i have always disliked the word "ineffable" tbh. one of the first words i can remember disliking.

I am confident that the phrase "the ineffable..." will not be going viral any time soon.

Well it took nearly two years...

Tim F, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:46 (twelve years ago)

And 2.5 years from The Ineffable Beauty of Tropical 2.

Tim F, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:48 (twelve years ago)

Haven't listened to this, but I don't think it's been posted yet:

full effanineffable credit should rly go to ts eliot's visionary 1930s og interzone bubbler thesis the naming of cats imo

r|t|c, Thursday, 23 January 2014 09:44 (twelve years ago)

good lookin out toby, not certain if i saw that one myself

did people catch the "Boxing Night Special 2013 Panama Bar And Club Stoke On Trent" (the uk panorama bar i'm sure) promo mix he had on his soundcloud? it's kind of a slightly different angle on his usual like the dostracks one was - this time a more languorous disquisition on the troubled, anomic side of deep house, basically loads of vocal cuts orbiting the lodestar of nick hannam's 'love you girl'. deleted now but can re-up if need be

sorta hard to discuss these matters in general without rly knowing whether and to what extent u guys are into the singularly genius monthly mixes - like obv i am super hyped for the album (and most certainly not to harsh anyone's buzz) but it'll be a small shame if it's not seen and heard in complementary terms, if the gazebo's mistaken for the mansion

alright i had nothing better to do... tracklisted it for posterity as well

the way he intertwines the vocal samples in the transition between the second and third tracks - WALLSCOMETUMBLINGDOWNYEAH panickattack femme, "all around, all arounnnnd" glowering whisper homme - is so very extremely brilliant i could claw my eyes out so that i might only hear

r|t|c, Thursday, 23 January 2014 11:04 (twelve years ago)

(btw obv when i say "troubled, anomic side of deep house" that means a toe dipped into shuffle deep tech scene for those that know, hence rs4/ikin)

r|t|c, Thursday, 23 January 2014 11:13 (twelve years ago)

(a conceptual toe at least, biggest on the mental foot of course)

r|t|c, Thursday, 23 January 2014 11:15 (twelve years ago)

Awesome, thanks for that - will grab it later.

I haven't listened to the monthly mixes since August, because I'm lazy and was grabbing them from the essential garage blog, which has been dead since then. Have any of you been recording them??

toby, Thursday, 23 January 2014 11:59 (twelve years ago)

That is my story, though in my case it's more that I basically only listen to music while en route or at the gym now and the bbc app won't work in Australia.

Downloading these mixes now though.

Subject to hearing the album I agree with the gazebo vs house analogy though.

Tim F, Thursday, 23 January 2014 12:42 (twelve years ago)

mm yes well contrary to seeming pop belief i don't actually spend my days reclining on chaises longues either unforch (ok ok apart from today)... can just about find the space for 60 minutes of timeless splendour in a month though?

yknow uk gazebo wouldve been a pretty much parfait term for the black butter sphere the more i think about it

r|t|c, Thursday, 23 January 2014 13:43 (twelve years ago)

Well I think I did listen to October and November once each but these mixes are like sacred texts, they need to be studied carefully and reverently.

Benny B, Friday, 24 January 2014 02:35 (twelve years ago)

fgs will someone at mos radio please relieve rtc of his duties and start providing dl links?

Benny B, Friday, 24 January 2014 02:38 (twelve years ago)

I just (finally) learned how to record these (cumbersomely), so hopefully I can grab them in future, but thanks so much for this!

Panamabar show is getting my day off to a good start now.

toby, Friday, 24 January 2014 05:15 (twelve years ago)

Thanks for this new batch of DJ Q mixes. Listening to one right now, r|t|c

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 24 January 2014 05:17 (twelve years ago)

(Well, thanks to Q as well obviously.)

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 24 January 2014 05:17 (twelve years ago)

This little change at around 8:50 (during "Mind Reader") in the 9/12/2013 (British style) is the kind of thing that kills me in these mixes. I don't know how unique it is, but I love it and as soon as I heard it I thought about how good it would sound in the car. I think driving around with these mixes has had a lot to do with my absorbing them.

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 24 January 2014 06:52 (twelve years ago)

I don't know how unique it is

As in: I really literally don't know, not implying anything one way or another. Just to be clear. No other DJs I've checked out get that particular sound, but I'm obviously a noob.

