Goddamn you, Dan, tell the fucking story!

New Kids trivia:

Q: Which New Kid's voice changed in the middle of a concert?!?!

A: Joey!!

At least, that's what my sister always told me, when she was a superfan and I was the little brother.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 01:09 (nineteen years ago)

The only NKOTB track that wasn't a total dud was "Tonight", which is actually a great "Sgt. Pepper" era Beatles pastiche.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

I remember the issue of Mad magazine that skewered New Kids in a bunch of articles. Mainly some line about how selling 10 million records is less a sign of their popularity, and more a sign of 10 million idiots with $15 less in their pockets.

Also, there was a fold-in which asked What Group Is More Popular Than The Beatles? and it folded into a spotlight on an empty stage and read "No One."

FACE!

I was just listening to "Didn't I Blow Your Mind (This Time)" and the only thing that blew my mind is how crappy the production is! The intro sounds like fucking Nintendo music, or a MIDI or some shit.

It's a good song, though. It's been a real karaoke classic for me more than once!

Bulgakov never supported the regime, and mocked it in many of his works. Therefore, most of them were consigned to his desk drawer for several decades. In 1930 he wrote a letter to Stalin requesting permission to emigrate if the Soviet Union could not find use for him as a satirist and received a personal phone call from Stalin himself, denying him that. Stalin had enjoyed Bulgakov's work, The Days of the Turbins and found work for him at a small Moscow theatre, and then the Moscow Art Theatre. In his autobiography and in many biographies, it is stated that Bulgakov wrote the letter out of desperation and mental anguish, never actually intending to post it. The refusal of the authorities to let him work in the theatre and his desire to see his family living abroad, whom he had not seen for many years, led him to seek drastic measures. Despite his new work, the projects he worked on at the theatre were unsuccessful and he was stressed and unhappy. He also worked briefly at the Bolshoi Theatre as a librettist, but left after his works were not produced.

Bulgakov died from an inherited kidney disorder in 1940 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.

i used to loathe this group but i heard "please don't go girl" again recently and thought it was sweet. in the video you can see that little joey is putting over his vocal 100% earnestly like he's really got it bad for the chick it's about, and the older new kids are all "haha can you believe we get paid to sing this garbage, when does shooting wrap so we can go back to the hotel and 'meet our fans'?"

Tiffany apologizes for outing Jonathan Knight

Eighties singing sensation Tiffany is apologizing to former flame Jonathan Knight after seemingly outing him during a recent TV appearance.

While promoting her upcoming SyFy movie "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid" on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" last Friday, Tiffany, 39, admitted that she and Knight dated back in their heyday.

"He's fabulous. But he became gay later," she said before jokingly adding that she wasn't sure if she had a hand in "switching" his sexuality.

“I had issues with that! I was thinking maybe I did," she said. "But no, now looking back when we were dating, he was so much fun — we used to do facials together, he was so easy to talk to.”

Though Tiffany seemed casual about her whole "Watch What Happens Live" conversation, she changed her tune the next day when Knight, who has never publicly acknowledged his sexuality, tweeted about the incident.

"I'm so devastated," he wrote. "How can I not remember getting facials???????"

While promoting her upcoming SyFy movie "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid"

I watched 10 minutes of this over the weekend, horrible even by SyFy original movie standards. Had no idea until just now that it was Tiffany and Debbie Gibson in the scratching cat fight. Gibson looks AWFUL now, like a thinner, more coked out version of Katie Morgan.

on the plus side, Mickey Dolenz got eaten by a giant snake

agree that Debbie Gibson looked like some sort of decrepit horse-mummy

Haha, yeah, I did forget to mention Mickey Dolenz getting eaten. Tbh though, I almost missed him getting eaten just because I was loling so hard at him playing himself in the movie.

The story isn't actually that exciting!

During my wife's freshman year, she dated a dude who went to HS with NKOTB and tried to flex his VIP cred by taking her out to a nightclub where they were hanging out and introducing her to them. Unfortunately this was pre-The Right Stuff and she had no idea who they were, so when dude was all "they're SINGERS" she said "so? I am too" and proceed to talk about placing third at the Mid-South Fair and being courted by Juilliard.

(This is the same woman who dumped Anfernee Hardaway in high school; lady is difficult to impress.)
