I predict No Line on the Horizon Preinterpreted landslide on the 2009 edition.

Vulgar Display of Flowers (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

was that a bump to annoy grady?

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

No, I bumped it because I missed it and it should never be forgotten. Good times were had here.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

Ahh, well Im bumping it to annoy him ;)

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 7 March 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

Wonder if there will be interest for a poll next year?

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 7 March 2009 00:36 (seventeen years ago)

why wouldn't there be?
(and where is Grady, anyhow?)

51 SBs and there's nothing on (Ioannis), Saturday, 7 March 2009 09:08 (seventeen years ago)

Mastodon ftw, tho, no?

51 SBs and there's nothing on (Ioannis), Saturday, 7 March 2009 09:09 (seventeen years ago)

well, it was a bit of a hassle getting enough people to vote so the novelty might've worn off next year.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 7 March 2009 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

any front runners for 2009 yet?

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 23 March 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

Cobalt I assume. Personally, I hate the vocalist, which is a real shame because I love the music.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 March 2009 01:05 (seventeen years ago)

Cobalt wont pick up crossover votes for an ILM poll though, as awesome as the album is.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 23 March 2009 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard much with crossover appeal - Tombs? Amoseurs? The upcoming Mastodon?

None really do anything for me. It hasn't been a real metal year for me thus far.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 March 2009 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

Amesoeurs possibly. Going to be interesting on how the Mastodon is received. Could do well crossover-wise but metal purists hate it.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 23 March 2009 01:19 (seventeen years ago)

Steely Dan is more metal than Cynic.

i, grey, Monday, 23 March 2009 07:11 (seventeen years ago)

The Gnaw album is the best metal record, by which TBH I mean 'noise record featuring metal luminaries', I've heard this year. Not at all a frontrunner but might scrape a nominal top 50 if enough ppl hear it, which they should

some dude's gizmo (DJ Mencap), Monday, 23 March 2009 10:57 (seventeen years ago)

My top metal album so far this year is Jamie Saft's Black Shabbis. I also liked that Lamb of God, and the new Mastodon.

Mordy, Monday, 23 March 2009 10:59 (seventeen years ago)

I have the Gnaw vinyl, it's great.
Khanate album should do well too, it's the best thing they've done since the 1st album, pity it took dubin 3 years to do the vocals so they split up and wont tour it.

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 23 March 2009 11:17 (seventeen years ago)

slim pickings so far

tombs is all right, buried inside is better but no real surprises in it, lord mantis the only thing I've heard that made me sit up & take notice really

Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter (J0hn D.), Monday, 23 March 2009 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

lord mantis at 7:30 a.m. is pretty fucking bracing though I gotta say, this'll make my overall year-end

New Mastodon in the running for next years poll then?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 6 April 2009 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

God, I hope not.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 6 April 2009 22:58 (seventeen years ago)

a dissenter!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 6 April 2009 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

Not a fan, either. Mastodon = everything that is and always has been wrong with metal.

ilxor, Monday, 6 April 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

???????????????????????????????????

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 6 April 2009 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

almost sure that mastodon will place high on my list

I BLAME JESUS (jjjusten), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 00:33 (seventeen years ago)

Mastodon is in the same category as Torche to me, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them win.

(But I still think they're dumb fake metal for people who are too embarrassed to admit that they always liked Alice in Chains more than Slayer.)

glenn mcdonald, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 00:39 (seventeen years ago)

i prefer alice in chains to slayer

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 11:11 (seventeen years ago)

i don't.

GET OUT.

"Hey, We're Clubbing!" (Police Squad) (jim), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 11:27 (seventeen years ago)

it's possible to like both AIC AND slayer, y'knaa. (though slayer are obviously vastly superior.)

mastodon are now just OK. for me, they peaked with remission and have been on a steady but shallow decline ever since. I admire the fact that they keep pushing their sound, I'm just not keen on where it's gone.

m the g, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 11:31 (seventeen years ago)

Not a fan, either. Mastodon = everything that is and always has been wrong with metal.

Yeah I don't really get this... yr saying that they encapsulate everything that's bad about the genre for 35, 40 years? That seems weird esp cos a lot of their hataz seem to consider them v much a product of modern metal tastes and fashions. (Don't have a comment on their new album cos I've not heard it.)

GARU GLITTER (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

Not a fan, either. Mastodon = everything that is and always has been wrong with metal.

WTF dude? I think you better back this up a little bit. I can get not being into the band, but being "everything that is and always has been wrong with metal?", seriously? Worse than fourth-rate hair metal? Worse than shameless nu-metal? I mean, fuck, come on.

display names have been changed to protect the innocent (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 7 April 2009 12:38 (seventeen years ago)

I was just being dramatic for entertainment value, in case that wasn't plainly obvious. I like Roxette better than Slayer, personally, if I actually have to rank them on a single scale, so I claim no purist high-ground here.

In this non-purist vein, in fact, I'm enjoying this new "gothic avant-garde metal" album by Ensoph, in kind of the same way that I'm still (vastly) enjoying Artifact. Enthusiastically goofy excess. I think there's some divide in here that has to do with whether your idea of compelling evil is more HR Giger and HP Lovecraft, or more Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Tarantino.

glenn mcdonald, Tuesday, 7 April 2009 13:33 (seventeen years ago)

or both.
