wow. hm. stupid question, but since i actually might be interested in hearing this interview -- anyone know if that channel/program available streaming online? since i'm EST, it will probably air in the dead-of-night.

"critically overindulged one-trick pony"

I'd only vaguely heard of Burial before hearing it for the first time by accident, around the time of Untrue. But I can attest that if I'd heard all the talking about Burial before hearing the music I'd probably see him as overindulged too.

I've barely kept up with the writing about Burial since those days – am I right in thinking he's become a 'breakout artist' kind of, like how Aphex Twin finds his way into playlists and record collections and conversations that peers of Aphex wouldn't get into?

Don't think one-trick pony works though, too many different things going on across the records. It might all take place in a broken mirror but you get different pictures floating across it.

Don't know why anyone would moan about a musician doing variances on a theme, especially in light of Rival Dealer.

Yeah pretty much. He's got some hype in the broadsheets in the UK which has exposed him to middle-aged types who normally wouldn't listen to underground electronic stuff, eg my parents

Someone tweeted just that link and first couple of lines I thought it would be a dramatic 'I'm retiring' kind of thing

abcfsk, Friday, 31 January 2014 15:48 (twelve years ago)

Hopefully by the end of most years I have done some tunes that are decent enough to release. but Dark Souls 2 is on the horizon soon so I'm not sure if I will have many new tunes for a while because I need to play that game a lot.

a++

Hope this means he'll be putting out "Feral Witchchild" and all the other BBC mix stuff Hyperdub never bothered to release full versions of.

Rival Dealer has officially sunk in and I know it was touched on briefly upthread, but. . .

. . .did he use this release as one big coming out party?

Can't think of a more glorious, life-affirming way to do it, if so.

Two friends who love Burial have both said this is his worst track. I wonder if he just gave a spare track to a buddy and thats why it's white label only on a different label.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 22 January 2015 19:35 (eleven years ago)

I like it, it's different again

Fucking excellent. Just such wonderful music.

Austin, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 07:38 (nine years ago)

From the moment the new single started it was instant chills. His style is so consistently good, warm and enveloping. "Paradise Circus (remix)" is one of the most harrowing songs ever.
