Hipster interest in rap is very on the wain now tho, thankfully. And I can enjoy my Devin album in peace without some glo-worm in a My Little Pony t-shirt and a "Yo! Willie!" Alf hat telling me how "crazy" it is.
The less I think about 2005, the better.

Pitchfork gave it an 8.7
by my logic that anything over 8.4 on pitchfork must be a good album, this must be quite a good album.
i therefore bought it.
i must say, the first 6 songs are wonderful, but it does trail off towards the end.
Now way a 4 (that is fucking ridiculous) and it makes me quite sad that someone would let it be a 4 at Drowned in Sound.
very biased. Shame people can't just put their preconcieved opinions behind them, and listen to the album.
it is actually pretty good, though it is obviously no petsounds etc etc etc whatever.

and i STILL can't tell the difference between the album version and the single version. what kanye doesn't realize is that the snare is what's wrong with "stronger" more than the kick, but the first step in fixing his shitty drums is admitting he has a problem, i guess.

kanye's mom died: http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Music/11/11/obit.west.ap/index.html
this seems like a surprise, since i thought she was kind of young. anyway, this is really sad since it was obvious that they were really close. thoughts are w/ kanye.
on a purely selfish level (i hope this isn't too soon), it will be very interesting to see where this takes him musically.

Imdb says Kanye was in London and flew back immediately, cancelling all engagements.
Donda West died Saturday night in Los Angeles, said the spokesman, who asked for anonymity because not all family members had been notified.
The logic of this "spokesman" is baffling and disgusting ("I'm going to the media but I don't want people to know I'm the reason family members are hearing about it on cnn.com first"). Is this the kind of story that needs to break asap?

West died Saturday night at 8:29 p.m., Corral said.
Cindy Woelfle with Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina Del Rey told CNN that paramedics brought Donda West to the emergency room Saturday evening. Attempts were made to revive her, but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead before 9 p.m.
Woelfle said the procedure West had undergone did not take place at the hospital where she died.

people die at the dentist having their teeth taken out. anaesthesia isn't without risks, which is why you sign a release every time you go under.

A coroner's spokesman said an autopsy would be performed later this week. He did not know what sort of surgery West underwent, but media reports said she had a breast reduction and abdominoplasty, a major procedure commonly referred to as a "tummy tuck."
The celebrity news Web site TMZ.com quoted a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Jan Adams, as saying he performed surgery on West before she died, that her death was unforeseen and he did nothing wrong.

"Kanye was doing beats for Bad Boy artists in '98, I don't think he needed to "catch up" with what Puffy was doing back then."
making beats for bad boy in 98 = not the same as doing bad boy videos in 98.
― titchyschneiderMk2, Saturday, 24 November 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link
don't know why you're dredging up that boring argument from 3 months ago now, but Gavin was saying that Kanye was trying to "catch up with the cool kids he was always too nerdy to hang with" re: Puffy-type videos, which makes no sense because Kanye was active in the late 90's pop rap scene as a producer years he molded his public image as the Y2K answer to Tribe. dude idolized Puffy and Mase!

he idolised puffy and mase but he also idolised native tongues cos he was a geekazoid. i cant imagine he had that huge a part in all the big balling that all the bad boy artists were involved in. he wasnt exactly one of the hitmen was he? he was just a small time producer back then.
