I call a recount. The last minute of "Strobe Lights" should have gotten the song at least a few votes.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Friday, 11 April 2014 01:51 (twelve years ago)

Bo Jackson Overdrive polling this only a few months after it came out has always seemed like such an egregious overstep to me

We needed at least a year

, Friday, 11 April 2014 01:54 (twelve years ago)

Fuck, it wasn't even a few months.

It was 1 month

, Friday, 11 April 2014 01:54 (twelve years ago)

No votes for Strobe Lights v egregious yes

bone a wish (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 12 April 2014 20:35 (twelve years ago)

Same with Hate You Now tbh

bone a wish (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 12 April 2014 20:38 (twelve years ago)

"Ass on the Floor," "Shades" and "Yesterday" are the three I come back to most I think

album's spotty in parts IMO but has some good stuff for sure

nova, Saturday, 12 April 2014 21:13 (twelve years ago)

I used to think this but now to me it is pure gold, through and through.

Yesterday is probably the one track I'd consider leaving off

bone a wish (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 12 April 2014 21:38 (twelve years ago)

"Yesterday" has a cool hazy atmosphere that I dig

nova, Saturday, 12 April 2014 23:39 (twelve years ago)

six months pass...

i'd forgotten about "ass on the floor" and then it popped up on an old mix and dear lord. back in my jkbx review i said "I feel like I’m going to love this song five years from now, and that’s a sensation I haven’t felt in a while" and as it turns out i like it fifty times more now?? if you forced me to make a Best Songs of the Decade list it would probably end up at 1. just so good.

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Sunday, 12 October 2014 23:12 (eleven years ago)

yeah it is roughly the best song in the world

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 13 October 2014 04:19 (eleven years ago)

lol I was drawing up a rough draft for a Songs of the Decade (So Far) list last week. Ass on the Floor was #2.

its a kirt not a skilt (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 14 October 2014 11:03 (eleven years ago)

this rick ross/k michelle song has a very dirty money-ish chorus https://soundcloud.com/rickyrozaymmg/rozay-feat-k-michelle-if-they-knew

it's not particularly great or anything but the similarities are pretty strong i think

SMOKE WEED LISTEN TO SADE

When I am afraid, I put my toast in you (Neanderthal), Saturday, 21 September 2019 17:04 (six years ago)

been away from this album probably 8-9 years, but I still like it just as much today

When I am afraid, I put my toast in you (Neanderthal), Saturday, 21 September 2019 17:04 (six years ago)

i don't get why they reversed the track order on the deluxe, "Yeah Yeah You Would" makes much more sense as the opener, so I reset it that way on my player. "Ass on the Floor" is perfectly placed as the third.

When I am afraid, I put my toast in you (Neanderthal), Saturday, 21 September 2019 17:07 (six years ago)

still in my top 5 of the decade, for me rn the easy pick for #1 is “hate that you love me” crazy it placed so low

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Saturday, 21 September 2019 18:36 (six years ago)

there are actually three different tracklists of this (original, cd deluxe, digital deluxe) and i have no idea why, maybe we should poll them lol

ufo, Saturday, 21 September 2019 22:39 (six years ago)

this is the greatest album of all time

k3vin k., Sunday, 22 September 2019 02:41 (six years ago)

i rly hope diddy does an album like this soon w/ ppl like ty dolla, swae lee etc

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years.... The album that broke my heart #LastTrainToParis 💔

— Diddy (@Diddy) December 14, 2020

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 14 December 2020 15:00 (five years ago)

this could have been the sound of the 10s instead we got “hyperpop”

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Monday, 14 December 2020 21:09 (five years ago)

Imagine if this would have been the launchpad for most of pop in the last decade.... sigh.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 14 December 2020 21:13 (five years ago)

I owe ILM big time for pushing me toward this album.

Why did it break his heart?

Patriotic Goiter (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 14 December 2020 21:14 (five years ago)

I was wondering the same thing, actually. My assumption was that it was because Dirty Money split up before they got to do more?

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 14 December 2020 21:17 (five years ago)

Because he spent three years on it and it's his lowest-selling album (~300,000 copies)?

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 14 December 2020 21:19 (five years ago)

he also might just be alluding to the general theme of the album....

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 December 2020 21:41 (five years ago)

its crazy how many people i see talking about it today...if you look at the pazz n jop voters for it its literally the ilm all stars

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Tuesday, 15 December 2020 03:45 (five years ago)

I was assuming he meant like unperson said he thought it was his best work and it didn't do well

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 15 December 2020 03:47 (five years ago)

My general opinion of Sean Combs was such that I was legit shocked + floored when I finally heard this album. Still sounds so great.

You will notice a small sink where your sofa once was. (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 15 December 2020 03:53 (five years ago)

the one before it suggests its heading in this direction tbh. i actually expected at the time "press play" to sound more like what ended up being "LTTP" just because he was already listening to all the music that influenced LTTP but he hadn't quite adapted it to his A&R skillset yet i guess ... still "Press Play" has some crazy shit on it. The Keyshia Cole song in particular
