can totally see Don 'n' Glenn getting heckled by SK and fans at a show.

The first Sleater-Kinney song I ever heard. I'm surprised to see it miss the top ten.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 17:13 (twelve years ago)
My #1! Truly the song that made me a fan.

"You're No Rock n' Roll Fun" and "All Hands On The Bad One" were the songs that turned me off the band for a while after The Hot Rock got me interested in them tbh
― some dude, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 17:38 (twelve years ago)
"You're No" was the only AHOTBO song to make my ballot.

OOOOH TOO LOW for "Call the Doctor" -- I had it at #2, and it's my #2 by a large margin. I'd never heard anything like it before -- not with lyrics about socialization, the weird vocal interplay, the vibrato in the lead singer's voice -- and then the explosion during the bridge -- Corin wailing, Carrie screaming -- made me an instant fan. So powerful.
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 17:47 (twelve years ago)
When I was getting into them I really didn't like the Call the Doctor album that much at all, the only song that stuck was the title track. The whole album has grown on me a lot but that song in particular has become one of my favourite songs of theirs. Such a brilliant opener.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 17:50 (twelve years ago)
"Dance Song '97" and its roller rink organ warmed to the band after the initial shock.
― guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 17:53 (twelve years ago)
I kind of always forget about Dance 97 as it's surrounded by such amazing songs that overshadow it a little bit.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 18:04 (twelve years ago)
it sounds like an awesome riff and chorus from obscure New Wave band stapled together
― guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 18:05 (twelve years ago)
Oh wow, I had no idea Dance Song 97 was this beloved.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 18:06 (twelve years ago)
it doesn't fit in on dmo when i think about what dmo is about, but if i go track by track its one of my favorites.
bouncy sk is the best, and i love the undercurrent of compulsion and dread. it has a "dance dance dance to the radio" quality.
― wat is teh waht (s.clover), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 18:21 (twelve years ago)
omg the the toms that kick in around 2:20 in the outro.
Me neither. Shocked that it placed this high. I dig it and everything, but it didn't make my ballot.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 18:22 (twelve years ago)
It was in the middle of my ballot, but I was expecting it to get totally overlooked.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 18:24 (twelve years ago)
i don't know if can explain very well why i like it so much but i had it pegged as my #1 from the outset and listening thru the catalog again confirmed it. man i love that song.

Love "Turn It On" but it was one of the DMO rockers I omitted in favor of "It's Enough" and "Not What You Want." All so good, tho.

first SK song i ever heard, totally bewildered and enchanted me, wasn't like anything i'd ever heard. still makes me catch my breath every time the 'fast' part starts.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:21 (twelve years ago)
Ditto. Fucking love this; on first listen, THR had its hooks in me from "Start Together," but hearing this, I knew it was one of those songs that would be in my life for a very long time.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:23 (twelve years ago)
My #1, and no question about it. The subtle "oooohs" in the chorus (and as I still remember from one of his posts, josh blog noting how even the clapping is so focused and determined), Corin cranking up the insane desperation in her typically awesome vocals, the way she whispers before exploding at the end, this song always makes me tear up and always gets me on the knife's edge of living.

aww, I was hoping for top 5 with Good Things.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 19:37 (twelve years ago)
I was one of the #1s for Turn It On. Their best, easy.
Dance Song '97 was also a top 5 for me.

I hate that I didn't see this in time to vote. Thanks for doing it though, I've been jamming s-k all day. Also lol I wanted to show my mate this and clicked on the next youtube to send her... and she was the one to post it! This band is the best.

now I'm in that space where I'm nervous for the songs on my ballot that haven't showed. surely there's still two songs from one beat that will appear???

I can think of 5 likely songs:
Dig Me OutGet UpWords and GuitarI Wanna Be Your Thurston Mary TimonyOh!??????
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:49 (twelve years ago)
Start Together is surely going to make it too.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:51 (twelve years ago)
One More Hour as well.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:52 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, I feel like one more hour might take it all, but it's a tough competition for the top spot
― good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 21:58 (twelve years ago)
Which Dig Me Out songs will actually miss out? I can only think of Buy Me Candy.
― Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:03 (twelve years ago)
"Things You Say" probably not placing, either.
Also, looks like only two songs from The Woods will miss the cut.
― Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:09 (twelve years ago)
Things you say made the poll, somewhere in the 40s I think
― good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:14 (twelve years ago)
I think buy her candy is the only one likely to miss out, unless it's a surprise top 10 smash
I wanted to vote for buy me candy, I love it, but ughh only 20 slots!!
― reddening, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:15 (twelve years ago)
I voted for it, but I'm not expecting to see it.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 30 April 2014 22:23 (twelve years ago)
man looking at Leee's list there's just no way "hollywood ending" makes it. but if "oh!" doesn't make it i'll riot.
