Omg seven votes and one #1 for tricot and it still didn't make it. My fave album of the year by far, one of my favorite discoveries.. ever, really. I didn't think it would get more than seven votes, but I did maybe forget how many people voted and how many were needed to nab #77. Wow @ Momoiro Clover beating them and Perfume though.

ineloquentwow (Craigo Boingo), Saturday, 1 February 2014 03:11 (ten years ago) link

I need to give that Troller album a listen here soon

I've yet to hear the first Alla album but from what I've gathered the references are Tropicalia, Krautrock, and even stuff like Tuxedomoon, and when I listen to FTD that's what I hear: a band from a spacey esoteric background immersing themselves in the surfaces and textures of modern R&B. It's almost like an Amon Duul II album but drawing on stuff like Katy B, Dawn Richard, and Sade instead of like, Jefferson Airplane and the Velvets and the Incredible String Band. And for a hopeless if not shameless rockist who was starting to hear the possibilities of modern pop and techno production, it came at exactly the right time. I think most of the R&B fans round here tend to be songwriting absolutists so in many ways like the Clipping album this kind of fit uncomfortably between two camps. But there was not another album this year I've listened to as much...
