also posting this here super prematurely (it has under 300 views) but it sounds like an obvious smash IMO, if radio catches it

this seems like something you bros would have opinions onhttp://noisey.vice.com/blog/troy-ave-rap-game-george-w-bush
― festival culture (Jordan), Friday, 30 May 2014 00:46 (twelve years ago)
as a sorta fan of troy ave i can't really be mad at that article, i mean...a lot of what he's saying is right, though he left out in the talk about the stuff wrt weirdo rappers and their shorts is the really nasty homophobia that unfortunately has been pretty traditional in hip hop but is usually worst with NYC street dudes like this.
that said, the george bush thing seems a bit MUCH...and honestly i mean rappers talking out of their ass about how great they are and how they are starting some "movement" is so typical as to be not that big of a deal to me....
but yeah i dug the one troy ave album, it was comfort food NYC shit but there's nothing inherently wrong with that any more than it's wrong that people still perform blues or folk music or punk rock or w/e, if they have good songs and beats i don't really care
though i also think that rap is sort of slowing down, the huge revolutions aren't ever going to come every few years like they did in the early part of the music, and that's natural...
― dollar rave club (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 30 May 2014 01:12 (twelve years ago)
the only thing i found really objectionable was the end where he was trying to hold up the A$APs and French Montana as an example of NYers who don't trade on nostalgia for earlier generations of NY rap. A$AP Mob's last big video was a totally '90s homage featuring Method Man. and French Montana recently redid 2 Biggie hooks on Rick Ross's album and his most high profile verse at the moment, on Chris Brown's single, is almost entirely cobbled together from old bars by Ma$e and Biggie and Jay-Z.
― ςὖτ ιτ Οὖτ (some dude), Friday, 30 May 2014 01:34 (twelve years ago)
He also reps for dudes like mayhem lauren and exquire who aren't any less indebted to hip hop history than troy ave is ... not wild about that article also just bc it feels like unnecessary grandstanding, not rlly sure what he's trying to prove?
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 30 May 2014 01:57 (twelve years ago)
Yeah when he mentioned Mayhem esp I thought we are on some serious hair splitting

― °ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Friday, 30 May 2014 20:35 (twelve years ago)
have rap bros been in to the isaiah rashad EP?
― °ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Friday, 30 May 2014 20:36 (twelve years ago)
in a similar way my fav joint from the sage album is maybe the most minor: 'don't you'
― out here like a flopson (tpp), Friday, 30 May 2014 20:38 (twelve years ago)
'dont you' is great.
havent given too much time to that Isaiaha Rashad but I liked what I heard
― Spottie, Friday, 30 May 2014 20:43 (twelve years ago)
I'm still warming up to the Iamsu album. I rejected it at first because it didn't sound like Million Dollar Afro, but it's got some jams. I like "The Weather," which is a bonus track and "Problems" is definitely a highlight
― voodoo chili, Friday, 30 May 2014 20:44 (twelve years ago)
The Isaiah Rashad record is great. One of those records where the tracks work a lot better on the record than they do individually.
― voodoo chili, Friday, 30 May 2014 20:46 (twelve years ago)
I like this one http://youtu.be/TfRFuHfpngQ has that soulaquarians sound

For those into bay mob stuff Ive been feeling these two Joe Blow releases (both on spotify, both in my playlist) from this year 'Mob 2 The Real Mob' and 'True Story'. True Story is really good.

the Iamsu is my current candidate for album of the summer, favorite rap album of the year so far really. there's some weaker songs and "I Love My Squad" is terrible but overall really good. underrated production crew too.
"What You 'Bout" is probably my fave although this is the second time an album I'm interested in hearing this year has had a crappy Wiz Khalifa verse, this needs to be addressed
― nova, Friday, 30 May 2014 23:26 (twelve years ago)
iamsu album really surprised me, really warm relaxed vibe and varied production, his personality comes across more than it did on all the big features
― ςὖτ ιτ Οὖτ (some dude), Saturday, 31 May 2014 00:05 (twelve years ago)
still waiting for it to grab me.

I've been into the Iamsu! album, good for riding around in the sun. The beat on "Green Light" is totally insane
