keiji cretins (NickB), Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:21 (ten years ago) link

The fact that NickB swapped to Pipes made me check where she placed. Was #185 - Katie Gately beat Lady Gaga!

in that I was the lowest in the "populism" ranking

― ^ enlightening post (sarahell)

Ah, sorry, didn't get that. Then, yes!

emil.y, Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:22 (ten years ago) link

What was the combined total for Katie G?

keiji cretins (NickB), Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:23 (ten years ago) link

Combined total - 192 points. Would've tied with Ali Roberts.

emil.y, Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:25 (ten years ago) link

Oops, no, sorry, looked in the wrong place. Hang on.

emil.y, Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:25 (ten years ago) link

I would've checked myself, but my oh so lame ISP keeps telling me the data page contains porn O_o

keiji cretins (NickB), Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:26 (ten years ago) link

A single release would have had 192 points, making it chart at 120, beating Iceage.

emil.y, Thursday, 30 January 2014 23:26 (ten years ago) link

smash the fash! woohoo!

wins, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:00 (ten years ago) link

3 mins in this death grips reminds me a bit of hecq, probably for no reason other than to let everyone know i've heard of hecq

idk these days i only get attached to music where the melodies practically beat me round the head. most of my year was spent obsessively listening to every song max martin's ever been involved with

Dawn of Midi was my #1 album. It's the 9-movement piece for free jazz trio Steve Reich never wrote, the sound of restraint on the perpetual verge of explosion.

7/25, I really shouldn't bother

sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:22 (ten years ago) link

I think a good few here feel the same. I got 5/25 lol

۩, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:25 (ten years ago) link

yeah, i think i had 8 that placed. not very in touch with the hive-mind.

Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:26 (ten years ago) link

you all realize there were a bunch of us that had between 0 and 2 place, right?

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:29 (ten years ago) link

albums with lots of votes but only in middle of ballots do tend to beat out a few niche things with lots of enthusiasm but what can you do? Larger rollout wouldn't make that much of a difference now unlike earlier years. It's pretty hard to get fans of more niche stuff to vote as either they dislike polls or dont think it's worth voting. I suppose rolling threads make it hard for stuff to crossover unless big publications pick up on it (see deafheaven)

۩, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:30 (ten years ago) link

unless we take a cue from politicians and unite our niche votes -- like what do you all call it over there, a coalition government?

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:31 (ten years ago) link

I had 6 place and I feel like that's a pretty good showing.

emil.y, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:31 (ten years ago) link

you all realize there were a bunch of us that had between 0 and 2 place, right?

― ^ enlightening post (sarahell), Thursday, January 30, 2014

investigating this dubious claim now.

Daniel, Esq 2, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:32 (ten years ago) link

it's true

I like yr coalition idea sarahell

I could have been more active on the campaigning thread but basically I don't have enough time

maybe next year

sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:33 (ten years ago) link

the poll clearly represents what the majority of ilxors who vote are listening to and that's all polls can do. It also leads to a few people checking out albums lower down which is great.

۩, Friday, 31 January 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

I feel like emil.y's campaigning for hot fruit was successful

^ enlightening post (sarahell), Friday, 31 January 2014 00:34 (ten years ago) link

i don't like the coalition idea one bit but i do think that loads of awesome obscure shit could stand to be proselytised better
