I listened to youtube clips of her songs. Her voice is great. But you'd rather just assume it's awful, ignore the easy links to the music, and post snarky comments.

"anywhere i lay me head" (the track) is quite ok.
she is not the best singer in the world,so it's good sitek buried her voice in the mix, but it has nice melancholic atmosphere with the production.
not that im going to listen to it again,but u might say sitek saved her here.

sorry to be bumping this but I just heard her cover of Boys Don't Cry and its possibly the worst thing I've ever heard

I'm really into this album, but maybe because I quite dislike Tom Waits and I like JAMC.

I dunno, it's produced well enough but her vocal performances are pretty lackluster

Guys I have to admit, this is pretty fucking good for a covers album.

The liner notes with Sitek comparing the atmosphere to an old 4AD record are, surprisingly, spot on.

Seriously this album is good good good. I think the arrangements are muggier and more natural than 4AD. Which I like.

Like, it's not as ethereal as the Cocteau Twins, it's not as wispy and echoey.

I like how plainsung it is too, title song is kind of beautiful and the relationship between her voice and that snare/handclap, the way her vocals are just limp enough to drape over the occasional jolt in the arrangement.

I concur, this is much better than I expected. Sitek did it up right.

I love the hivemind mentality that dead, tuneless singing is totes awes when it's on an Italians Do It Better 12" by Farah, but an affront to music when it's from OMG FAMOUS ACTRESS

agree it's a mixed bag, not a great album in any traditional sense

but like Lulu I think ultimately it succeeds as a weird but also weirdly moving, weirdly awesome album
