Love "Turn It On" but it was one of the DMO rockers I omitted in favor of "It's Enough" and "Not What You Want." All so good, tho.

Incredible song, right here
― voodoo chili, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:19 (twelve years ago)
first SK song i ever heard, totally bewildered and enchanted me, wasn't like anything i'd ever heard. still makes me catch my breath every time the 'fast' part starts.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:21 (twelve years ago)
Ditto. Fucking love this; on first listen, THR had its hooks in me from "Start Together," but hearing this, I knew it was one of those songs that would be in my life for a very long time.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:23 (twelve years ago)
My #1, and no question about it. The subtle "oooohs" in the chorus (and as I still remember from one of his posts, josh blog noting how even the clapping is so focused and determined), Corin cranking up the insane desperation in her typically awesome vocals, the way she whispers before exploding at the end, this song always makes me tear up and always gets me on the knife's edge of living.

I've got some errands to run before my follow-up doctor (B is for Brownstein) appointment. So, shall we reconvene for the final 7 this evening?
― Damnit Janet Weiss & The Riot Grrriel (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:34 (twelve years ago)
aww, I was hoping for top 5 with Good Things.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:37 (twelve years ago)
I was one of the #1s for Turn It On. Their best, easy.
Dance Song '97 was also a top 5 for me.
― kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:46 (twelve years ago)
I hate that I didn't see this in time to vote. Thanks for doing it though, I've been jamming s-k all day. Also lol I wanted to show my mate this and clicked on the next youtube to send her... and she was the one to post it! This band is the best.

now I'm in that space where I'm nervous for the songs on my ballot that haven't showed. surely there's still two songs from one beat that will appear???
― reddening, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:34 (twelve years ago)
I can think of 5 likely songs:
Dig Me OutGet UpWords and GuitarI Wanna Be Your Thurston Mary TimonyOh!??????
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:49 (twelve years ago)
Start Together is surely going to make it too.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:51 (twelve years ago)
One More Hour as well.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:52 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, I feel like one more hour might take it all, but it's a tough competition for the top spot
― good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:58 (twelve years ago)
Which Dig Me Out songs will actually miss out? I can only think of Buy Me Candy.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:03 (twelve years ago)
"Things You Say" probably not placing, either.
Also, looks like only two songs from The Woods will miss the cut.
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:09 (twelve years ago)
Things you say made the poll, somewhere in the 40s I think
― good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:14 (twelve years ago)
I think buy her candy is the only one likely to miss out, unless it's a surprise top 10 smash
I wanted to vote for buy me candy, I love it, but ughh only 20 slots!!
― reddening, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:15 (twelve years ago)
I voted for it, but I'm not expecting to see it.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:23 (twelve years ago)
man looking at Leee's list there's just no way "hollywood ending" makes it. but if "oh!" doesn't make it i'll riot.
― reddening, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:43 (twelve years ago)
can't imagine 'oh!' doesn't make it though wow didn't think it'd be this high.

listening to all the DMO tracks now, this was absolutely the album with the most ferocious drumming, right?

impressive that at 31 ballots in, the highest vote count so far is still only 19.
and no track listed has had more than one #1 vote i think?

TBH I cringe a little bit at the live version of Joey R., Carrie's screams in the chorus are mixed just right on the record but a little hmm too mannered in concert.
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 23:39 (twelve years ago)

I'd like to take a moment before presenting the Top 5 to point out that at one time or another each of these songs was #1, and it wasn't until the last ballots that anything was set.

Brilliant song. The Hot Rock was my favourite Sleater-Kinney album at first just because the first and last song are my two favourite songs of theirs.
― Kitchen Person, Thursday, 1 May 2014 00:14 (twelve years ago)
I remember popping this into the CD player for the first time and saying, "OK, can you guys top Dig Me Out like I'm unfairly expected you to?" Was very pleased to immediately hear a resounding YES in the form of this song.
