there are moments when audiences can depart from the packaging that has strangled the genre and discover an affecting innocence, in spite of similes comparing asses to meteorological phenomena. (For this reason, I’ve been craving a cover of “Cyclone” from The Pipettes.)

the otherwise whtvr cyclone remix made me fully appreciate t-pain's overlooked contribution to society on the original.

this got blanked on rolling rnb but i still like it. heard another t-pain outside production since (think it was bow wow, or omarion, or bow wow & omarion) and he used the same "great greatness" intro, UGH GET RID OF IT TP
― r|t|c, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link
isn't T-Pain's sound effect on "Cyclone" just the exact same thing R. did on the "I'm N Luv (Wit a Stripper)" remix?
― Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 17 December 2007 16:27 (sixteen years ago) link
I'm driving across country this week and I went through KC, Columbia MO and STL today, and listened to R&B stations all day (like seven hours today). It was like T-Pain day (probably every day, I don't usually listen to the radio this much) but I was amazed: I heard T-Pain at least 8 times : heard "Kiss Kiss" three times, "Good Life" twice, and "Shawty", "I'm So Hood" and "Cyclone" each once.
fun fact: when "Beautiful Girls" came on my wife asked "does he have a speech impediment?" (n.b. she only listens to classical so listening to r&b with her is like culture shock)

This poll is missing "Low"
― Hurting 2, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 05:52 (sixteen years ago) link
this poll was done before "low", which is by all means an awful song.

DISAGREE

nb I know that T-Pain isn't on "Beautiful Girls" (just rereading my note made it sound like I'm more of an idiot than I am, shocking though that may be)
― Euler, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 12:47 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah this poll was kinda pre-"Low" but I would totally say that song is better than half the ones that were in the poll.

The "I'm So Hood" remix is partly so much better than the original because it uses a lot less of the T-Pain part, beat is killer but I don't really like what he does on it.
― Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 7 March 2008 13:47 (sixteen years ago) link
Probably need to run a new version of this poll.
― Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:10 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah i think we could stand to re-run an up-to-date version of this once every 6 weeks
though to be fair most of the most recent stuff is sub-Good Life/Bartender/Buy U A Drank, to say nothing of Flirt.

# 2008: "Shawty Get Loose" (Lil Mama featuring Chris Brown & T-Pain) # 2008: "She Got It" (2 Pistols featuring T-Pain & Tay Dizm) # 2008: "The Boss" (Rick Ross featuring T-Pain) # 2008: "Cash Flow" (Ace Gutta featuring Rick Ross & T-Pain)
these are all pretty good
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:35 (sixteen years ago) link
before alex in baltimore jumps on that i listen to "the boss" and "shawty get loose" actively and "she got it" when it comes on the radio. "cash flow" is aight but im not mad at it or anything

I know you guys hate it, but "Get Low".
― Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:40 (sixteen years ago) link
I'm sick of reading this as TAINT POLL, over and over. Someone just make a real taint poll, for pete's sake.
― Z S, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 21:48 (sixteen years ago) link
I figured the Rolling T-Pain Thread 2008 would be enough to cover the new stuff and maybe I'd do a poll at the end of the year. But if you guys think there should be a poll now, should it be for all the stuff in this poll + newer stuff, or just the newer stuff as its own poll? Because I can't honestly picture much post-"Low" stuff deserving votes over the early hitz.

a lot of the crappy songs he's on he at least has an elegantly simple hook, the "boss boss b-boss" sputtering is just the horrible cherry on top of what was kind of an awkward track to begin with.

THREAD REVIVE
Songs been around for a while, but "Beam Me Up" with Tay Dizm and our fave Ricky Ross just released a video recently, so I hope to God I hear this blasting out of every car if this makes it on the radio. I'm loving this song so much
To agree with Alex above (albeit three months late): The first 20 seconds of that song are glorious, then the way the beats switch up throughout the song and the bridge... way awkward. I also never expected Rick ROss to use the phrase "thus far" in a chorus, ever.

tbf it did kind of quickly recede from the spotlight for a breakthrough hit by a ubiquitous artist, i haven't heard it in the wild in years, certainly not like "buy u a drank" or w/e
