ehh, I think the appropriation is secondary to the fact that it's being done by someone with a history of problematic use of cultural symbols

SCG have had the 'problematic' going over from The Wire in the past decade, it wasn't that convincing iirc, one or both of the Bishops have ethered them in response, it's easily googleable

do you think a middle aged white (1/8th druze!) guy decrying political correctness counts as an ethering? they have some sense that they are always punching up due to the scene they inhabit but i am curious what idk ayesha siddiqui or someone wld make of them

ogmor, Friday, 4 April 2014 01:23 (twelve years ago)

That video? Fuck that guy.

Ugh can there be a "let's point at horrible racists" thread so this one doesn't get all shitted up with irrelevancies?

Would Prostitutes fit in this thread somehow? I've gotten around to listening to this recent album and am enjoying it

mh, Friday, 22 August 2014 16:02 (eleven years ago)

The first thing I heard in this vein (thanks to this thread) was Chasing Voices' "Acidbathory" 12", and it's still my favorite thing. Love, love, love that track so much. Got quickly burned out on everything else (and I'm throwing Demdike in there too). Raime peaked with their first 12", BEB started releasing goth records, etc

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Friday, 22 August 2014 21:50 (eleven years ago)

Any opinions on the Dalhous album?

Oake. With abstract female vocals, sort of like Seefeel without any warmth, played at 16 rpm.

Opal Tapes is all over the place, but some of their releases are very this-thread.

Tarcar's EP from late last year on Blackest Ever Black is good if you're into the whole BEB thing

paolo, Friday, 6 February 2015 12:59 (eleven years ago)

Actually everyone who reads this thread is probably into the whole BEB thing

paolo, Friday, 6 February 2015 12:59 (eleven years ago)

Love that Tarcar EP. I've had a bit of a hard time getting into the Oake album, but I'm still trying. The EP grabbed me right away.

I don't know anything about D.Å.R.F.D.H.S., but I enjoy the weird, dubby, 80s death industrial meets Ekoplekz sound of "Kill All Bullies."

Did anyone listen to the Drumm/Lescaleet collaboration 'The Abyss'? On the surface it's an ambient noise thing with some quite harsh or jarring frequencies, but after a couple of listens there's definitely more to it than that. Maybe not quite as good as Lambkin & Lescaleet's 'Photographs' from a year or two ago, but well worth a look.

I want more people to like Ekoplekz. So I can talk about Ekoplekz. The new Entropik EP is two long tracks sorta named after Joey Beltram and Spacemen 3 tracks (and sort of vibing along those lines). It's on Spotify.

His instruments hiss and fizz as though they could deliver a nasty shock if improperly handled. Those bass sounds are so fucked up and dirty - in a way this is what I've always secretly wanted dub to sound like. I've always been in love with the idea of Lee Perry or King Tubby surrounded by tape equipment, wrecked'n'repaired electronics, multi-coloured wires spitting out of crust-enfilled sockets in a van or a ramshackle hut somewhere. This kind of takes it to its logical conclusion - creating true dub sounds using the studio itself as an instrument, rather than reconstructing pre-existing recordings.

This is a great descrpiption!

two weeks pass...

ugh those titles tho

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 04:40 (eleven years ago)

Yeah I'm not too bothered with titles tbh. He tends to get a bit cheesier with his EP titles.

^^^ NOT METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 31 March 2015 06:35 (eleven years ago)

ive downloaded all of his flacs but only played a few of them, the mego one last year is interesting

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:17 (eleven years ago)

Ekoplekz is the artist name of Nick Edwards, a 44-year-old property developer from Bristol

theres a forum page somewhere where english people get upset about this lms

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:18 (eleven years ago)

i'm into this

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:40 (eleven years ago)

was expecting frankly another deepchord clone; was not expecting him to sound like early conrad schnitzler

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 13:42 (eleven years ago)

i like the new ekoplekz ep

nb there appears to be some psytrance producer called ekoplex who i found by accident

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:07 (eleven years ago)

so is the robert rental track, which is mandatory if u call a track that

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:09 (eleven years ago)

I first heard of Ekoplekz stuff through that woebot blog, and then from a friend who was interested in synth experimentation, and finally actually heard stuff on a Mordant Music compilation. I think he codes a lot more as experimental/weird than as dub techno.

"deepchord clone" being an intriguing state since they're really kind of a flattened down version of a handful of basic channel tracks

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:26 (eleven years ago)

and yet, and yet

naw i'm into dc/echospace/intrusion/et al but the list of epigonal derivatives is unending

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:33 (eleven years ago)

basic channel is too elemental to listen to regularly, feel like they are more of a procrustean bed for this kind of stuff than sth to be enjoyed on their own for v long

i never get tired of this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeV6RtcpqTQ

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 14:37 (eleven years ago)

have you ever gotten into the silent season stuff? I haven't really, yet, but heard good things

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 16:15 (eleven years ago)

i dl'ed and listened to a few segue releases a couple years ago and still listen to "pacifica" every now and then

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHswVBmIHAI

he's since put out two more albums that i hadn't noticed prob bc i went about that long w/o a computer

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:05 (eleven years ago)

they're doing some sort of showcase at this festival in boulder, colorado. thought about going. charles cohen also playing.

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:13 (eleven years ago)

i am so shit abt following new releases, 2013 was pretty much the last year i was keeping up and completely fell off the wagon over the past year in favor of diving into artist discogs

clouds, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:16 (eleven years ago)

I keep up on nothing, I think my listening is pretty much concentrated on a few things, then I see some other things live and fall into those

mh, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:24 (eleven years ago)

I dont keep up with anything, only what i find in the woods

that remix of model 500 is ok nowhere near the original or maurizio mix

saer, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:33 (eleven years ago)

ok BUT nowhere near

saer, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 19:33 (eleven years ago)

i think the whole remix album is wonderful, maybe the best deepchord thing outside of the linkwood "miles away" remixes.

ekoplekz not my thing at all.. i'd be down to listen to some ilm-er curated best-of, though.

brimstead, Tuesday, 31 March 2015 20:52 (eleven years ago)

that elemental quality of basic channel is exactly what makes them so endlessly listenable

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 1 April 2015 01:03 (eleven years ago)

if if you want a good context for a bunch of basic channel, that Scion mix is still amazing
http://www.discogs.com/Scion-Arrange-And-Process-Basic-Channel-Tracks/release/43996

mh, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 01:16 (eleven years ago)

btw... stroboscopic artefacts ^_^

mh, Wednesday, 1 April 2015 01:38 (eleven years ago)

yeah that mix is fucking rad

i still haven't figured out what kevin drumm has to do w/ any of this
