Has there been anything like 40 Watt Sun released this year? It was my ultimate discovery from the 2011 lists (I believe from SPIN) and the sole reason I keep scanning the EOY metal lists, hoping for something remotely like that record.― ArchCarrier
Pallbearer's album last year maybe. Metal Archives also lists Warning, The River, Summit, The Human Condition, SubRosa and Woods of Ypres as "similar artists" but probably you just have to wait for another 40 Watt Sun album.
― Fastnbulbous, Friday, 6 December 2013 16:41 (twelve years ago)
Warning was Pat's band before 40 Watt Sun and were fucking amazing. Esp Watching From a Distance
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Friday, 6 December 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)
haha i like 'blurred lines' but i will always have time for rob sheffield on the warpath, esp since he always takes out some other targets on the way. maybe my fave piece from the chuck eddy crony era of the village voice: http://www.villagevoice.com/2003-12-30/music/nobody-can-touch-him/

However if you just mean as good as but different doom related, I'd say the SubRosa, In Solitude, Seidr, Jex Thoth, Brimstone Coven, Mountain Witch, Black Capricorn, Avatarium, Obelyskkh, Argus and Magic Circle.

i know everyone hates idolator still (and websites that are narrowly focused on this brand of pop) but here it is anyway
Idolator: 2013's Best Albums

― the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 December 2013 21:28 (twelve years ago)
I don't hate that list at all (except for Lorde, perhaps). nu-Idolator still makes me bitter, though.

― marcos, Friday, 6 December 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)
We may hate Idolator since the revamp (honestly had forgotten that they existed until just now) but aren't we all about this brand of pop?
And 3 of these records are definitely list-bound for me, and I haven't even had time to listen to Matangi yet.
― a fifth of misty beethoven (cryptosicko), Friday, 6 December 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)
is that idolator list so much about a genre as just, like, the mainstream? selena gomez is an odd one to rep for. and yeah people hate nu-idolator because of its idiocy not because of its taste
