i like that, she's angry and showing it
― lex pretend, Saturday, 3 May 2014 19:27 (twelve years ago)
lmao this chorus is deading me
nicki wildin out aggressively in all manner of outre get-ups, soulja doing the crossword in the other room
― r|t|c, Saturday, 3 May 2014 19:36 (twelve years ago)
that's nice dear, that's nice dear
SERIOUS RAP peter rosenberg shit has always been in her head from the beginning tbf, regardless of current strategy
― r|t|c, Saturday, 3 May 2014 19:39 (twelve years ago)
Lol lex ur so random I praised the chorus because ppl were hating on it not because it was a "male guest" smh
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Saturday, 3 May 2014 19:57 (twelve years ago)
i think even the best rapping ass rap nicki minaj songs have a sort of gleeful bounce to them. thinking of like her "donk" freestyle or "wave ya hand" or "stupid hoe" or "did it on em" or "beez in the trap" or "the boys" or "roman's revenge". that's what i really loved about he "boss ass bitch" freestyle but these last tracks are like dirges.
i mean she's still rapping her ass off but it's almost like the SERIOUS RAP peter rosenberg shit has gotten into her head a bit as far as the production goes

this is otm, "Boss Ass Bitch" is the only one of the new ones i particularly care for. although i'm holding out hope that whatever Mustard is doing for her project lives up to the potential of that pairing.
― some dude, Saturday, 3 May 2014 22:58 (twelve years ago)
i really like "lookin ass" a lot, not hugely into these other ones yet but still anticipating this

The rapper unveiled the title on the red carpet of the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 18), where she introduced Lorde's performance of "Tennis Court." Minaj also described the sound of "Pills N Potions," which precedes her third album "The Pinkprint," to Billboard's Keith Caulfield."It sounds like urgency," says Minaj. "It sounds like betrayal. It sounds like running. It sounds like fainting. It sounds like love. It sounds like -- *gasp!*"

...but it looks like a coffee shop singer-songwriter debut with color, fonts and border selected from a set of default templates.

ugh no nicki i did NOT want another "your love" ;_;

WHY NICKI WHY
the thing is, everyone remembers "Super Bass," but Pink Friday was huge before that off of 3 singles that basically sounded like this, so I'm not surprised, prob a smart move
― ςὖτιe (some dude), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 11:59 (twelve years ago)
i kind of like this but it's weirdly muted. if she was gonna go pop i think i'd rather hear another "starships"
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 13:04 (twelve years ago)
yeah i have nothing against pop nicki in the vein of "starships" and "pound the alarm" but i have everything against watery nothingy "your love" nicki WHO THE FUCK IS HERE FOR THAT
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:07 (twelve years ago)
this is basically the mushy last three-fourths of _roman reloaded_ again, right? weird how in 2014 that's the most immediately commercially salvageable part of that album
― katherine, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 16:25 (twelve years ago)
This makes me think of "Roar" for some reason.
― Greer, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 16:31 (twelve years ago)
Song is like if the verses from "Freedom" collided with the chorus from "Your Love".
― Greer, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 16:32 (twelve years ago)
I never got the "Your Love" hate but this is my favorite version:

I don't hate this - I found it enjoyable, actually - but it's disappointing to me in the same way most of that Angel Haze album was.
Still confident the album will deliver some firebreathing stuff.
― ginuwine's cousin (monotony), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 20:16 (twelve years ago)
way more confident that the Wayne album will end up good than this tbh. Mostly cuz he's bounced back in the last year or so while Nicki Minaj is doing the usual Nicki Minaj
― nova, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 20:18 (twelve years ago)
truth be told Nicki's whole output has only been about as consistently good as the worst years of Wayne's career
― ςὖτ ιτ Οὖτ (some dude), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 20:25 (twelve years ago)
Too far.
― Greer, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:11 (twelve years ago)
cmon you dont believe that. 'come on a cone' nicki era >>>> several years of wayne's career

this is more or less true
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:12 (twelve years ago)
her last album is clearly better than tha carter IV, that's about all she has
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:13 (twelve years ago)
that's crazy. wayne had like 2 years where the spectrum was 'awful' to 'passable' hovering mostly near the former. nicki over the same stretch was 'passable' to 'awesome' hovering mostly near the latter
― Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:13 (twelve years ago)
the x-factor is that wayne's features were often change-the-radio-station bad during that whole period
― Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:14 (twelve years ago)
I would dispute that her last album was better than C4 (or a lot of things) but then my non-Wayne Young Money interest is pretty limited, select Drake/Nicki songs/features aside. actually prefer hearing random Jae Millz/Mack Maine/Euro nevergonnabes spit solid verses on Wayne mixtapes to a lot of their material
― nova, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:19 (twelve years ago)

so is 'pills' a tie-in with the beats speaker

― maura, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:21 (twelve years ago)
lol
"wayne had like 2 years where the spectrum was 'awful' to 'passable'"
2012-first half of 2013? Think that Jeremih guest verse was where he bottomed out
― nova, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:24 (twelve years ago)
his last mixtape was 95% trash
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:40 (twelve years ago)
nah
I mean even disregarding that it's a massive improvement on D4 think it was pretty solid
― nova, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:41 (twelve years ago)
people always just name a Nicki song they love to handwave the dozens they would never voluntarily listen to, i'm talking about song-for-song consistency
― ςὖτ ιτ Οὖτ (some dude), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:46 (twelve years ago)
There are more Nicki songs I would willingly listen to from the last 2 years than there are Wayne songs I'd do the same with.
― Greer, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 22:31 (twelve years ago)
Champion off the last one was p cool actually. sorta Moment 4 Life-ish, same producer though so makes sense
also liked Right by My Side although seems like most people don't
― nova, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 22:34 (twelve years ago)
"i am not a human being 2" is more consistent than any nicki album.
― sisilafami, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 23:54 (twelve years ago)
yeah, not sure even I'd go that far
― nova, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 23:58 (twelve years ago)
Is "pills and Potions" supposed to be Nicki tryna be like Lorde?
― veronica moser, Thursday, 26 June 2014 00:20 (eleven years ago)
haha that seems plausible
― some dude, Thursday, 26 June 2014 00:21 (eleven years ago)
well I had heard the song many times and it didn't rilly make an impression, but the video I saw on VH1soul is all moody Nicki, no glam, etc etc.
― veronica moser, Thursday, 26 June 2014 00:25 (eleven years ago)
it's still pretty lol to me that she described pills & potions as sounding "like urgency" before it was released when...there was so much more urgency in those buzz songs she put out beforehand
i like the percussion on this song - as far as sia-style songs go it's better than most. and the video is cute. but yeah obv she can do much better.
