the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 31 January 2014 01:25 (twelve years ago)

what's wrong with buying substance? a good way to procure substance imo

the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 31 January 2014 01:30 (twelve years ago)

I've been googling Nathan East credits. I only knew him from Eric Clapton and Phil Collins, his longterm live gigs, but dude stays buuuuuusy.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 31 January 2014 01:33 (twelve years ago)

huge lol at 'get lucky' being a rip off of the 'golden cage' remix

I thought he meant Give Life Back to Music. But point stands.

I know, I know. I'm the funk police.

As for buying substance, Steely Dan, for example, paid cats to play sick parts in the studio and even had a hired arranger for at least some of their albums, but they wrote really great stuff that is musically and lyrically solid and unique at the core. These guys with the Halloween costumes are polishing turds, imo. And they still had to have people help them write the turds. I mean, with the right budget, a lot of people could probably write four chords and pay Nile Rodgers and some other cats to play it and come up with a decent facsimile of a Chic record. The other tracks Rodgers plays on on the record still suffer from being too slow and virtually tuneless. Get Lucky's good, but I don't think it's in the same league as tons of better stuff from the disco era, and the rest of the album is surprisingly dull and musically not really worthy of the hype and accolades.

timely critiques

|$̲̅(̲̅ιοο̲̅)̲̅$̲̅| (gr8080), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:03 (twelve years ago)

Shit, cat. It don’t make a difference.

, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:04 (twelve years ago)

the "it's not as good as my favourite disco songs!" argument is so boring and pointless

socki (s1ocki), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:09 (twelve years ago)

I was only skimming this stuff but something about Steely Dan paying cats to be sick in the studio???

Spencer Chow, Friday, 31 January 2014 02:54 (twelve years ago)

if you feed my cat a hair tie, she will get sick

the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 31 January 2014 02:56 (twelve years ago)

they paid cats to polish their own turds? that IS sick.

LOL this album is SO RANDOM!

doglato dozzy (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 16:10 (twelve years ago)

it is the access that is random. needs shuffle play imo.

the Norwegians are leaving! (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 16:14 (twelve years ago)

oh yeah, i forgot about that.

doglato dozzy (dog latin), Tuesday, 18 February 2014 16:16 (twelve years ago)

That's why I never bought the vinyl.

sounds sorta like an elaborate hoax, maybe aries spears and the lonely island cut it

PSY talks The Nut Job (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 04:36 (twelve years ago)

Think P4K are claiming it's genuine though. Not that that means it is of course.

should have added more VIC-20s to the serving cluster

ugh (lukas), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 17:16 (twelve years ago)

i really love the design of that btw, wish they'd done more of that style w/ the whole marketing campaign a year ago

°ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 17:44 (twelve years ago)

was gonna say the exact opposite, retro Memorex advertising is not my fave look at all.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 17:57 (twelve years ago)

They're way past their sell-by date. No one is going to be setting any trends by wearing OFFICIAL Daft Punk merch.

Cousin Slappy, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 18:58 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I still love this album but that's a year too late.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 19:01 (twelve years ago)

I haven't listened to this album at all this year, I don't think!

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:41 (twelve years ago)

fantastic to see P4K report these ads as news - DP, you done it again!

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 27 March 2014 16:43 (twelve years ago)

LOL otm. Amazing that this band is marketing itself! Hoorah!

coops all on coops tbh (crüt), Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:00 (twelve years ago)

everything a band does that winds up in pitchfork is an advertisement!

coops all on coops tbh (crüt), Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:00 (twelve years ago)

the songs are there too. some of them at least.

markers, Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:02 (twelve years ago)

also funny/sad that all the creativity went into the ads rather than the merch, which is pretty pedestrian (i mean a DP buckle belt?)

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:08 (twelve years ago)

every band has those these days!

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:18 (twelve years ago)

i'd never buy any of this shit even if it was half as much and its weird they're doing it a whole year later but these ads still rule.

°ㅇ๐ْ ° (gr8080), Thursday, 27 March 2014 17:22 (twelve years ago)

certainly more unified with the music than other bands' ads. it seems like something from the 70s! but... it's 2014?!?

They're playing on the fact that we're all nostalgic for 2013 - so long ago it might as well have been the 70s.

robocop ELF (seandalai), Thursday, 27 March 2014 21:08 (twelve years ago)

The helmet shirt is exactly the kind of shirt dorky 14-year-old me would buy thinking "With this t-shirt purchase, I will at long last possess coolness!"

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 March 2014 21:14 (twelve years ago)

I love this album and I think the shirt looks dope but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing it.

coops all on coops tbh (crüt), Thursday, 27 March 2014 21:18 (twelve years ago)

yep

robocop ELF (seandalai), Thursday, 27 March 2014 21:25 (twelve years ago)

would wear that shirt, mostly to church

rhyme heals all goons (m bison), Friday, 28 March 2014 02:27 (twelve years ago)

i kind of admire the faithfulness of the ads to that visual style from 70s/80s, but i hate that fucking ad style, even as a kid seeing those kinds of ads in old magazines i just always found it claustrophobic and stuffy

marcos, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:20 (twelve years ago)

haha, I love those old ads. I have volumes of books with ads from the 60s-80s, and really don't ever get tired of looking at them. (possibly helps having family in the biz)
