― lex pretend, Friday, 14 March 2014 15:46 (twelve years ago)
Haven't heard the album yet, but I'm legitimately excited to hear a 45-minute rap record after slogging through that new Migos tape.
Also legitimately excited cause I like YG and all the songs I've heard so far.

I see that a little. the bass is nice enough but the claps/snares don't snap with much impact, kinda chintzy on certain songs. There's some nice details to appreciate in spots tho (guitar on Me & My B*). Mustard should hang with Ant Banks for a bit and learn a thing or two.
I like this album enough.
I think the Do It To Ya beat is an interesting interpolation of 'Let's Play House'
Drake song is cool but he totally jacked his opening flow from Rappin 4tay off playaz club.
― Spottie, Friday, 14 March 2014 23:51 (twelve years ago)
and the song was a jack of lil boosie

The thing about drums and snaps on Mustard-beats is that they are placed perfectly. No, they don't sound especially great, it's sort of the same sound on every track, but they just enter each track on exactly the perfect moment.
Also, Mustard is great at having half the track hitting one way, and the other half hitting another way, and thereby making listeners get hit two ways at the same - damn - time.
― Frederik B, Sunday, 16 March 2014 02:37 (twelve years ago)
think "Act Right" and "Function" are good examples of Mustard-sounding beats that I don't have the same issues with
― nova, Sunday, 16 March 2014 05:02 (twelve years ago)
yeah those 2 songs are low key better than nearly Mustard's entire catalog (although i don't have a problem with his drums per se)

YG is sounding awesome. Great mix of classic West Coast g-funk era and ratchet Mustard productions. Wondered about the length with 17 tracks, but enjoying the shorter tracks.

uncensored yg album doesn't appear to spotify? am i wrong?
― We hugged with no names exchanged (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 19 March 2014 14:35 (twelve years ago)
forks I think that's a weird thing with spotify's search engine. if you're only seeing the edited version on the artist's page, try searching for the album itself. usually brings up the explicit.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 19 March 2014 15:28 (twelve years ago)
yeah, that's what I did! There's like three versions but none of them have the explicit label.did you find it? can you link to it?

liking the YG album a lot, like how a lot of young west coast cats (also Kendrick & Dom Kennedy) are able to do stuff that at once feels current and fresh but still part of the traditions of west coast hip hop (but not like playing period dress up like say Joey Bada$$ as an east coast example - who i like ok but still)
well sequenced album too, i like how it progresses, you see the most ignorant party part of him first then it moves slowly to more introspective stuff by the end
kendrick's def in that place where every cameo verse he does feels like a mini-event, he doesn't phone shit in
lol drake, he has no persona to me, i was like "who is this guy?" before i looked up at the spotify window and found out it was wheelchair jimmy talking all tuff

At this point the best way to find the cuss word version of an album on Spotify is to look for the parental advisory sticker on the cover art thumbnail
