Feel like tracks from AHOTBO are making a really strong showing, given where it landed in the albums poll.

listening through s/t now, which is better than i remembered. its weird how raw the lyrics are. i tend to think of them as a more refined, sort of oblique band even, lyrically, and then you have lyrics like: "Sold out, do, do you wanna it / On a magazine cover? / Take it, it's my body / Take it, I want money / Diamonds are a girl's best friend"

I love that first 7", always thought they sounded a lot better on it than the subsequent 10"

I was given the 10" as a review copy when it came out and I don't think I panned it but it wasn't what I was expecting having seen the two previous bands. I should try and dig that review up tonight.

been listening to this on repeat. so great, so bouncy!

i remember "real man" was actually v. important to people i knew at the time. only 1000 ppl bought the debut 10" but all of them put "real man" on mixtapes for their queer friends?

Uh I bought it bt didn't tape it for friends cos they'd already got that message (andit's a bad song)? Can see it's imptce at that time in specific places tho, f'sure. I ws in NZ tho, was kinda a "hey others!" thing

Love "A Real Man", just narrowly missed my ballot. And yeah, it meant a lot to me. The s/t bangs pretty hard, and while there are some lowlights I think it's less spotty than a few of their albums. Plus it has their first stone-cold classic "Be Yr Mama", which I'm hoping shows up (but it's not looking too optimistic)

The opening drums! The new "Be My Baby" for the 21st century! I find it intensely sensual.

Anyone else think Corin sounds a lot like Geddy Lee on the opening lines of this?

Also, I'll have to listen to "Oh!" more carefully to peep the "BMB" quotations.

The only Woods song I did vote for. Didn't even consider any of the other songs.

I'm sure someone already pointed out how great their title tracks are. One Beat is one of the best.

Also, their lead-off tracks. There's still plenty of poll left, but my guess is all but one of the post-S/T openers made the top 27 of this poll.

One of the last songs I cut from my list. That was one of my favourites the first time I played Dig Me Out but other songs have overtaken it since.

I had the realization the other day that "Step Aside" is what High Time-era MC5 would've sounded like if they'd been female.

first track i heard from one beat, i can remember driving around in the country outside of athens listening to wuog when it was still on the air and this just coming on out of nowhere and rocking my fucking world. easily my fave s-k in that pop anthem mode. RIGHTEOUS.

Actually thinking about the great moments in "Step Aside" -- the C&R sections, the whoo-ooh-oohs, the na-na-na-na-nana nanana outro -- makes me not so butthurd.

Wow, never heard it like that before...that's totally OTMFM.

Also, the horn parts seem to echo/mimic those in the Who's "The Real Me."

I'll take that as an endorsement to listen to the MC5.
