple. Impressive how remarkably consistent they've managed to stay.
― Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 25 April 2023 18:55 (three years ago)
Yeah, I was really impressed. There's some filler but Mudhoney filler is usually still pretty good.
