Are Drake and Sarge up on Snootie Wild? This seems to be the type of thing the So Many Shrimp boyz would post about

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 17 April 2014 01:29 (twelve years ago)

i remember me and sarge both randomly heard it for the first time the same night a few months ago and liked it a lot. i thought it had already kinda missed its shot at hitting big before it started charting recently.

posi riot (some dude), Thursday, 17 April 2014 02:26 (twelve years ago)

noz's line about it being "a Kevin Gates record with the intelligence of a Rich Homie Quan record" was pretty otm though

posi riot (some dude), Thursday, 17 April 2014 02:27 (twelve years ago)

haha

yeah that record is cool but i think they screwed up by putting yo gotti on it, he doesn't really fit at all

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 17 April 2014 02:50 (twelve years ago)

IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Thursday, 17 April 2014 14:53 (twelve years ago)

lol/smh @ someone getting a kevin gates hit before kevin gates

rap steve gadd (D-40), Thursday, 17 April 2014 15:25 (twelve years ago)

biters are so fast now they can bite before you even get a chance to have your own hit

rap steve gadd (D-40), Thursday, 17 April 2014 15:25 (twelve years ago)

Does KG even care about getting a hit?

IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Thursday, 17 April 2014 15:27 (twelve years ago)

he practically came out and said he doesn't on the new album. i don't know if Snootie is biting just for having a somewhat similar voice/delivery, though, any more than people were calling Gates a Future biter.

posi riot (some dude), Thursday, 17 April 2014 15:30 (twelve years ago)

Gates is probably content with underground hits like "Satellites," which got some airplay.

voodoo chili, Thursday, 17 April 2014 16:48 (twelve years ago)

when someone made a Vine of Elmo dancing to "Thinking With My Dick" i thought that song was on the verge of becoming a meme/hit

posi riot (some dude), Thursday, 17 April 2014 16:51 (twelve years ago)

gates had an extremely distinct style vs. future. and could also rap.

i don't think 'thinking with my dick' was ever about to get much radio play lol

rap steve gadd (D-40), Thursday, 17 April 2014 17:10 (twelve years ago)

anyway saying you aren't seeking a hit isn't the same as not wanting a hit

rap steve gadd (D-40), Thursday, 17 April 2014 17:10 (twelve years ago)

Even on his poppier tracks, Gates leans too heavily on the personal/emotional side to catch on with radio listeners who aren't necessarily trying to seek out the rest of his material and understand him as a person. I mean, Drake had to lead with "Best I Ever Had," those mixtapes, and the Young Money tracks before he could sell the introspective shit on Thank Me Now and Take Care.

voodoo chili, Thursday, 17 April 2014 17:19 (twelve years ago)

true xp

IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Thursday, 17 April 2014 17:21 (twelve years ago)

I know we're all saying DP doesn't hold up or w/e but the Evidence/Alchemist albums is one of the lowkey best rap albums of 2014

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 17 April 2014 19:57 (twelve years ago)

Good release in that low-key east-coast nu-bap vein. love the beat switch up on Swimteam Rastas.

BLEACHED BLONDE MOHAWK (is that even a mohawk?)

voodoo chili, Thursday, 17 April 2014 22:10 (twelve years ago)

i would be surprised if any other piece of music criticism on Fazoland had more views than that

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 18 April 2014 00:31 (twelve years ago)

maybe if the guy with the Not Ghostface Killah parody twitter reviews it

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 18 April 2014 20:36 (twelve years ago)

"In a lot of respects he's just as savage as his peers..."

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 18 April 2014 20:36 (twelve years ago)

just going to argue that straight up herb is not a better rapper than keef.

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 18 April 2014 20:37 (twelve years ago)

that's a terrible opinion

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 18 April 2014 20:46 (twelve years ago)

the good thing about herb is that he took the sound of drill and decided not to be hemiolaing all over it

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 18 April 2014 20:47 (twelve years ago)

was waiting for a hemiola stab

IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Friday, 18 April 2014 20:50 (twelve years ago)

whiney g fantano

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 18 April 2014 21:50 (twelve years ago)

i look at lyrics to tracks like 'savage' they are more economical w/ fewer wasted words, right to the point

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 18 April 2014 21:50 (twelve years ago)

they both serve to create different effects obv but i find one to be a more efficient use of language than the other

rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 18 April 2014 21:51 (twelve years ago)

lil herb will never make an album as good as finally rich, i feel confident in saying that

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 18 April 2014 21:58 (twelve years ago)

never been a backpacker but there's still street rappers I'll never "get" I guess

nova, Saturday, 19 April 2014 05:47 (twelve years ago)

fabioland was super bland and unmemorable to me. would rather listen to keef, though not cause i think he's more talented.

posi riot (some dude), Saturday, 19 April 2014 10:50 (twelve years ago)

Weird how non-enthused the reaction to Lil Herb is. The first 3 tracks or so are a bit dull, but really picks up after that. Who knows how he'll develop, maybe nowhere interesting, but it's still his first tape after all.

MikoMcha, Saturday, 19 April 2014 13:52 (twelve years ago)

Don't get me wrong, I'm enthused and like the tape. It sounds to me though like a talented kid who hasn't figured out exactly how he wants his art to sound or whose heart isn't fully in it yet to me.

I never said anything about who had more talent as if that's even quantifiable either, but keef has applied his in more effective ways so far, IMO
