yes, it's alright

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 28 May 2006 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Well they're kind of obvious in a certain way aren't they? I mean not top 40 obvious... but well demarcated "hipster" territory-- only breaking new ground to their readership surely?

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Sunday, 28 May 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

listening to flight right now -- bow 2 is really good

Exactly.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Sunday, 28 May 2006 19:46 (twenty years ago)

However, Sunno)) are pretty non-functional music, and I doubt a New York Times article will result in dramatic changes to them or their fan base... they make unpleasant, at times awesome, at other times ridiculous (in a good way) bass and tritone heavy noise. I imagine they might be used at Guantanamo as sonic weapons... However, they are undeniably a good story....

Has anyone heard the new tour only live cd yet? Apparently xasthur is pissed off about being included on it without permission(and payment?)

Would like to hear more about this tour CD. Saw them twice recently and didn't see any tour CD at the merch table.

Lecherous Erick, Tuesday, 30 May 2006 09:29 (twenty years ago)

All i know is that it was recorded on the Euro tour this year. I saw them in Glasgow and I want this.
But its probably long sold out and selling for $100+ like most sunn o))) merch. I saw them on the 3rd date of the UK tour and everything was gone apart from the split 12" (and only because they printed several thousand of them)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 09:31 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
I ordered that live cd from southern lord. They sold a few that were left. I missed out on the tour shirts though.

Heres a David Byrne review of Sunn o)))

Got my cd in. Its really really good. Glad I didn't have to pay ebay prices.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 24 July 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Agree w/ Gekkopel, above. Sunn0))) are both awesome and ludicrous in approximately equal measure. Conceptually brilliant, often hilarious, wonderfully packaged, tons of fun to write/think about, and guaranteed to appeal to almost no-one.

I like the music itself, but only occasionally, and my affection for the band depends greatly on their nonmusical appeal (production of collectible objects, think value, weirdness factor, etc.).

Black One is the best thing they've ever done, closely followed by the White albums and Flight of the Behemoth. Didn't like 'em so much when they were following more closely in Earth's footsteps. Earth just did the dreamlike magma-metal thing a million times better.

P.S. Haven't we passed the pull-date on their novelty value? Where does the line for the backlash start?

fuckfuckingfuckedfucker (fuckfuckingfuckedfucker), Monday, 24 July 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

anyone managed to order that massive lp box set? grr, i was about to order that beast but it's sold out

rizzx (Rizz), Monday, 24 July 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

I did. Had to borrow the money for it. Have you tried emailing Aquarius records? Maybe they will get some.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 24 July 2006 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

nah i just read that on tiny mixtapes actually. i was relieved and sad at the same time. cos i dont have the money either but i do really want it at some point. limited eds suck..

rizzx (Rizz), Monday, 24 July 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

Im sure southern lord still have them listed for sale.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 24 July 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Ahh no its the Black One complete set of vinyls that are still up.
The white box was definitely still there this morning though.

he didn't take my offer, btw. apparently "nantucket lemonade bottle filled with piss and thrown at your head" isn't good enough for mr. still-stealed-box-set.

GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Friday, 4 August 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

Theres one seller on there who sold 4 or 5 of them for $200+ each

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 4 August 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

quick Sunn 0))) question/comment

have you HEARD the new Oracle release? fucking great. Sunn, Boris, Earth/Melvins, and Mayhem collab? sure .... why the hell not?

thoughts?

Cameron Octigan, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

Oracle is great.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

wasn't into it. the jackhammer was annoying.

original bgm, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

It's funny how you can track their influences over time. "Hey, Greg, you think anybody else has ever heard of this band Einsturzende Neubaten?" "Nah, we're still the coolest guys on the block, Steve..."

unperson, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

Ooohhh...

http://www.southernlord.com/index2.php

Anyone heard the Dømkirke recordings? Haven't heard one second of it, but with Attila Csihar, Steve Moore and Lasse Marhaug on the team, it must be worth a listen.

the Dirt, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

Domkirke is badass. The first side is pretty organ heavy and has Attila Csihar basically belting Gregorian chant, and the rest is pretty "standard" Sunn 0)), but still great.

I'm going to see them tonight!!!!!!!! OMGz WTF

jonathan - stl, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 15:39 (seventeen years ago)

I got my Domkirke lp yesterday. Its great.

Btw at the current gigs theres a 3xlp of Grimm Robes Demos. It has the extra tracks on vinyl that were on the Daymare cd version. $40. My mate picked me one up.
Apparently the hoodies are very in demand and are selling out very fast as theres only a ltd amount on sale at each gig.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

I love em, but I have no idea how this band convinced people to buy all this expensive vinyl

jigglepanda.gif (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

Even from a sound stand point, yes the lows are hypothetically better, but to me drones sounds best without crackles and bullshit.

jigglepanda.gif (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)

Some people just prefer vinyl.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

crackles are different than pops -- if you keep yr vinyl clean it'll never crackle

Kramkoob (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

Most people buying the vinyl do keep it clean. They never play it! It's for ebay only..

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

vinyl is like investing in gold for poor people.
