I thought she was levitating in that pic, at first.

Terrible cover.

Simon H., Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

Ugh, plus I just noticed that the leaves partially obscure the letters in her name. Yuck.

Simon H., Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

this chick in a complete nimrod

chaki, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

If you messed w/the color of the picture in photoshop, it would be a perfect Belle & Sebastian cover.

C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

xp
You could never imagine an album cover with Scarlett Johansson that ugly.

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

Why didn't she record an album of Mansun covers?

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

It looks like one of those cuet young classical virtuoso albums.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

Somebody else listen to this and tell me how awful it is. I kinda like Scar-Jo but seriously Tom Waits' songs? You fucking bitch.

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

Imagine if she did a Fishbone covers set...

C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

she should do "babyhead"

chaki, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

I was hoping she'd do a Tim Dog covers album.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 27 March 2008 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

hahah. mansun covers.

Charlie Howard, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, I might be down with a Scar-Jo "Warmth of Your Breath".

nickalicious, Thursday, 27 March 2008 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

I actually kind of like the song that was posted from pitchfork. Does that make me a bad person? Its really dreamy and she can't sing but it almost doesn't matter.

jonathan - stl, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

I can't help but compare her to Chloë Sevigny, who has real taste.

B'wana Beast, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 06:53 (eighteen years ago)

except in penis

electricsound, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

Ohhh nooo I thought this was a joke.

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

i have not heard this, but it really must be terrible

John Justen, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 07:43 (eighteen years ago)

I kind of like some of what I've heard so far. I'm actually looking forward to hearing the whole album.

al.b, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

"i have not heard this, but it really must be terrible"

ILM in a nutshell.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

you sound like the kind of guy who drinks spoiled milk after smelling it, just to make sure.

Zeno, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

I listened to youtube clips of her songs. Her voice is great. But you'd rather just assume it's awful, ignore the easy links to the music, and post snarky comments.

ILM in a nutshell.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

stfu

omar little, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

Just got offered a promo of this. Not sure what I think of the project, but I'm definitely willing to give it a shot for free.

Telephone thing, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

could be good

omar little, Tuesday, 22 April 2008 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

what?

RabiesAngentleman, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

"anywhere i lay me head" (the track) is quite ok.
she is not the best singer in the world,so it's good sitek buried her voice in the mix, but it has nice melancholic atmosphere with the production.
not that im going to listen to it again, but u might say sitek saved her here.

Zeno, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

two months pass...

sorry to be bumping this but I just heard her cover of Boys Don't Cry and its possibly the worst thing I've ever heard

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 20 July 2008 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

I'm really into this album, but maybe because I quite dislike Tom Waits and I like JAMC.

I know, right?, Sunday, 20 July 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

I dunno, it's produced well enough but her vocal performances are pretty lackluster

Hurting 2, Sunday, 20 July 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

Guys I have to admit, this is pretty fucking good for a covers album.

stephen, Saturday, 9 August 2008 06:16 (seventeen years ago)

The liner notes with Sitek comparing the atmosphere to an old 4AD record are, surprisingly, spot on.

stephen, Saturday, 9 August 2008 06:20 (seventeen years ago)

Dare I say...

This album > Return to Cookie Mountain

stephen, Saturday, 9 August 2008 06:24 (seventeen years ago)

you could add a few more of these:>>>>>>>>>>>

WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT BACON CARAMEL? MOST IMPORTANT BIT OF THIS THREAD!!!

Seriously this album is good good good. I think the arrangements are muggier and more natural than 4AD. Which I like.

I know, right?, Sunday, 17 August 2008 13:45 (seventeen years ago)

Like, it's not as ethereal as the Cocteau Twins, it's not as wispy and echoey.

I know, right?, Sunday, 17 August 2008 13:46 (seventeen years ago)

I like how plainsung it is too, title song is kind of beautiful and the relationship between her voice and that snare/handclap, the way her vocals are just limp enough to drape over the occasional jolt in the arrangement.

I know, right?, Sunday, 17 August 2008 13:47 (seventeen years ago)

I concur, this is much better than I expected. Sitek did it up right.

And no, you may not dare

Cookie Mountain>>>this record.

three months pass...

This album is so addictive.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

I love the hivemind mentality that dead, tuneless singing is totes awes when it's on an Italians Do It Better 12" by Farah, but an affront to music when it's from OMG FAMOUS ACTRESS

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 16:42 (seventeen years ago)

right.

anyway it didn't sound dead and tuneless to me, more alive and purposeful.

i need to hear this in full though.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 16:51 (seventeen years ago)

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

This thread really has something for everyone

i’m still stanning (morrisp), Sunday, 13 May 2018 22:29 (eight years ago)

agree it's a mixed bag, not a great album in any traditional sense

but like Lulu I think ultimately it succeeds as a weird but also weirdly moving, weirdly awesome album

niels, Monday, 14 May 2018 06:05 (eight years ago)

there are much worse Scarlett Johansson threads on this board

niels, Monday, 14 May 2018 06:06 (eight years ago)

"Falling Down" is good. I feel like she should be collaborating with Italians Do It Better folks instead of Pete Yawn
