Bastille - Of The Night (Kove Remix)

just realized stardom for both Q music & rtc texts are my new year wish
― moullet, Saturday, 25 January 2014 10:34 (twelve years ago)
Is it just my imagination or is there a higher quotient of bassy 2-step tunes with a 2001 vibe in the last couple of months' sets than was there previously?
Will need to isolate some particular tasty examples in service of my point here.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 02:53 (twelve years ago)
Like this one:

More of a 2000 than 2001 vibe I suppose.

Ha i don't know if you're vibing to the groove or repulsed by the vocal.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 12:02 (twelve years ago)
i was kinda mad at Q for making me accept that Pastille track tbh
― rock nobster (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 29 January 2014 12:21 (twelve years ago)
U Know & The Drill - Stackin PapersBastille - Of The Night (Kove Remix)Danny Phillips - Now Or Never
kinda gotta look at it like little kaleidoscopic appetiser plates imo... thuggy bass undertone values overwhelmed by explosive lurid typhoon of vulgar abandon laced with (ordinarily mollifying, now oddly astringent) prissy classical todd repro. omit any single one of those components and it's just not the same michelin star dialectic tastebud trip
(nb "we rearrange, we destrange", is that an old shantie lyric?)

Virgo - Down Diggy (DJ Q Edit)Kozzie - Destruction Remix (Accapella)Disclosure - Voices (Wookie Remix)PVC - She Can Get It
as mt says, putting genteel 'voices' in amongst these lairy numbers is sooooo gooooood. narky grimelad chuntering thru to airy "i hear voices in my head... you bring out the darkest side of me" thru to MAN I SWEAR THAT SHE CAN GET IT, pure narratives
Disclosure - Stimulation (Preditah Remix)Tom Shorterz - Why
amazing transition, carefree frolic abruptly finds the most queasily sorrowful note
Jhene Aiko - The Vapours (AC Slater Remix)Rachel K Collier - Predictions (Billon Remix)
love this, tentative "can i hit it again..." into swooshing showstopper finale of a tune, beat cuts out, "the deepest place in my mind" gliding on thermals. sick tune
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 13:34 (twelve years ago)
this is a really good album!
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 13:38 (twelve years ago)
"through the night" is amazing
that first section of the january set is too good, keep rewind to it.
― dbs, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 14:30 (twelve years ago)
To those of you who have the album already: do you hear anything different about the tracks previously released as singles?
― _Rudipherous_, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 19:28 (twelve years ago)
I find it impossible to write anything insightful about these mixes, but I've been listening to the panama bar set a lot this week, and the mixture of melancholy and euphoria seems really extraordinary to me - I want to group it with some DJ Sprinkles mixes, maybe, but mostly out of ignorance.
― toby, Thursday, 30 January 2014 10:50 (twelve years ago)
melancholy and euphoria is my standard night out
― Squidward Ka-Spel (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 30 January 2014 11:19 (twelve years ago)
DJ Q mixes/sets are among the only things that can reliably make me smile lately.
― _Rudipherous_, Friday, 31 January 2014 16:45 (twelve years ago)
My god the December mix is so good.
― Tim F, Saturday, 8 February 2014 01:39 (twelve years ago)
Both of course!

Vibing with a contorted expression of disgust.
― MikoMcha, Saturday, 8 February 2014 09:21 (twelve years ago)
That whole set is a really good example of what I'm talking about w/r/t the curious resurgence of bassy 2-step in Q's mixes.

I like Kaytranada but he seems to have been embraced by the most boring DJs around my parts.
― raggett neds of your summer dress (The Reverend), Thursday, 13 February 2014 02:07 (twelve years ago)
been listening to nothing but these MOS radio sets for the past week and now all other music feels lethargic
― tpp, Thursday, 13 February 2014 18:02 (twelve years ago)
So, if I like DJ Q and I like a lot a high percentage of stuff on the UK bubblers threads, what would be some good, related, earlier dance music to check out? Please recommend compilations, albums, DJ sets, mixes, etc. I'm especially interested in 90s UK garage, which I know nothing about. (Not interested in jungle, but that would not be the obvious direction to take this anyway.)
Like maybe up to 12 (LP length) recommendations?

Thanks, I was going to ask about 2-step recommendations. I started listening to Sound of the Pirates and mostly like it so far. (I've gotten sidetracked by Arabic music at the moment, but will come back to all of this shortly.)
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 15 February 2014 02:59 (twelve years ago)
OK back to Zed Bias just in time for some "eastern" sounding vocals. I'm kind of bemused by how thoroughly I missed all of this. I really like this thread of dance music way way more than most of the mega genre.
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 15 February 2014 04:15 (twelve years ago)
This is great.
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 15 February 2014 04:19 (twelve years ago)
I don't know, "UK garage" and "2-step" just never sounded very inviting and didn't give anything away, to me, about what they sounded like (not that most genre labels really do I suppose).
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 15 February 2014 04:21 (twelve years ago)

I bet there are millions of people who would like this song (and lots of other tracks here) if they heard it.
― _Rudipherous_, Saturday, 15 February 2014 06:14 (twelve years ago)
Kind of bizarre how separate U.S. and UK music manage to remain most of the time. I'm sure I could think up some good explanations and find even better ones (right here), but in the end it's kind of bizarre considering the lack of any significant language barrier.
