The world didn't need another "call me [name of celebrity or pop culture character]" song, but this one is good. Best Lex Luger track I've heard in a while

yeah good track
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 5 February 2014 22:56 (twelve years ago)
Not sure how deliberate it was, but a funny, weirdly hyper guy who convinces uptight people he's gay so he can have lots of sex is an understandable character for Young Thug to relate to. (Plus Three's Company is just an underrated show in general.)
― Evan R, Thursday, 6 February 2014 01:23 (twelve years ago)
haha
i'm annoyed that the whole premise of the song is he has 3 girls when Jack Tripper had 2 girls, though
― scott c-word (some dude), Thursday, 6 February 2014 01:25 (twelve years ago)
maybe Young Thug has only seen season 5
― rob, Thursday, 6 February 2014 03:25 (twelve years ago)
The season where both Terri and Cindy Snow filled in for Suzanne Somers' character? Amazing.
― Evan R, Thursday, 6 February 2014 03:48 (twelve years ago)
Jack usually had a woman in his apartment in addition to his roommates, so that would make three. But I dunno; I like that I can't make the logic square. Also I like that this track essentially makes PeeWee Longway Larry, the show's secret-best character
― Evan R, Thursday, 6 February 2014 03:50 (twelve years ago)
Young Thugga Mane La Flare drops April 1. First song is really good; solid verses from both Gucci and Thug

only got around to checking 1017 Thug recently but there's some dope songs on there, but then I dig autotune Weezy more than others so it makes sense I'd like this. was kinda loling how dude basically sounds like a drugged-up Drake on the "Yeah Yeah" hook though
― nova, Friday, 14 March 2014 10:38 (twelve years ago)
new "Blanguage" track is cool, especially in comparison to the insufferable Drake song
― nova, Thursday, 27 March 2014 01:14 (twelve years ago)
well this kinda bummed me out http://www.buzzfeed.com/naomizeichner/young-thug-trapped-major-label-deal
― lag∞n, Thursday, 27 March 2014 20:00 (twelve years ago)
Awesome reporting. My guess is that none of these contracts hold him back much, especially when there's so much money to be made for all parties involved. It's not a Mary J Blige exclusive contract with Sea World scenario.
― Evan R, Thursday, 27 March 2014 20:29 (twelve years ago)
the most fucked up part about that is that the "savior" in his life is birdman, who is notorious for fucking every single one of his artists -- including his "son" -- out of royalty money
chance the rapper's situation is an interesting comparison to this
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 March 2014 21:19 (twelve years ago)
otm re birdman, fd up world
― lag∞n, Thursday, 27 March 2014 21:20 (twelve years ago)
Thugger's Wayne fixation is borderline creepy. I still love him though.
― longneck, Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:16 (twelve years ago)
What IS Chance's situation? It seems even more confusing than Thug's.
One thing this does shed light on is these quasi-major label Kevin Gates albums, which are really good but don't seem to get promoted or heard beyond his existing fanbase, so I can't fault Thug for trying to get out of that.
― some dude, Thursday, 27 March 2014 23:09 (twelve years ago)
Not entirely true, the latest Gates record doubled the 1st week sales of his last. They're going for a slow grind i think
Chance's situation isn't confusing at all afaik; he simply hasn't signed
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Friday, 28 March 2014 00:07 (twelve years ago)
So, how long before APG completely rebrands? lol
Chance's situation is confusing in the sense that I can't even tell if he's planning to sign or what shape his next project will take. Which is kinda cool, but still.
I hope Gates's strategy is building to a really good career but I fear it won't, don't think anything is a given right now.
― some dude, Friday, 28 March 2014 00:34 (twelve years ago)
Thug's Weezy fixation makes sense given he's essentially a more batshit version of him no? reductionist but still
wish I liked "Stoner," heard that on radio first time yesterday
― nova, Friday, 28 March 2014 01:34 (twelve years ago)
chance is super interesting because i do feel like he's at the point where he could drop a single and do real numbers with no label
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 28 March 2014 02:23 (twelve years ago)
like, earl did 49k in his first week. ferg did 32k in his first week.
i feel like chance could roll out his "debut album" or whatever w/o no label and land somewhere in between those two numbers
obviously his ce
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 28 March 2014 02:24 (twelve years ago)
whoops
obviously his ceiling might be higher if he went the full label route but i truly could see him doing something bizarre since he's already made it this far. maybe he'll sign to skrillex's label or something super boutique that could give him some backing while allowing him to do basically what he does now on the business & creative side.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 28 March 2014 02:26 (twelve years ago)
anyway on the point of thug i agree with evan that all of this shouldn't be a huge impediment to his career if he continues on this trajectory, but it certainly shows the importance of having your business strategy straight from the jump in a music industry climate like this one
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 28 March 2014 02:28 (twelve years ago)
it's just kinda sad because it's like Gucci's indifferent, self-destructive attitude towards business is almost literally contagiously spreading to other artists
― some dude, Friday, 28 March 2014 11:03 (twelve years ago)
I'm kind of worried that Chance doesn't have another 'Acid Rap' in him :\
― 龜, Friday, 28 March 2014 11:10 (twelve years ago)
yeah part of me wonders that, too. gonna remain optimistic, though, the song on Dedication 5 was crazy.

Dude is so young and so smart and so confident in his voice. He might not make another Acid Rap, but I could easily see him surpassing it.

The cruelest April Fool's Day joke is that neither Thugga Mane La Flare or Brick Factory Vol. 1 came out
― Evan R, Friday, 4 April 2014 17:51 (twelve years ago)
didn't come out when announced to come out but it's not like 1017 doesn't generally put out what they say they're gonna put out sooner or later
― some dude, Friday, 4 April 2014 20:05 (twelve years ago)
True, I'm just starved for mixtapes right now. I burn through them so fast these days and wanted some new ones I could look forward to listening to at the gym. I am very, very spoiled.
― Evan R, Friday, 4 April 2014 20:19 (twelve years ago)
I lost the will to keep up with Jandek Mane's output a long time ago, hopefully one of y'all true believers will let me know when there's a song I wouldn't wanna miss out on

He hasn't put out anything essential since his mini-renaissance in 2012, but even with the dip in quality and consistency I started to grow dependent on his near constant releases last year, so his imprisonment came as a blow to me. The good news is he's sounded a lot sharper on the handful of tracks he's teased this year; seems like he was in pretty good form right before he went back to jail.
― Evan R, Friday, 4 April 2014 20:30 (twelve years ago)
If Gucci is doing real jail time, and he might be, the thing I'm going to miss more than his output is his ear for new talent. Even during his own creative ruts he's been incredible as developing protege rappers and producers, to the point where him being sidelined feels like a big blow to Atlanta's entire farm system
― Evan R, Friday, 4 April 2014 20:33 (twelve years ago)
yeah feel like he was putting together a real cool scene w scooter and thugger
― lag∞n, Friday, 4 April 2014 20:35 (twelve years ago)
Scooter is absolutely slaying lately. "Disfunction" is one of my fav tracks of the year, and SL2 is super solid, too.
And Peewee Longway also seems to be clawing his way out of the second tier.
― Evan R, Friday, 4 April 2014 20:38 (twelve years ago)