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 24 January 2014 06:58 (twelve years ago)

rtc you are a prince

tbf not everyone likes Beyoncé you soulless douche (Noodle Vague), Friday, 24 January 2014 07:12 (twelve years ago)

Jeez, where to start with these sets?

U Know & The Drill - Stackin Papers

so tuff, and the moniker is almost as good as Trumpet & Badman.

i think maybe the only other uk garage dj to reach all-time/all-genre greatness is EZ, who is much more technically flashy but fuck it, Q surpassed him long ago.

Benny B, Friday, 24 January 2014 10:26 (twelve years ago)

O

M

G

rtc you're the greatest

Q not too shabby either ;)

experienced all of these sacred texts once or twice and all sounded fantastic, looking forward to spending more time with them! so many sick mixing moments, Virgo/Wookie "Voices" rmx transition - what a rush

"Stackin Papers" (coming out next week if i'm correct?) and Shorterz' Katy B remix are my tracks of the year so far btw

Mind Taker, Friday, 24 January 2014 10:50 (twelve years ago)

hey rtc

mr q wants to get in touch w you

can you drop me a line at tracerhand AT gmail please?

Drop Lamond's "Feeling High" (in the Boxing Night set) is one of those tunes that starts off seeming understated but turns out to be crazy and crazy good.

Tim F, Friday, 24 January 2014 20:42 (twelve years ago)

Love when these mixes go polyphonic.

_Rudipherous_, Saturday, 25 January 2014 03:20 (twelve years ago)

And it's an abstraction of an abstraction (music) or an extraction of an extraction. If music is a distilation of life, and then you distill that distillation? If someone gets that right (at least for a given listener--hello!), it's super potent. Rather than Plato's shadow of a shadow, it seems more like the essence of an essence. (Sorry if this is overboard. I'm prepared to blame a sudafed buzz if needed.)

Uhh....

Bastille - Of The Night (Kove Remix)

MikoMcha, Saturday, 25 January 2014 10:02 (twelve years ago)

just realized stardom for both Q music & rtc texts are my new year wish

moullet, Saturday, 25 January 2014 10:34 (twelve years ago)

Is it just my imagination or is there a higher quotient of bassy 2-step tunes with a 2001 vibe in the last couple of months' sets than was there previously?

Will need to isolate some particular tasty examples in service of my point here.

Tim F, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 02:53 (twelve years ago)

Like this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjJSCqkoNos

More of a 2000 than 2001 vibe I suppose.

Tim F, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 11:47 (twelve years ago)

Bastille - Of The Night (Kove Remix)

― MikoMcha, Saturday, January 25, 2014 10:02 AM (4 days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Ha i don't know if you're vibing to the groove or repulsed by the vocal.

Tim F, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 12:02 (twelve years ago)

i was kinda mad at Q for making me accept that Pastille track tbh

rock nobster (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 29 January 2014 12:21 (twelve years ago)

U Know & The Drill - Stackin Papers
Bastille - Of The Night (Kove Remix)
Danny Phillips - Now Or Never

kinda gotta look at it like little kaleidoscopic appetiser plates imo... thuggy bass undertone values overwhelmed by explosive lurid typhoon of vulgar abandon laced with (ordinarily mollifying, now oddly astringent) prissy classical todd repro. omit any single one of those components and it's just not the same michelin star dialectic tastebud trip

(nb "we rearrange, we destrange", is that an old shantie lyric?)

r|t|c, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 13:15 (twelve years ago)

Virgo - Down Diggy (DJ Q Edit)
Kozzie - Destruction Remix (Accapella)
Disclosure - Voices (Wookie Remix)
PVC - She Can Get It

as mt says, putting genteel 'voices' in amongst these lairy numbers is sooooo gooooood. narky grimelad chuntering thru to airy "i hear voices in my head... you bring out the darkest side of me" thru to MAN I SWEAR THAT SHE CAN GET IT, pure narratives

Disclosure - Stimulation (Preditah Remix)
Tom Shorterz - Why

amazing transition, carefree frolic abruptly finds the most queasily sorrowful note

Jhene Aiko - The Vapours (AC Slater Remix)
Rachel K Collier - Predictions (Billon Remix)

love this, tentative "can i hit it again..." into swooshing showstopper finale of a tune, beat cuts out, "the deepest place in my mind" gliding on thermals. sick tune

r|t|c, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 13:34 (twelve years ago)

this is a really good album!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 13:38 (twelve years ago)

"through the night" is amazing

lex pretend, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 13:38 (twelve years ago)

that first section of the january set is too good, keep rewind to it.
