without naming any names it's a nice change of pace from what had heretofore dominated philly's indie scene. but yeah, "why now...and why so much?" has been kicking around in my head too.

Tractor Sex Fatality were working this angle a couple years back, as documented on the excellent "Black Magic, White Pussy" LP, but they've streamlined their sound/membership since.

What about Todd? More ex-Hammerhead stuff that's right in line with the soundz of yore. Nowhere near as interesting/catchy as Vaz, but funier, and they arguably rock harder.

I'm kinda questioning the "pigfuck" nameplate, too. While I hear a lot of bands aping the sound of late 80s Midwest post-hardcore, I don't see the same kind of confrontationalist creativity. If there are pigs present, they aren't really getting properly fucked.

Also thinking: Was grunge just what they called pig fuck in Seattle in 1990?

grunge was what we called pigfuck in 86 - by 90 it was something else

in the 80s grunge was anything with dirty/heavy gtrs... kilslug, dinosaur's 1st album, scientists.

seattle grunge was pigfuck minus the filth, desperation, & degradation. they took the sound but dropped the demented arty flourishes, being generally more trad in their rock styling. tad and the thrown ups were the closest seattle got to pigfuck.

I guess it starts looking like splitting hairs and narcissism of small differences if you weren't there, but at the time these equations were pretty clear:

sub pop 100 = pigfuck
sub pop 200 = grunge

have you ever seen them (tinsel teeth) live, edward? i ask not only because of their singer is a dildo-wielding blood covered goth freakazoid but because they're one of those bands that really blew me away live but were painfully boring on record. i only heard their demo though, hopefully the album will be an improvement.

contenderizer was it you who posted about mayyors in the punk thread? i've been listening to dead ever since it was mentioned in there and i should probably thank whoever enlightened me to it cause it's been one of my most loved pieces of music all year. few times a month i get on a kick where all i want to listen to is this and endless blockade. have they released anything else?

Y'all should check out The Family Curse. They moved to Seattle from SF about a year back.

Basically sounds like Big Black only with a gorgeous amazon lead singer lady.

Hmm, so apparently, the guitarist (and recording engineer) of the Mayyors was also the guitarist and recording maestro of the FM Knives? The bands don't seem very similar on the surface.

I haven't seen Mayyors yet. But people have been screaming in my ear about them for the last year.

I finally lifted a finger to figure it out and realized that my old buddy John Pritchard is their singer. Used to gig with his old bands Sexy Prison and Corpse Fuck Corpse quite a bit down in Sacramento/Davis area.

hells nor did i know of sexy prison connect - another great band and with a sound that makes a good deal of sense in relation to mayyorses

endless blockade is neither noise rock nor pigfuck-it's powerviolence! if you're into that sort of thing i recommend it highly, if not check it out and it might change your mind. gives me that same feeling as mayyors like i'm chewing through a leather jacket.

in the interview for my college radio show, they asked my friend and i what we intended on playing. they had never heard of boredoms or any of the other bands we named so i just started listing genres, and dude interrupted me after a split second of recognition, just after i had said the word pigfuck. "wait, what the fuck are you talking about?"
