I once got in a lift with Alexa Chung.

That's the extent of the story really.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 17:26 (twelve years ago)

I've never met Alexa Chung.

We move in very different circles, really.

I watched that 24 Hour Catwalk show on Lifetime that Alexa Chung was a guest on. #alexachungstories

By guest, I mean judge. We are all judged by the accuracies on our #alexachungstories.

Are they still selling anything produced or influenced by Phil Spector as well?

StanM, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)

Somehow mere murder pales besides this guy's crimes

Gary Glitter's second album is a different beast from the retro-oriented Glitter: this time the material is predominately original and many of the tunes have a harder, funkier edge to them (example: "Come on, Come in, Get On" has enough distortion on it to qualify as heavy metal). The album's best songs are the ones that became big pop-chart hits in England: "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)" is a surprisingly lusty mid-tempo slice of glam that was later successfully covered by Joan Jett and "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again" combines a double-time beat with call and response vocal performance to create a truly infectious single. The album also features one of Glitter's best non-single tracks in "Sidewalk Sinner," a cult favorite that speeds up Glitter's traditional glam beat and adds some surprisingly funky rhythms into the mix. The problem with Touch Me is that the remainder of the album tracks aren't quite as solid as these highlights.

Hello, Hello I'm Back Again! 3:20 $0.99
Sidewalk Sinner 2:32 $0.99
Didn't I Do It Right 3:21 $0.99
Lonely Boy 3:30 $0.99
Hold On to What You Got 3:16 $0.99
I.O.U. 3:08 $0.99
Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah!)3:18 $0.99
Come On, Come In, Get On 2:32 $0.99
Happy Birthday 2:58 $0.99
Hard On Me 2:17 $0.99
To Know You Is to Love You 2:51 $0.99
Money Honey 3:03 $0.99
I Would If I Could But I Can't 2:50 $0.99
Always Yours 3:25 $0.99
I'm Right, You're Wrong, I Win 2:40 $0.99
Oh Yes! You're Beautiful 3:50 $0.99
Thank You Baby for Myself 3:42 $0.99

It is much better than his first album, that's true

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 17:56 (twelve years ago)

It is much better than his first album, that's true

In 2002 I started a thread called Gary Glitter on the Radio in which I wondered how badly Paul McCartney for example would have to behave before people stopped listening to The Beatles, but I don't think I put the question very well so it didn't go anywhere.

Anyway, I notice you revived it some time last year to say good things about that album!

Eyeball Kicks, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)

I have oft mentioned that "Happy Birthday" song.

Basically, he's in bed with a 15 yr old girl, waiting for midnight to pass and she becomes 16

From NME.com

In February, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) launched an investigation into whether South Wales Police acted quickly enough after being tipped off about Watkins. In a new statement issued to NME today (November 27), the IPCC has given more details about the nature of the investigation, revealing that the case is centred around the actions of one officer, who is also being investigated in another case where it is alleged that he failed to act on an allegation that a 15-year-old girl had been raped.

The statement reads: "The IPCC investigation into whether or not South Wales Police failed to take appropriate and timely action in relation to information they were in receipt of in advance of Mr Watkins' subsequent arrest is ongoing. We are considering matters dating back to 2008.

"At this stage the investigation is focused on the actions of one officer, a detective sergeant who is also being investigated in another case where it is alleged he failed to act on an allegation that a 15-year-old girl had been raped. That remains ongoing.

"The detective sergeant has been served with gross misconduct notices advising him that his conduct is subject to investigation."

The mid-period Lostprophets drummer appears to be much in demand as a musician:

Peaches Geldof is in the shit for tweeting the names of his co-defendants so I'm glad that I redacted them on here after all. Not that DL on ILX is quite as significant as Geldof on Twitter but still.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 28 November 2013 17:11 (twelve years ago)

and will the the court's own Twitter feed be facing similar charges?

PaulTMA, Thursday, 28 November 2013 20:42 (twelve years ago)

thank fuck we live in an age where the internet can prevent abuse victims from trying to enfore their anonymity in the media

Perpetrators/victims what difference anyway eh

deems the whole point is to preserve the anonymity of the child victims not the subhuman trash themselves

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:11 (twelve years ago)

there's a chance that these children will be growing up from a very young age in foster care under new identities, so maybe this whole bit is theoretical? again i'm not saying that to excuse anyone's actions but maybe the consequences of the leaked names won't be as disastrous as they potentially could be. obviously entering the realm of deep hypothesis here

exciting vampire castle (NickB), Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:12 (twelve years ago)

yeah but fostered kids and adoptees often look up their birth parents

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:17 (twelve years ago)

oh sure, but at least they might grow up in an environment where other people don't know who they are

exciting vampire castle (NickB), Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)

something that would be more likely to happen if people could resist the vicarious thrill of identifying them in public space now

Noodle of the Vague family (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:23 (twelve years ago)

It's massively gone tits up, one of the women's twitter was still online until last night with her kid's given name all over it

the police and other legal authorities in this country are still absolute ignorant fuckwits when it comes to the internet

Not only assuming kid is already with another set of parents but fervently hoping so.

30 ch'lopping days left to umas (darraghmac), Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:32 (twelve years ago)

there was a horrifying and highly-publicised rape and murder case here a couple of years ago and the other day, during a talk at a fundraiser, a senior cop showed the crowd a photo of the victim's semi-naked body just after it had been uncovered in a shallow grave.

estela, Thursday, 28 November 2013 21:37 (twelve years ago)

Lostprophets' tour manager: How can anyone forgive sick peadophile Ian Watkins?

Tbf, the tour manager didn't do the mis-spelling..

Also, spot on what he said.

Mark G, Friday, 29 November 2013 11:40 (twelve years ago)

I'm really surprised that nobody has made mention of the fact that one of the last bands to support Lostprophets before Watkins was arrested were the very young all-girl band Cherri Bomb, whose guitarist would have only been about 15 or something at the time. Christ, if only they'd known eh?

http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/nov/29/lostprophets-removed-hmv-ian-watkins

HMV's decision reflects the gravity of Watkins' crimes. It is unusual for a major retailer to entirely remove an artist's catalogue, even after a major conviction: HMV continue to sell records by Gary Glitter, Burzum and Charles Manson.

suspect "HMV's decision reflects their interest in sidestepping flaming-torch Twitter campaigns for the sake of a band who no-one is going to buy albums by anyway" might be more accurate

theres also the possible need to avert a ratm style xmas chart entry SCANDAL where all 2396 tru believer lostprophet fans alongside some bantz kids get them into the top 75

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Friday, 29 November 2013 12:54 (twelve years ago)

They'll just have to settle for Gary Glitter's 'Rock'N'Roll parts 1 & 2' instead then.
