they were definitely a good live match for her. i believe she is dating one of them as well.

Oh no, that never ends well ...

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 15 December 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

Love hearing "Follow Your Arrow" on the radio almost every day. Love the kids singing along with it in the back seat. Makes me feel like I'm living the ending of some whimsical indie dramedy.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 18 December 2013 21:09 (twelve years ago)

do they edit out the smoke a joint line from the radio?

Mordy , Wednesday, 18 December 2013 21:14 (twelve years ago)

No, not on country music, at least. Surprisingly.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 18 December 2013 21:16 (twelve years ago)

they don't edit out talk of getting stoned on Johnny Cash songs, or Hank Jr songs (prolly a bunch of others too) so I wouldn't expect country radio to edit Kacey Musgraves either

Euler, Wednesday, 18 December 2013 21:26 (twelve years ago)

any guesses as to which would be the biggest vote-getter in 2013 polls, 'merry go round' or 'smoke' or 'arrow'?

j., Saturday, 21 December 2013 22:39 (twelve years ago)

last December I first heard "Merry Go Round" in the radio while driving through Nashville. today I heard on the same station again driving through, but this year the dj was effusive about her accomplishments this year. very cool year!

Euler, Saturday, 21 December 2013 22:53 (twelve years ago)

arrow was around longer and made the rounds on the awards show, so i'd guess that.

Strangers look on with a discernible, barely contained ‘wow’. (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 21 December 2013 23:02 (twelve years ago)

no, i think 'merry go round' was around longer - technically a 2012 single - and was nommed for awards etc., but 'arrow' is fresher, maybe more prone to attract votes?

j., Saturday, 21 December 2013 23:14 (twelve years ago)

my guess is that "blowin' smoke" will be mostly neglected, with "merry go 'round" and "follow your arrow" sharing the attention.

if we're talking pazz & jop, it's worth noting that "merry go 'round" already placed there last year (25th). i am guessing, since many didn't hear the song until she started getting lots of press in 2013 (i myself didn't hear the song until it was peaking at radio -- maybe january?), that it'll get votes this year as well. p&j does that thing where it includes a song's votes from the previous year if the number of new votes is great enough (i think at least ~half the previous total), so if that happens it could place again, presumably higher.

dyl, Sunday, 22 December 2013 00:35 (twelve years ago)

yes, that was my reason for wondering about the probable numbers

if only 'stupid' was a single, then i could vote my heart :/

i like this album!

surm, Saturday, 25 January 2014 23:13 (twelve years ago)

Which Carole King song did they do (assuming they did one)?

Also Bob Harris (Time Out founder/Old Grey Whistle Test Presenter) put 'Merry Go Round' on his Desert Island Discs this week, which was pretty cool.

Matt DC, Friday, 7 February 2014 10:34 (twelve years ago)

the article i saw says they covered the everly bros "crying in the rain". still doesn't seem to be any video out there alas...

The wife and I happened upon the Grammy performance of "Follow Your Arrow," and I just saw the CD on sale at Target for only $7.50 so we picked it up. I am one of those people who say "I hate country music but I love Johnny Cash" to the annoyance of many bu it's kind of true.

apparently at a recent show w/ lady antebellum she said "keep it to yourself" is being released as a new radio single: http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/music-review-lady-antebellum-and-kacey-musgraves-at-the-patriot-center/2014/02/23/90734364-9ca5-11e3-8112-52fdf646027b_story.html

happy about that bc it is my favorite on the album but also bc it probably means she is not being rushed to crank out a second album too soon

dyl, Monday, 24 February 2014 18:45 (twelve years ago)

i think it's just a great indication that the label is being supportive of an album that has not really been a blockbuster. probably all that airtime on The Grammys helped them decide to release a 4th single.

MISTERSNRUB (some dude), Monday, 24 February 2014 18:55 (twelve years ago)

Some Lady A fans may be getting to the gigs early and discovering her via the live show too

curmudgeon, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 16:36 (twelve years ago)

Now she's gonna go out on tour with Willie Nelson and Alison Krauss...Getting her name out to their audiences instead

Nice. Any new material?

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 6 July 2014 22:10 (eleven years ago)

yeah, a couple of new ones, one was a charming song about weed and another was a charming kinda-rewrite of "follow your arrow"

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 22:33 (eleven years ago)

she said she hasn't had time to write much and apologised for playing same trailer songs but she's going back in the studio in the autumn

lex pretend, Sunday, 6 July 2014 22:33 (eleven years ago)

sounds like a familiar story: second album harder to write b/c artist on the road.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 6 July 2014 22:45 (eleven years ago)

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 21 September 2014 02:33 (eleven years ago)

Charming as ever last night. Three new-ish songs - "Biscuits," "High Time" and "Cup of Tea," each very much in the vein of her other stuff. Bunch of great covers, including Dolly's "Here You Come Again" and TLC's "No Scrubs." Cool light up suits and boots. And cacti.
