"this is not some las vegas light show spectacle shit. this is like, well thought out. this is art."
ugh this is pretty much what i hate most about kanye. spelling "this is art" out in those words = full-body shudder in any context. SHOW. DON'T. TELL.
― lex pretend, Monday, 17 February 2014 23:52 (twelve years ago)
same. he's been spoonfeeding signifiers that he is more Respectable and Innovative than other hip hop artists for a long time but out and out saying he is a genius who makes great art is some facepalm shit.

Yea but its kind of hilarious to see someone violate this unspoken rule so egregiously
― Treeship, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 00:12 (twelve years ago)
I'm convinced he says these things knowing full well that he's breaking rules of decorum, that's exactly why he does it
― Spaghetti Sauce Shampoo (Moodles), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 01:43 (twelve years ago)
i agree with that but it doesn't mean i have to like it

"What more can you ask for? The international asshole who complains about what he is owed and throws a tantrum like he is three years old, you gotta love it though somebody still speaks from his soul."
He def knows he is behaving in a way that appears super undignified to most.
― Treeship, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 02:11 (twelve years ago)
Went to the concert late last year and thought it was pretty awesome, but the story about the fan yelling for him to take off the mask is lol cuz I that was the main thing I thought was kinda lame
Kendrick was cool but I thought the sound was mixed a little off, everything blended together

I dunno if this is real or not but it sounds like the one that Hudson Mohawk dropped & that everybody is saying Bound 1 & I really like it so I don't care

There's a trailer for a Hype Williams-directed concert film of some sort on his website. It's the same trailer that was shown with his appearance on Seth Meyers' show earlier this week, though we weren't told at the time that it was for a film.
― Murgatroid, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:09 (twelve years ago)
I wonder how successful it will be since I heard a few reports on Twitter of some shows having like, half-empty stadiums and whatnot. If people don't want to see him live, why would they see him in a concert film at a movie theater?
― Murgatroid, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:10 (twelve years ago)
wow, I'm psyched, was really hoping there'd be a film of this since I didn't have an opportunity to see it IRL

the short trailer from seth meyers looked cool; from my seats at the show i couldnt see the backdrop screen images @ all, i feel like that couldve added a lot
his perf on seth meyers was also good, the end of him flipping the mic stand, dropping the mic and walking out all worked, great lighting
― johnny crunch, Thursday, 27 February 2014 19:20 (twelve years ago)
show in baltimore on valentines day was half empty

Seth Meyers performance was pretty lame, I thought -- maybe a career-spanning medley is a good idea if the network will give you a block of ten minutes or more, but doing just a chorus of all but a couple songs just felt disjointed and pointless.
― MISTERSNRUB (some dude), Friday, 28 February 2014 00:12 (twelve years ago)
yeah i didn't like it at all, also he didn't even do that many good songs... like "heartless" and "all of the lights" are not in the top 30 solo kanye songs (and i'm being generous)
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 28 February 2014 01:30 (twelve years ago)
"mercy" aside, i wouldn't any of those tracks in the better half of the albums they're on tbh

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/16/magazine/the-psychomagical-realism-of-alejandro-jodorowsky.html
As the rapper Kanye West, whose “Yeezus” tour was inspired by “The Holy Mountain,” put it last November to a packed (and very likely perplexed) house at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center: “I don’t know if . . . y’all ever heard about Jodorowsky, the director. . . . Y’all don’t know who the (expletive) he is. . . . Everybody copied off him. . . . And there’s gonna be (expletives) in this arena in a few months dancing all sloppy off him.”
― dmr, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 15:15 (twelve years ago)
yeah i felt validated from that
now that it's not 40 degrees every day, ive noticed how much of a summer album yeezus is to me, idk it just bangs to drive around to

i think it's reasonable to say that if you wouldn't get excited about seeing kanye, common & chappelle (and jay electronica) onstage you might not even like rap music

― nova, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 03:18 (eleven years ago)
i wish Kanye and Common had a better signature collaboration to do whenever they're at the same concert than "Get Em High." they coulda reenacted the Chappelle's Show "The Food" performance with Dave maybe.
― some dude, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 03:23 (eleven years ago)
Any surprise surprise appearances of this stature are welcomed and thus exciting.
― Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 03:35 (eleven years ago)
common opened w/ "the food" at that show cuz chappelle introduced him but kanye didn't come out until later
― snrub goin up on a tuesday (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 13:43 (eleven years ago)
two years later and i still enjoy this album a lot, first four tracks especially still surprise and overwhelm, the charlie wilson vocal in "bound 2" still resonates
the dancehall elements are some of the best parts imo, if this album did anything for me it made me want to listen to capleton and beenie man more
very weird to read the first reactions in this thread esp to "new slaves" and see people think kanye wasn't parodying white voices in the "what you want, a bentley? fur coat? a diamond chain? all you blacks want all the same things" line, i don't know how you could hear that any other way?
― marcos, Friday, 14 August 2015 15:13 (ten years ago)
I haven't felt compelled to re listen to this album even once after the hype boiled off
― Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 August 2015 17:05 (ten years ago)
nbd i listened to it like 6,000,000,000,000 times for you, it still rules tbrr
i don't know how you could hear that any other way?
same. there are things on this album that don't work but absolutely nothing that's unintentional and, of the elements considered controversial, almost nothing that's included solely to shock or lacks a pointed significance, w/ the possible exception of "i'm in it"
