great song and great guitar solo. I love the volume swells, which I guess are from the volume knob on the guitar and not a pedal. I love that technique.

this one was my very last add to my list and was put in at number 19.

Even when I don't like a SD song, there is usually something going on that I can latch on to and enjoy...like the guitar parts obv.

Yeah, I had no idea at all people rated this so highly, I don't think it was mentioned at all on the voting thread? (can't remember ever hearing any opinion about it anywhere to be honest, positive or negative)

Pretzel Logic was my first Dan LP and though my esteem for it dwindled as i familiarized myself with the other albums, "Night By Night" is one song that remains awesome to me, so huge-sounding.

Voted for "Night By Night" pretty highly, sounds like the theme to a lost 70s cop drama.

It's the clavinet. I get Fagen's complaints that it's not fully realized. Even the lyrics in the chorus are more general than you'd expect.

time out of mind was my #3 but i think i ranked it too low

i rated damn near everything on my ballot too low. 'time out of mind' is the cvs radio steely dan fave around here. LOVE IT.

Somewhere on ILM there is a TOOM thread with a (now blocked) youtube clip of some mustachioed shirtless dirtbag chopping lines while bopping and miming along to TOOM. It was my intro to the song and it was kind of creepy and wrong and perfect.
